Hey guys, The issue: Displacement map's negative floating point values are ignored when using the 'UV Tiling Mode / UDIM's' in Maya. After some research, it appears that this issue is specifically linked to how VRay handles (or fails to handle) the UV tiling mode when 32bit displacement maps are concerned. It should be…
Working in Maya LT 2018 (no wrap deformer, no Node editor) I've got a game character that must switch outfits and heads. Rather than have a separate mesh for each head attached to a body, I thought I might save some memory by rigging the "floating" head so match the body without a break in the seam. The only way that I…
I have this setup with 3 chains, one dynamic (driven by a follicle like in this script: http://67.23.4.94/downloads/%E5%B1%B1%E5%AF%A8%E7%89%88-cgtkdynchain-enhanced--2/topics ), one that is driven by a spline ik with clusters parented under some typical controllers, and the bind chain. I will set it up so I can switch…
sup polycount. Been working on this rhino brute for the last few days for my first 'serious' zbrush sculpt. Concept is essentially a rob liefeld minotaur; I loved the grotesqueness of that idea, lol. I've been studying my anatomy, trying to get it right from all angles, but I still know it needs some work, that's why I'm…
So my all time favourite show Supernatural wrapped up this week and i had an idea. With the staggering lack of models and Supernatural figures I wanted to do a piece of work to honour the show. My idea is very simple but incredibly complex at the same time. Basically Im aiming for 4 characters to be centred on a…
Hi guys :) My apologies if I don't explain this incredibly well, I'm still trying to wrap my own head around it. So I've been following a tutorial to create an elephant, and I've reached the Zremeshing area to even out my polys. So far I have created a duplicate of my elephant, used the 'ZRemesherGuide' tool around the…
Hey everyone! Posting about my senior thesis titled RoboLunky and my accompanying blog. I thought some people here may appreciate it. I draw a lot from a lifetime of playing video games, and I hope it comes through a bit in the art style of RoboLunky. I actually just got great news from Chris T Geehan, part of Hyperduck…
For an undergraduate class on environment art I have chosen a concept art from the upcoming game Dragon Age: Inquisition. I am extremely excited to work on this for two reasons: 1- i love the Dragon Age series, 2- this is my first big dive into all the workings of making an environment for a game. There are a lot of…
It's a native look-and-feel UI with a 3D viewport embedded ( which you can disable completely so no extra rendering time will be used in case you want to execute just the HM2NM tool, etc ). I changed the right-collapsible window by floating/docking windows though... in that way you can move the windows with more freedom or…
You don't have to do the chrome ball if you don't want to, the IBL node in mental ray accepts a ball shaped map or a cross shaped map. Spherical or angular in the IBL settings. Looking at a chrome ball will give you less information because the wrap around parts of the image will have less pixels in them so I'd recommend a…
