Going to spend this weekend beating on ZBrush Dynamesh booleans to see if I understand the workflow for hard surface stuff.
First one:
Has some issues like faceting in places that exists because I didn't know what I was doing when GoZ'ing from Modo. But I think I've got that handled now so the next piece will look better!
Use much higher subdivision before you boolean and raise your dynamesh resolution maybe?
You could also use one of the polish modifiers.
I wonder how tight the edges are and if this is good for bakes?
Onelung - thanks man! I'll be sure to keep that area of the goggles in mind while texturin
ae. - thanks dude!
ithoual - nice work! colors look cool so far, a secondary leather color to help separate the cloth and strap elements might be nice. maybe some purple to help pop out the yellow bits?
fred2303 - nice bake, looking forward to seeing your texture progress

Basically, yes. I need to make sure that I can subdivide the mesh I'm performing the boolean with enough times that it becomes smooth. I didn't do that on the first few ... but, hey, lesson learned!

I'll look into that, thanks!

Probably not much good. If I think ahead, I can angle things a little better for baking but this is more just to feel good about how to efficiently build things using this method.
FFFF, guize, I'm only 1 artist here. You're asking for miracles.
As for Fingus's question, it took a while. It was a combination of meshlab and many hours of manual edge loop stripping after subdividing it 400 times.
Worth it for those deets.
@Fightpunch I've not used sketchup before (hardly know a thing about it!)... and I'm interested in learning it. Would you mind shedding some light on how you created this?
@lonewolf - Impressive execution! It looks like you put a lot of energy in to it, I really like the tactile feeling you achieved with the surface materials. The only minor/nitpicky thing I would potentially change is the digital feeling of the cast shadow, I think quickly blurring it in photoshop a little as it recedes might ground it better to the plane?
Art jam at work - still have some finishing touches to add...
Speedpaint - something a bit different: I started off with this: http://new.weavesilk.com/ - give it a go, it's good fun

@Fieldscarecrow, I'll write some thing up about my process but to start with I'd just watch the first few sets of tutorial videos on the google website, they're really simple and get across the fundamentals really quickly and easily.

Wow, you seriously just commented on that? It's around 9 months old! :P
This looks like great topology, especially around the mouth. Saving.
So much good stuff people are posting so just going to shut up. More faces:

redbranch - awesome stuff!
Pretty happy with this for now (might have to do a few adjustments when we get around to playtesting) Time to start on the second level!

Try as had as I might, I just couldn't strip it down further than 2 tris.
I have failed.

Anyway, I'm learning and having fun and that's what's important.
