They specifically adress that trailer in the eurogamer article, gives me much higher hopes for this game. (I played DI for 10 minutes and never opened it again).
And that said, this game might actually make me consider getting a PS3, wowzerz..
Mutants imply genetic changes or defects which it is not, it's basically fungi growth spreading the right kind of chemicals to the hosts brain, enough to set them into a zombie state to do whatever basic thing the fungi needs out of it.
In the case of cordyceps it makes the creature climb up as far as it can, where it will die and the spreading of spores can begin.
Which makes me think of another thing, they are most likely immune, as spores spread really easily.
Regardless, I don't think we should be afraid to call it a zombie game, nor should naughty dog, I consider the road a post-apocalyptic movie even when it's far away from being mad max.
Just say it's a zombie game focused on survival and character, embrace the genre and help make it something better instead of trying to wipe it off.
agree:
I suppose gangster genres , detective genres, western genres, get to exist without being second guessed.
At what point is another Zombie game NOT just an un-original idea but a culturally embedded genre-specific art form?
In which case you could aspire at an early age in bringing advancement to your favorite genre...
with a concentration in as much.
How depressing then it must be to have an industry consider as much "just a hackneyed idea" instead of a valid literary/artistic concentration.
And,
How awesome it must have been to be Akira Kurosawa and be able to play in ( for a majority of his repertoire ): "a samurai genre sandbox", for all your life!
And in the end be celebrated for it.
Considering how many awful zombie variations are out there...
I am also hoping that the zombie high tide has finally passed. But for the above considerations, I always have guilt when I dismiss a genre where some uber-brilliant zombie maestro may have a future citizen kane in the works
( Roseblood ).
That was a great read. As the father of a daughter, and a lover of survival adventures, I fully support this project. Naughty Dog do the idea justice like I know you will. I look forward to playing it through with my daughter (after I play through it once to make sure she can handle it of course).

exactly! The grand-daddy of all zombie stories is actually about vampires: I am Legend (the book not the 3 horrible movie adaptations)
No way, I thought it looked cozy as hell, even if I suspect it was mooded up for the shoots.
Especially the last desk is pretty much exactly how I like it.
Marketing: "WE NEED SCREENSHOTS NOAAAAOOWWW!!"
Dev team: "We don't have time, we are trying to make a good game"
Marketing: "then we will take OUR OWN SCREENS!! How hard can it be! Look, this one has a lot of ACTTTIIOOON!!"
the ISO of the camera has to be turned right the way DOWN so that you can see the screens clearly. So the room was probably very bright, but if they didn't change their Shutterspeed/ISO the monitors would have looked like white glows.
And yes Goraaz that was defo Mike (Catstyle) in the video, even though he doesn't want to admit it. lol. Probably the youngest Lead Char artist ever
Hmm, who let them use these images? That truck doesn't look very nice.
theirs probably 30 other cars in that area, if you look at most of the Vehicle assets in Uncharted there not very hi-res, i think lowering the res on the vehicles and upping the res on the characters is a good trade off.
Looks really mixed in those pics... I'm betting they are pics they didnt exactly have much choice/say in releasing. The game looks amazing regardless of a shitty low res truck lol. I have total faith in ND, but I wouldn't mind seeing some gameplay. ATM in my head, I just see Uncharted still, and this could be NOTHING like it... But atm, thats all I see
One things for sure though... I wish I knew just what the hell they were doing with hair... It looks amazing!
Can't wait to see some proper game-play clips. Has it been revealed what city it is yet? I know everybody likes to use it cause it's famous and easy to recognize and all, but I don't think I'm alone in feeling like it's beyond overdone at this point.
So, I don't know if anyone thinks the same but I do have a strange gut feeling about this. I very much enjoyed the trailer - visuals, direction, acting, everything was great (except for the weird, overly animated eyebrows but that's a bit of a ND trademark now haha). The directors interview was interesting too.
But when I imagine this in the context of a game, I don't know really. I don't really want to see the camera pull back from a cinematic angle to show me yet another dull third person view of a character in idle pose, waiting for me to nudge it around.
Don't get me wrong - I love third person action adventure games, from Tomb Raider to Gears and Vanquish. But for some reason I feel like The Last of Us has been designed around a story and a setting (zombies, I am Legend, and so on) instead of being articulated and driven by game design (like the puzzles and platforms of Tomb Raider or the action in Vanquish). TLOU sounds great and edgy in interviews and screenshots ... but I find it surprising that they are only talking about the setting instead of giving us game mechanics details. It could turn out very dull ...
Of course there is hope that the interactions between the two main characters will be the main hook. But I personally didn't find the Uncharted 2 segments relying on that gimmick to be very good. If anything, Ico might have been the only game to ever do it right ...
Another great behind the scenes vid for the mocap trailer. The very first few sentences I think pretty clearly address the infected in our game and show how its not a "zombie game" at all
Just watched that arsh... holy hell this looks like it's going to be straight on crazy sex ride! I DIG IT!!! Naughty Dog I'm sneaking in your windows tonight to play your games... I'll leave a thank you note!
When is this supposed to be out? looks like its going in the right direction. I would like to see some gameplay elements and more about what the game intends to do with it. I expect great things from this tho. Awesome stuff.
Very cool, but if it boils down to playing just like Uncharted but without the tomb raider-esque gameplay I'll be . Always felt the shooting/ hiding behind chest high walls mechanics never fit in Uncharted.

That's alright, that movie sucked.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!
Love the lighthing! But..that truck..
Looks interesting though. Dying to see some gameplay on this.

(Based on a true story)
not really, I think it was that particular guys camera that was making it a lot darker than it actually is.. it's really a fun happy place :poly124:

HNNNNNGGGHHH
would you hit it?
We have to go back!
One things for sure though... I wish I knew just what the hell they were doing with hair... It looks amazing!
A dog as companion would have been cool aswell.
Anyways, about the texture issues, you can't expect more, it's a game for console.
They do know what they're doing dont they?
Sweet feature! Plus really haunting photos of Detroit.
That one should work

Sadly, those were once great buildings. I wish I could have seen Detroit before it became abandoned :-(

I really don't want to set my expectations too high but they make it pretty hard.
