I am actually not pursuing a career in 3d art, but rather aspiring to become a Level Designer. I spend most of my time working in UDK, Unity, or various Level editors making maps. With that said I love everything about 3d art and have enjoyed learning how to use 3ds max. I originally used max for blocking out my map ideas…
Hi everyone. I' m working on a stylized environment/level that I might eventually mess around with in Unity. I was inspired by a few open p2s games, namely Dragon Quest 8. Stylistically, I'm trying to create something that looks retro but is still stylized and aimed for ios and android machines. I'm not sure how much polys…
Hello, I recently joined Polycount to start a sketchbook and to get involved because I'm transferring out of a community college in a year with an AAS Information Systems degree, to pursue an a BA in studio art at a university. However, lately I've been worried about the direction I'm headed, because I don't have a…
I was recently approached from some guys in Poland who saw one of my environments and asked to use it in a game they're working on. They say they'll credit me in the game, of course. However, the game honestly looks pretty terrible; [ame=" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-XbkBAIhKs"]here's their intro.[/ame] So I feel I…
Come one, come all to the "The Just for Noobs Learning Challenge" The main point of the Challenge is to have more experienced members of Polycount teach a small group of less experienced members and help them in an objective based gourp of small mini challenges. Its been neglected abit and bit rushed because of my final year project taking up so much time this year. The pterodactyl character is based off a combination of…
I recently posted some of my space themed 3D art. So someone mentioned that my previous "spaceship" looked a bit phallic which he was right! Luckily it wasn't my design, I just modelled it based off SpaceX Falcon rocket. So after that I decided to try my hand at a more complicated spacecraft. Originally I was going to…
Hey PC. I'm in the process of trying to create a normal map for my floor piece to go in my sci fi UDK environment. I've tried rendering it using both xnormal and render to texture, and neither are really working and generally giving me some weird junk. I've unwrapped it a whole bunch of times but it keeps giving me this…
This is a staticmesh with one material applied to it. The material is a translucent type material. It uses vertex painting to tell the staticmesh that only the "skirt edges" should have DepthFade, but the rest of the staticmesh should be opaque. In the second picture, you can see that the material is not being rendered…
I just ran across Vertex Shading as an AO technique and I think im gonna give it a go in my new scene. Its 3am at the moment and I have looked on the wiki here and other places and taken in as much info as my eyes can process right now. One thing that confuses me is are vertex colours stored inside the mesh file itself or…
