Not at all, though you might still want to make a normal map to amplify some detail. But that would be easy to do, simply make your texture and then use the Nvidia Normal Map plugin for Photoshop on it. I've gotten some pretty decent maps out of it in the past.
Is it really neccasery to sculpt a high poly model if you prefer spending your time on drawing the texture details yourself?
If you don't have access to a sculpting program, though Blender and Sculptris are free, then what Rowinish said is a decent option. Just my opinion but a good quality sculpt will give you a much better result than a generated normal map any day, at least with organic objects. If you aren't very good at sculpting well thats another issue to tackle
Finally got my Bounty Hunter taunt ready for submission. Hope people enjoy it!
Let me know if theres a specific character you would like to see have a taunt! Or just say Hi
Hey guys, Quick noob question. How do you guys create those epic preview pics with the heroes equiped with your items. I'm reading this thread from the start and I'm learning a crapload of useful info but I've only reached page 112 so far.

Kraken- Great courier! Love the textures. Taumich - the set looks nice ^^ but be careful with the thumbnails and presentation. The background and effects are so noisy that are taking away the focus from the items.
Working on a new set for Mirana...hopefully I'll not be beaten up for making her hair blue.
Stunning work, Zaphk!
I'm working on a mask for Disruptor. Still very wip, I feel there is something missing...
C&C are veeeery welcome!
I got permission to post the sculpt of this guy, he's part of a set I worked on with Danidem a while back for Lycan in Dota2. He has been working on all the promotional material between his other projects, I can't wait till it gets put on the shop!

Awesome design Snow. Though, where is the sharp edge? Also, blade feels short.
In other news, I think I have made considerable, but slow, progress with my hair sculpting. I urge you to look at the hair and provide some critique that can help me make it better.
I still have ways to go in terms of refinement, but I think I am getting there.

The vertical edge is the sharp edge. Yeah, the blade might be a bit short, can fix that after baking though, thankfully. The blade looks shorter because the face hilt thing takes up so much space, shall need to play around with those proportions.
And the hair's looking good! I think the definition of everything past the hairtie looks pretty good, the ponytail however needs a bit more definition, and I guess just overall you could polish it up a bit and tighten some of the shapes.
Guys, i wona know what you think, one my partner with what i have a good relations, today ban me in friend, my other friend add him and ask why he did it, and he answer that i so bad creator, and i done so bad from his concept item for Sky man, and he say that my sculpt are so bad. Guys i wona ask you, what bad i did? realy i so bad done that item from concept? I had only 350 tris for made it, i done it so bad?

>No pictures of the actual sculpt.
>LOD 0 is 500 tris
Something tells me he had to do a lot more texture work that he should've.
I'm also going to use that quote as a copypasta, that language is hilarious.
I think the item looks fine. Sculpt is good enough. Textures look okay in game (some of the gold is a bit dark, but passable).
I don't know what his problem actually is, but claiming the item is shit is going a bit far and is probably an excuse for something else.

I just submitted my first set! Take a look.

P.S. Or in the case you're using gimp...

ThinkKlinck - Well done! Nice colors
squall787 - Nice work, looks great!
Quick cross-post from the monthly competition thread. I made some QOP hair:
Is there a tutorial out there by any chance?
It looks really good. How did you make him start at his default in-game pose though?
Feathered Torment by Vayne4800 and Stefco
Searched online for an image that best showed his idle pose. I assume it was made by this guy - http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=124501 - but i am not sure.
Basically its a rough guess off looking in game and online.
