leaving for spain tomorrow, will see if I'll be able to post before that
Tried doing something quick for the challenge! Really need to practice this technique, so it was fun to try. Wanted to use photos I had taken myself, so I had to scavenge around my cellphone photos
aiconx: Cool creature, think you need to mix your colors more and use less saturation. (sharp green against sharp purple ARGGGGHHHHHH! ;D
S_ource: Nice! Just keep painting over it! Add a little paint to the background also!
Twoflower: Liking that creepy look!
Kinekun: good start! Keep at it! more light and shadows! Try paint everything in grayscale (around 128x128x128 grey) and then use another layer with overlay to color it, helps me get some nice color variation as a base.
Yeah nice vehicle Erik...(would love to see a video on something like that, like you did on your characters)
I will most likely not continue on the bug painting, think im better of doing other stuff. the right medkit is what i painted and left is some color overlay thingy to try another color version, which one do you guys like?
EDIT: I really like the stylish shading you got on the biggest head Erik.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate you coming with feedback! I'll be working more on values and starting from thumbs here onwards. I think I really need the values practice, so did a bit today
S_ource: Thanks man, maybe il do that eventually
As for your paintings, just keep at it dude, if you are unsure of what to do I recommend doodeling faces and anatomy, check som refs and go crazy!
kinekun: Nice work dude, I would advice to also doodle faces and anatomy, always a good practice. Other than that, try not to leave any areas completely smooth (just one value, like your ground/sky) Take a brush with 50% oppacity or something and go nuts!
Twoflower: Nice pictures, and thanks! The one above has some nice depth in it, but the cliffs don't look too realistic, and some more foreground elements would maybe be nice. Also more cliff/rock refs I think would be good + more props in the landsape (boulders, rocks, bushes, tall grass etc)
The one with the trees have some nice rocks/stones and bushes but lack good depth, also its composition is a bit too perfect.
Nice work though, like the color variation, no complete black what I can see! Good good!
I started browsing some tutorials and decided to brush up the basics, get some practice in. So nothing fancy this time, just some gestural drawing with spoons galore
Oh btw guys, Im going away over the weekend (trying to take a break from the computer) so I won't be able to upload anyting. However fear not! My trusty bag full of paper and pencils will accompany me so I will probably upload a bunch of stuff on monday instead
Good luck with all your sketching! Make sure to watch a lot of tutorials! (Feng Zhus voice is actually kinda meditating to listen to wile you paint)
agreed painting while listning to tutorials or a livestream/podcast can really get you into the flow ^^
Really nice image there Erik like the rendering of the environment, think you took more time for this drawing than you usually do because it feels more finished than your usual uploads. Think you could have given the monster some elements that makes it stand out from the environment abit more. Had a hard time finding the monster at first and its hard to see where the monster begins and ends.
Man i should probably take a break from the computer aswell, have a nice weekend
Hello, nice traditional work guys. Practicing painting with color, started with a black siluette colored it with a overlay layer merged it sampled and changed color and painted over it. The whole body was green at first but added a blue front but i think it looked better first. I also think its some big perspective errors. Will see if i dare to do the challenge not good at painting humans.
Then you most definitely should do the challenge! You wont get better at it if you dont throw yourself in there. A year ago I couldn't draw faces at all!
Nice looking ship btw, you should be proud! Big improvment!
Yay! Home, back from uninspiredness (if that is even a word), and drawing again
TF, your environment art is kicking ass lately. Keep it up, you are getting better with each pic
aiconix, that guy from day 48 is awesome. Really dynamic. I want to see you developing one of your characters further. I always feel like you finish at 50%, and your stuff could be even better.
Nice studies Erik. Your characters are feeling quite "natural" so to say.
Kind of early WIP of a tank for my personal project:
Hey guys! Good stuff as always! Sorry I kinda fell off there. I'm in the middle of a move from TX to Canada! So not getting as much time as I like to draw and paint, but I got this guy done today.
Really nice designs aiconix. I can't even choose, I love all of them
Same for you Erik. Really nice colors on the first two, and the last has great momentum to it.
Day 38 (?) "Handpainted" stuff. I'm planning on modelling and texturing these as well:
Hey guys, here's a start from yesterday. I've been working on pushing my creativity and creature and character design. Environments have always come more natural.
ErikNilsson - good characters you've got there. I like dynamic pose of the ninja chick. Also the mech looks pretty sweet.
aiconx - I think I like designs 6 & 7. Could be cool to give some sort of weapon in the other hand too.
Aleon - Cool weapon designs. I really like the arrows. I think the tomahawk could use some cool design or something in the free space on blade. Also maybe a good nick on the edge of the blade.
@Owl: The idea with the axe was some kind of starter weapon, nothing fancy. It looks kind of plain tho, I can't deny. Let me know if you have any ideas.
I love those creature/thing desigsn btw. They have a really nice unique style. Show us more pls.
Erik: Cool design on that robot and the sword chicks pose is way cool
Aleon: the arrow concept is really nice and i like the cloth and how you worked in some color variation on the axe. Think the axe head could use some more white highlights to sell that its metal
101 another quick sketch and a fence with handpainted diffuse + spec
Thanks for the tip TwoFlower, it did help a lot. I love that fence, reminds me of War3 in the colors. Great materials too.
Day 39 - I call this one finished (if someone has comments, or anything to fix please let me know ):
Also I hope it's not a problem that I posted it here, as this supposed to be a 2D art thread.
Erik: The 2nd one is my favourite, I don't like those weird antennas on the front, and the 2nd one has the longest navigation-thingies on the side which help with breaking up the silhouette.

Gonna do one of these for this weeks challenge.
Here is a quick speedpaint I did.
kinekun, watch your values. Maybe try it out in greyscale first?
Here are my sketches for today. I spent a little too much time on the dwarf (he's my first one).
Just doodeling - Day 175:

Also your ink stuff is awesome. I have decided to take a break from PS for a while, trying to practice my traditional media skillz.
Here is stuff from yesterday and today.

Theme: Paint a Space Marine concept (Big soldier with big armor and gun)

Videos for inspiration:
Nice looking ship btw, you should be proud! Big improvment!

Back from my trip! Puked from food poisoning and slept at airports, but swam and stuff as well
Sketch for the space marine thing from earlier and a left hand batgirl
Aiconx: welcome back man ^^
day 97
You are really good at giving your environments atmosphere TF, I can see the improvement from your earlier stuff in this thread
cool dynamic pose! do you use any photo ref for it or are you just drawing from imagination? the foreshortening on the arms are really great
day 98 volcanic interior tryed out using some photo textures
thanks I usually just make it up myself, like this one, but sometimes I use refs and it often turns out better
quick ones today
Think the composition were more interesting when i cropped the image.
Sorry for being so absent guys, been away for a few days. Anyway, here is the last days work (gonna finish that last one tomorrow)
Day 186-189:

Looking good guys!
Thanks aeon! Decided to try and do something 100 % finished, would love you guys' opinions on outfit choice for my mage dude
no time for a left hand sketch today, have to go to a convetion and haven't started packing. see you guys monday
aiconx: like 7 and 9, think 9 would be cool for a modern wizard and 7 for a more classic fantasy look. Going away for n
aiconx: 3, 4, 7, 8, 9. Really nice!
Day 190!
(Did quite a lot today!)
Same for you Erik. Really nice colors on the first two, and the last has great momentum to it.

101 another quick sketch and a fence with handpainted diffuse + spec

Gonna do a robot a day I think, all of them will originate from the same civilization/planet/world.
Day 39 - I call this one finished (if someone has comments, or anything to fix please let me know ):
