EN: hmm might do, fun to just doodle out some wierd looking creatures ^^
Frell: really like your grass study. i really should study some color theory aswell. if you got any good tutorials/books to suggest that would be swesome : )
Frell: I would say that your best bet is to study rooms with such lighting setup.
Great stuff guys!
Twoflower: His upper body looks nice but his lower body is to sharply bent, if he where half machine it could work but it just dosent look very organic. I recommend yo do some animal studys, a great way to learn animal anatomy for monsters and such.
Still think you need to push your values, your images will be much more interesting if you use the full scale of values. Did a quick level adjustment on your latest image to show you what i mean.
Thanks man but there is a reason why my values are the way they are. Its simply much easier to paint color on them with overlay layers if their values are more mid-grey. After I have colored them I usually finish them with a new layer on top.
Interesting stuff there, working more with composition are we? nice! Maybe you should try bluring the face in the foreground? I like day 18 (the top one), but the character in the door could maybe be a bit smaler and more faded? Well cool stuff anyway.
here is my Day 80, forgot to post yesterday since I was on a concert.
Louomi: Hehe nice work there! Like the pose! Her back feels a bit flat but I can see that you havent really spent a lot of time on it yet. Well thats really up to you, I know I wanna draw everyday but if you feel that once a week its better for you, go ahead
The important thing is that we keep up practicing ze drawing and painting right?
Louomi: if you feel like doing 1 a week, go for it^^ just fun seeing more people post here!
EN: ah ok, haven't gone from greyscale to color that much so didn't know that ^^ yeah prob should have blured the face somewhat so the focus lands more on the big dude. btw like your day 81!
day 20,
turned out quite crappy, should have spent more time on it and added some details
cool, like the smoke effect from the guns really adds a nice effect to your image. did you use the lasso tool for the highlights on the weapons or just a brush? because they really got a nice hardness to them : )
day 22 didn't continue on the last image, felt like doing a texture. need to work some more on it
Texture looks nice, some good 3D feeling there, but if your aming for rocks you might wanna look a bit at a few reference pictures while painting. Dont get me wrong the shapes looks cool and solid, and they would totally fit in a carooney sorta game. But if you are going for realistic its just not quite there. The problem isnt the shading but rather the structure in my opinion. Stones are generally not shaped that way. As a texture exercise though its a cool texture
used this as main reference: http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/29193642.jpg
Have reworked some shapes but still doesnt look that much like the reference. Should have studied the structure of the rock more closely and sketched out some possible layouts to see how i could get it to resemble my reference better before moving on to rendering out the different shapes.
Live and learn ^^
Still think you need to push your values, your images will be much more interesting if you use the full scale of values. Did a quick level adjustment on your latest image to show you what i mean.
It is a common mistake to paint everything with a full range of values. Value is relative to material and lighting etc, there's not many materials that can be painted accurately with a full range (maybe chrome etc, highly reflective materials). The right thing to do is identify what it is your painting and use a range of values that best describes it. You will rarely if ever find full blacks and full whites on anything.
Good work though guys, its great to see people being so productive on such a regular basis.
Twoflower: Nice work there, Bastion right? Cool shading. His right hand need some work though, I suggest you look at your own, a friends, or a photo of a hand in that position. Right now it looks kinda flat, thing you need to give the lower part of the fingers some more volume, remember that fingers have multiple places where they bend
Sorry for not uploading my recent picture, my wrist have kinda been hurting over the weekend since I accidently strained it a bit while working out. Its a bit better now though so here is four days worth of work (some of them I drew with my left hand to avoid working with my right hand)
fightpunch: great advice! ill keep that in mind
Erik: thanks ^^ will work some more on the hands and try not to get them to look so flat. ye it's from bastion, really liked the artstyle for that game.
Hope your wrist will get better soon! must suck to have to draw with your left hand.i wouldnt even be able to draw stickfigures with my left hand :S
day 26 did some pencil sketches but don't have a scanner.
Yeah there is some nice art in that game and thanks, wrist feels much better now! You should really try doing some stuff with your left hand too, just to try it out, Its a really cool experience. It´s not so much about trying to create the most awesome pic ever as it is finding a new perspective in your drawing. Its crazy how cool stuff you might come up with on random!
Btw I use my phone for most of my pics, not my scanner ^^
So anyway here is a few soldier guys I painted today - Day 89 -
If you like random stuff you should totally try out alchemy. Dii from here on polycount got a sweet sketchbook with some stuff in it from alchemy and check the demo he did [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4OwR1Pj_DU&feature=channel_video_title"]Alchemy Introduction + Speed Demos - YouTube[/ame]
Took a break from the kid and made a dirt texture : P
day 28
Cool stuff man, yeah I know about Alchemy but after that video I think I wanna try it out a bit more
Clay texture is very cartooney and stylished, coolio it works well. Might wanna try some more color variations? Just slightly different goes a long way
Think you could use some more warm stuff, the pic still feels a bit desaturated. Rockformations is cool but you might wanna fade the ones further away more into the background.
Twoflower - Your ellipses are off. On a bucket like that, they should all look petty much the same but be sized differently. Also, you could make it look a but rounder like below ( I did a little paintover):
And Erik, I used these brushes : ) The two bottommost ones are just standard brushes, the other ones I made myself.
Thought that bucket seemed kinda off, didn't think about skething out the form of the cirkles first and go from there. Will do that next time : )
Awesome stuff guys, really fun browsing this thread and see what you guys are upp to.
Day 31 (woah been doing this for a month now!)
Got caught up playing Heroes of Newerth with some friends, managed to do this while queueing for new games.
Nice work there, think you should try to mix in a lot more different colors and different values of those colors. Dont be afraid to try something crazy, like say purple, or maybe bluish shadows.
Yeah i can see what you mean, the color choice seems really booring to me now that you pointed that out. Will try and go abit crazy with the color choice next time.
day 33 - Saw your thumbs and wanted to do some black and white stuff aswell ^^
Erik: cool perspective, hope you will continue on that one.
Louomi: really nice for being so quick sketches! i should prob start painting more from ref aswell
Replies
I need to learn to draw something else than just rock : P
day 15
Day 77 -
Frell: really like your grass study. i really should study some color theory aswell. if you got any good tutorials/books to suggest that would be swesome : )
day 16: Tilable plank texture
no idea what kinda shadow that would match that light setup.
day 17 (didnt do this days sketch after 2am o.O)
Great stuff guys!

looks like the perspectives are clashing there, you should try to draw some perspective lines when doing environment, it will help a lot
Take a look at this - http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=131359
