Oh yeah, Paint Tool Sai is awesome, though I'd categorize it more as a concept, illustration, or painting app rather than as a Photoshop substitute. Unless of course you do a lot of hand painted textures, as I know you do.
Speaking of painting apps like Paint Tool Sai there's also:
One great place to watch for new painting apps is the Chrome Web Store. It seems like there are new ones popping up there all the time.
Another great utility to add to these programs is Lazy Nezumi which can add a ZBrush like lazy mouse function to pretty much any app. I've even used it in Mudbox. There's about it here. Sadly it's Windows only though.

I'd like to point out that Paint Tool Sai has a Lazy Nezumi feature, it's called the stabilizer. Increase it to a level, say 13, and the cursor lags behind while you're drawing.

Personally, freehand inking and sketching on SAI is great (those strokes!) and I depend a lot of my b/w work on it. I've yet to see the features that SAI offers in other painting apps. That's why I'm bit worried it'll become outdated in the future (with changing operating systems) since its development stalled long time ago (no one really knows what the guy is up to.)

"A whiteboarding application with real-time canvas sharing and chat. Collaborate and sketch simultaneously, build wireframes, draw html elements or share screenshots."
Everyone needs to check out a program called RescueTime. This has single handedly changed how productive and focused I am more than anything else combined. Well with the exception of caffeine
I've been using Google Drive for a while now. I have 3 computers I use for work in my home office, and it keeps it all in synch, while also backing it up on the cloud. So effectively, It gives me 4 separate backups for my work.
It's secure. Just make sure your password is complex.
its pretty cool to sort what kind of image you need. Eaxample:
I want to make a fir tree right now and need some good ref for the needle structure. So i searched for "fir branch" and it came up with long range shots of fir trees. I selected the only one with a white background and a few needles on a branch on top and searched for similar images.
Done.

Currently I use Google Drive to write documents and keep them available for me wherever I am, without having to remember to copy the files ect. GD have online editors for the files, such as documents, spreadsheet and so on. So you can edit them in your browser, without needing another program for it, which is quite handy.
You don't have to download to edit them, and you don't need to save all the time, it save as you edit the documents.
I have a new great tool - called TimelineFX
Its a tool to create nice particles..very easy to learn and very handy.
(Maybe something for the PolycountWiki)
Ben ... Maplet is REALLY old and extremely clunky. You're probably better off with something like UnrealEd (export to T3D) or Hammer (export to MAP) if you're looking for simple BSP editors.
Not sure if this has been posted before but here's a Photoshop CS6 (and cs5) extension that extends the functionality of the colour picker. You can combine two colours and generate a range from those two.
Another colour picker (might have been mentioned before though not free, it only costs $14)
And got a nice update today with a tone lock, seems pretty good gonna test it out more:
Thumbnail addon allows you to see tgs, psds, etc in windows as ico previews.
Nothing super new, but its made by the same guy that did XnView, and it allows you to set how big of files you want to preview.
So you can say limit it to only 5mb files or set it to 5gb files. There are other options like turning off or on various types of files to preview as well.
Cloud9 is something I have been using for a little while now, so I can transport code from home to work, without having version problems, - its basically a Google docs for coders, - it has a nice console and works pretty damned well.
Autodesk FBX Review - Free standalone program that allows the viewing of 3D models and animations with different shaders and lighting using DirectX 11.
This is seriously awesome guys. I was searching for a long for a simple, easy and lightweight Image Viewer for Windows with an "Always on Top" Function. That one is awesome.
Modeling, Painting or for whatever Reason you need your reference Images.

But instead of Chris Lesage's URL examples do this:
Name = Polycount
Keyword = ply
URL = site:www.polycount.com/forum/ %S
Don't forget the space between the / and % also the S at the end needs to be capitalized otherwise multiple word search terms will be separated with "%20" instead of spaces which messes up the google search.
GameTextures is an amazing site for getting high quality textures that are prepared specifically for use in games. They have a free membership that allows you to grab some nice free textures but to get access to their full library you need to pay a low membership fee (it's worth it imo!)
Fire Alpaca is a SUPER lightweight tool that is great for basic painting, it also has some nice familiar hotkeys from Photoshop, which a difference being that it has visible rotate canvas and flip canvas buttons, which are also keybound to the arrow keys. It also has a little bit of line smoothing and is free. I've been using it recently for still life painting practice and even with just the basic brush tools I find it to be pretty nice, especially since my computer is so old that Photoshop look lag too much when painting at the same resolutions.
Basically the old Pencil animation software that sort of died off in 2008 is being worked on again by a few new developers, they already improved some of the stability with the software and the interface is pretty nice. I like a more traditional approach to animation and using a mix of feathering with the pencil tool and paintbucket make it pretty easy to do soft shadows and lighting in it.
DropMocks is a page where you just drag and drop images into it and it automatically makes it into a simple to navigate gallery with a link to share it. Even for normal image uploads it could be quiet useful and faster then other sites.
A free alternative to crazy bump called Knald, it's gpu accelerated so it works pretty fast. I don't know if it's any better than crazy bump since I've never used Crazy Bump so... :P But it's free!
