been forever since i last posted in polycount, but i'm sorta back from the dead!
been doing various stuff for a fallout mod and decided to do some handpainting, first time attempting to paint wood...was a good experience, although more work could have been put into the wood i guess.

So adorable!
I've just been doing more work on my generic Drop Ship.
Another day, another generic and unfinished human head sculpt from me.
At least this one has hair!
No refs used at all, for the sculpt or texture and just a rough polypaint.
People often ask me about the texture on these sculpts I do, so I figured I show an unshaded + matcap only so you can see what is texture, and what is sculpt.
Incredible! Really awesome work. The final renders are great. Your kitbash method sounds awesome, and the results are badass. I would love to give it a try.

Dude, this looks great! No reference though, why would you do that to yourself? I mean, what do you hope to accomplish by doing that?
Exactly. It looks great OrganizedChaos. But I think you're setting a bad example for others who are still trying to hone their skills, by bragging about accomplishing that without using any references.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with using refs. It is impressive though, and still would have been if references were used.
Ive been working on this since yesterday and i dont really like it lol it looks off think im going to have to take it in another direction and bring those traps down alot make it all look normal - ish
All no Ref means is its not based off someone. That's not bragging, that's called being creative.
Why would you say no ref if you didn't base it off someone? To me, saying no ref means "i didn't look at anything", in which case, Scooby is trying to make something realistic without using any kind of groundpoint to know if he's doing things right. Which is just... confusing to me? It seems to go against what I've learned about how to make art look good (reference reference reference)
Mostly here- sure, ok Scoob, no reference... but... why? Do you have a personal goal you're not stating? Was it to see if you could? Was it to show off that you could? I'm just curious.
Tobbo- I think you meant to refer to scoob there?
Edit: Just editing this to add that the sculpt looks amazing. I'm impressed by what you managed to accomplish here Ryan. Maybe you didn't use reference simply because you didn't need it
I do quick sculpts with out ref to see how far i can get before i need to use ref its a fast way to find out what anatomy you don't fully understand then you can flick to ref and learn straight away. Thats the only time i dont use ref lol and its for a purpose.
@Splatt: you could maybe try scaling up the head? Also the separation between legs and torso seem to be leaving the hips out?
It does seem to have a rather short torso lol and yea i think if i make the traps smaller and the head a bit bigger things will start to look a bit more normal

I disagree with it being a bad influence. Ref is great, but you can go without it once you've honed your skills to the level of the Scoobs. I never use ref for cloth, i like to have fun with it, and I think Ryan is in that same boat.... except with heads.
Hey folks ! Haven't post anything in a while, this time I want to share with you my entry for a recent competition - the double happy creature challenge. I've opened a new thread for this here, there are several images explaining my process behind this creature. Hope you like it
Not game art related but what the hell, I had fun making it.
My girlfriend wants an english bulldog puppy really bad (but we live in the city where its kinda cruel to have a dog so it's a no no for now) and since I wanted to do a few tests with Vray Fur anyway I decided to model a part of our living room with our future/virtual dog wich she insists on naming Fonzy...
here is a character that I am currently working on, been working on him for a little less then a week now. Im working based on my own concept, he should be some kind of skater/streetish type of guy. all comments are welcome and apreciated! cheers
Here is an update on my tunnel.
Getting close to done now!
Really nice work man! Not so sure about the slightly rotated camera in the overall composition. Make it feel a little bit more like a upgoing tunnel rather than a corridor, imo. Keep up the awsome work! Ha det gött! Tjo

more on this on my thread!
I may be totally wrong, but those edges look pretty sharp.
Whoa is that Guyver??? Good work so far dude =D
Just got a bunch of HDRI to play with. How did I ever live without these?!
Some reference pictures can be found here: http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b197/SiaoMouse/Model%20References/Future%20Boy%20Conan/
It contains a lot of images of the airplane from the serial or from models.
Some parts have been pretty tough to do and I am sure if I would know how to use Zbrush all the small details would have been easier to make.
Still a lot of small details to add, but wings are pretty much done.
Awesome atmosphere.

I don't know, the best way I can think of describing how this is bad is in Paul Richard's article here- http://autodestructdigital.blogspot.com/2012/04/visual-remix.html#more under define/refine your loop.
