Makkon: I have the same problem, it's hard to keep track of all the stuff you have to learn. Something that helps me at least is to think of the things I pick up as tools in a tool set, which I try to apply whenever something just doesnt "feel" right. Just trying to figure out exactly which tool is needed in a situation, is it adding ssao, bounce light, removing details, adding details, too much/little saturation, can angles/perspective be improved, etc. helps alot.
If you can't find any way to improve the image, but it still feels wrong, you just have to figure out what you need to add to your toolset. Might sound obvious to some but at least it took some time for me to get rid of my workflow where I just painted without looking at what I was working on as a puzzle which needed to be solved. Anyways, the faces are looking good! Really dig the lady with the yin yang face and ponytail.
edit: I hope I didn't sound too preachy or anything, I'm still trying to wrap my head around this myself.
Everyone is doing great, kaktuz that post apocalyptic dude is really bad ass
Thanks for the advice, Gnashed. You don't sound preachy, that's actually really good information. Never really thought of it like solving a puzzle, or if I'm at my wit's end it's because I need a new lense to look at it through.
It's a never-ending rollercoaster ride you can't get off, you know? There's parts where you're having exhilarating fun, and then there's parts where you're vomiting into the wind.
But seriously, thanks again.

levigilbert: Thanks! I like your brushwork, but it's a little bit tricky to read the scale. I'm assuming it's a well in the foreground, and a tree in the background. I'd suggest making the well a little bit higher in contrast, and adding a more defined ground plane beneath it, to really seperate it from the background.
Apart from all the technical stuff, a trick is to add human made stuff, or humans or animals so that viewers can easily recognize its scale and thus, the scale of the main subject you're making

A bit more than a month back I had the pleasure of working on a grand scale marketing artwork for the studio KnightMayor. They just announced their first title 'Mooncrest'. This artwork is supposed to distill the mood, style and feel of the game. I talked a bit about its creation in an interview held by KnightMayor with Maximilian Degen and me. You can find the interview and lots more information about the actual game here:
Makkon: Thanks! You can find it here: http://magnoren.tumblr.com/
Cool face/mask design! I like the mix between gold and turquoise, those colors work well together.
Mik2121: Nice studies, my only comment would be on the waterfall in the last one, the straight line breaks the otherwise believable landscape, for me at least. All the waterfalls I've ever seen are just gushing with water. I realize it's also a stylistic choice, and I'm just being nitpicky, but yeah.
Gnashed, thanks for the feedback. That's more than fair, even if I wanted to go with simpler shapes (didn't want to spend too much time making every corner more natural), I knew there was something bothering me about that one and it might be the waterfalls being too straight and clean. Thanks a lot for the feedback, really appreciated!
Hi there Everyone! I'm quite new here. Here's my Heroes of the Storm fanart I'm still working on. I see many great artists here, lots and lots of inspiration! It's my first post here, so.. Tell me what you think!
Simon: Freaking rad, dude! And congrats! That's some serious clout.
Gnashed: Man, everything you do is wonderful. Also glad that you like the design and the colors!
umta: Welcome to polycount! This shows a lot of potential, everything is looking pretty solid so far. The weakest part is the protoss guy in the upper right, the line quality and underpainting isn't as strong as the rest.
Makkon: Awesome shapes and silhouettes! That's something I want to get better at myself. Readability is king. Also, you are so right about the ups and downs as an artist, sometimes I feel as if I take one step forward, five back. Heh.
umta: Looking good so far, though I think it could be a little bit more dynamic and interesting if you made the female barbarian and Diablo main characters of the image, and pushed everyone else aside a little bit, and focus the light source on those two locked in an epic duel.
Great stuff everyone! And thank you guys for the kind comments!
I consider this one a failure sort of, but it was quite fun to do and I learned a lot!
PS. Im sorry but how can i post an image here??? I´m looking for about on forum... :( and please feel free to fix my english mistakes :poly122:
Gnashed, You sir are probably right:) the initial concept was everyone trying to get the gold from the chest in centre of all characters but as I went forward with this one it doesn't seem to fit at all. I got to ask, can I post here the more advanced work for advice? Or the final piece?
So this is the first art I've posted here. Ever. You guys are all so good it's both inspiring and intimidating, haha! Gotta start somewhere though, right?
This is a drawing I've been working on a little bit at a time - I couldn't find a portrait I liked for my D&D character so I decided to make one myself. Still very WIP so crits are welcome!
Kolibri, that expression is super cute and reads well. Her proportions are spot on, the foreshortening on her left arm (our right) is a little strange, and I'm not sure about the nose (that may be a species/character trait). But this is really solid.

BUT I do like how everything else is looking! Very interesting anatomy that reads from a distance.
Inspired heavily by Gimaldinov - one of my fav 2d artists

A color study using mainly blue and other cold tones. About 40 minutes per sketch.
I went through a bunch of color/texture iterations, and I think I landed on what I like. Now she needs a body.
Group shot with the other ladies. I'd like to get them all fleshed out, in time.
