It's pretty small/cryptic right now, but it promises to expand. Would be awesome if it grows daily over the course of several weeks, we'll see. The performance is kinda rough right now, it's loading a lot of high res images/audio that it's not even using (yet).

Well, they basically took a bunch of concept art, chopped it up, animated bits and laid down an audio track. There's a few interactive elements, like rotating 3D models, exploring a discarded flight itinerary. You also listen to the protagonists journal and radio broadcasts from 'the authority'.

There's some wacky stuff hidden in there, a little more humor and color than you've seen out of id for a while. I hope they keep this going, could be a nice way to warm people up to the IP.

Yeah, in its current state, it's shit-crazy unoptimised. Anyone that's got Safari can load the site and watch the Activity Monitor to see tons of hi-res stuff that it's downloading that you can't even get to.

Hmmm, weird that I'm not having any problems loading the site, since my pc is rather old. Maybe cause I'm still on firefox 2.whatever?

It's looking cool, for a mystery-meat site. Can't stand that kinda crap, but it's iD's game, and I must admit, I'm a bit of a fanboy (not the rabid type that'll flip out whenever someone insults them, just the kind that really likes everything they've put out so far). Can't wait to see more of this game.

Oh shit, week 2 is up, and its confirmed my biggest fear...

id Software have a crazy clown area in the game... Jesus as if clowns arn't bad enough, its gonna be id Software clowns... This games gonna be amazing. Yes. Just because of how crazy that place looks...

This game is gonna make Fallout 3 look like a cake walk... But do we all float down there...?

Huh. I read the Game Informer article and I'm a little surprised - Rage sounds exactly like they added vehicles to Fallout 3. Not that I don't want to play it, but I thought there would be a mention of new twists or unique game mechanics. Maybe they're keeping certain goodies under wraps...

the first two pages are actually concept art (composited with a mutant model in the second page). First actual screenshot is the dude with the mohawk and bodypaint.

People are all sorts of worked up about the regenerating health and controllers- first design. Looks and sounds awesome to me though.

reminds me of this idea i once had for a racing game.
pick a car, outfit it with all sorts of weapons, add armour plating, improved engines and head off and race.

True, the last QCon trailer had way cooler characters. Even though these screens only show the generic mutant/sand people baddies, it's cool that they give them a lot of different faces.

There used to be a pen and paper game put out by Steve Jackson called 'Car Wars' that was just that, it was fun too. Had mutants and everything.

Why do I like this...?

Because the car racing sounds spot on for what Episode 1 Pod Racer did, which, and sod you all if you dont agree, was an AMAZING game in its day

Nothing beats putting on some fast tunes and racing THAT FAST with a maxed out pod...

Then you have a game like this, where its so detailed and huge... Its going to be amazing...

It may just be a top game of the year contender. It all depends. With gameplay time less than Doom 3, I dunno... I just hope there are a crazy number of side missions to go for... And that the achievments are really hard. Like, there are 1000 missions in the game, do them all, 10 points hard... Not something stupid like Fallout 3's

Oblivion had better chevo's, you had to do every major quest, was much better.

Still, its by id Software, it looks amazing, it sounds amazing and it looks to have some really amazing depth to it... How can it go wrong...?

Its an id software shooter that seems to have left behind all those old stupid feelings they had back when Doom 3 was around... Its like they woke up and saw people do want something different. Its gotta be interesting at the very least.

I'm still slightly stinging from that whole "We know what people want and nobody wants coop" in doom 3 thing... Silly out of touch days...

Is it just me... or are some of the recent screens losing its "punchy-ness". Still look absolutely gorgeous, and the terrain detail still blows me away, but I remember the older screenshots just having a more vibrant tone to it.

Still pumped though :P

idk, they look pretty much the same contrast/saturation wise

One thing to remember though is that most of the screens from way back where taken with crappy camera's/videocams, so some increase in saturation is expected

They can treat the entire enviroment as it were all painted - bake or manually add not just diffuse color but shadows and lighting and whatever, as all the UV layouts for it are unique (speculars are probably dynamic though).

Seems they have some character variation system going on as well, different pieces of clothing and heads and so on.

blackulaDZ, allow me to explain. you know how normally, you'd use many textures for a level? well, they just use one. this allows them to paint on every pixel using this texture, uniquely. at least, that's the general idea. and it's mega texture, unless you're being silly and knew all this, which you should have. /lashings
