TEFOSAV - a small group of experimental electronic musicians that I belong to, recently reformed after a hiatus of 10 or so years. the first album we've put together is one of remixes of each other's work which we've got up on Bandcamp. Would be interested to hear people's thoughts. You can also buy a copy if you're feeling particularly generous. If we sell enough copies, I might almost be able to afford a cup of coffee which would be nice. http://tefosav.bandcamp.com/
I produce under the name FPU for reasons known only to my teenage self.
Well this is not really me, or well not at all actually haha, but rather my little brother singing his original songs, He just started attending a University for music back in Sweden, guess it wouldn't hurt him getting a few more views.
It's 16 songs, ranging from music from the kirby franchise to final fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Cave Story, Sonic II.. We have some cool prizes and shit, and would love to hit $5,000 so we can make vinyls! And once we fund it, and record it..we are gonna give it away for free on Bandcamp!
Made a track from samples I recorded on various trains, all synths/effects created from those samples. Anyone doing the London commute should recognise the sounds.
HEY RICH!
I've been interested in getting some sort of midi keyboard setup but I can't play piano for crap. What's your skill level, because every piece of advice I get is "buy a full sized midi keyboard, mini ones aren't big enough"
I fooled around with music production in uni, like 6 years ago and I'm just getting interested again- I have the notion that I'd like to make a game top to bottom by myself.. I had piano lessons when I was young but I didn't get very high in the grades (I opted out of doing them). But I know some basic music theory.. my timing is pretty poor need to do lots of takes! anyway, I think having a larger midi keyboard is certainly very useful and if you're trying to play chords and a melody a 2 octave keyboard aint gonna cut it.
For the minibrute, it's not so much an issue since it's a monophonic synth, and I have a larger midi keyboard I could plug in as a controller. I agree with TeeJay analog is not a necessity, but I will say this: using a physical instrument with all the knobs and sliders in front of you is a lot different to using a soft synth.
I used Reason in uni and still love it, but I'm getting much more enjoyment from the Minibrute even though its soundset is more limited- mainly because every single function of the synth has a knob or slider- there's no LCD menus or multi-use knobs. Also, there's no patch memory, which at first sounds bad but it forces you to develop an intuition and familiarity with every parameter.
Some music my band has recently recorded. 'Change my way' shouldn't be on there, not sure who put that up but it's obviously in need of some actual mixing :P All the recordings were done in our old basement, so they're not the best overall, but we had a blast doing it.

I made this short Moon remix a while ago, using FLStudio and my little Akai LPK25 keyboard. Did it just to learn FLStudio really, but listening to it now, I still like it.
went back to check some info here and realized that guy who asked us to delete all his posts has left huge info gaps! THANKS A LOT PERSON I WON'T NAME!
A small piece was thought as background for a casual game. The game was never programmed but it was real fun to make "Music Lesson". http://snd.sc/1aCbPRB
Hey I am wondering I want to start writing music with my synthesizer and I want to use a program like FL Studio to write the music. The idea is that I still record myself playing each track but keep a midi notation in the program. Should I get FL studio for that or is there a program that is better and cheaper?
Mstankow: yeah, FL studio will let you do that. There are other sequencers you may consider: Cubase, Ableton Live, Logic, Sonar, ProTools, etc..
They all have their advantages, but if you're just starting, don't worry about it too much and just pick one (try a demo first).
I personally use Ableton Live, its session view is really cool for improvising and experimenting before I build my track structure.
Here's my music: https://soundcloud.com/moonphase
Ableton would be nice to get but it is kinda expensive. But I don't plan on doing much with the computer. If I ever get to performing level, the idea is to use computer very minimally and use mostly hardware. Even to the point where I want some nice (but very expensive) hardware sequencers.
kamih: Wow, amazing stuff! Your reblogs confused me at first (I don't like soundcloud's structure for that, it made it look like those were your tracks). Your tracks make me super nostalgic.
Makkon: Thanks for listening! Glad you like it
Yeah I've been on a nostalgic 80s synthwave kick lately hehe.
And yes, I also hate how the reposts don't look different than your own tracks. I should actually write them about changing this.
You have some pretty cool orchestral tracks! Nice job!
What sample libraries do you use?
I actually took an online orchestration class last summer which was a lot of fun. Here's what came out of it: http://people.happycoders.org/kamih/499
I just put up a new song called Young Heart. It takes a bit to start up but I'm hoping it doesn't sound too poop. I'm working on a couple more for this andddd yuh :P
Jason: Never EVER apologize for your medium. This has good production value, though I think the mix could use a bit of work. The voice sounds very distant and the guitar sounds closer than the voice, and a little distorted (I hear some phasing with competing frequencies). It also feels like it could use some more panning to widen the mix. Other than that, this is AWESOME.
So I tried FL Studio (Fruity Loops) and I don't think this is the program for me. The lack of score view was annoying and it really feels like the whole program is geared toward playing electronic dance music but towards nothing else. I don't want to create "dance music". Also, midi lag was terrible. I kinda fixed that but boy is it laggy. Maybe I will try Ableton or pro tools next. Or maybe I should just go for a straight up scoring program.
So I bought a Korg Volca Keys instead of FL Studio. I enjoy working with hardware so much more than a computer program for music. Though I will probably use FL Studio to record Flux Mode sequences on to the Volca Keys.
I have been jamming with the Volca Keys and Sub Phatty and I got some cool stuff together. I should record some jams soon. My next plan though is to get a mixer. Oh and using midi out from my Sub Phatty and getting a kinda 6 oscillator monosynth by playing the synths in unison is super awesome and fat souding. Though the Moog is a monster compared to the Volca. I wonder if a Minifooger Boost would help make the volca sound more intense. But I think I would rather get a Moogerfooger Phaser first.
I recommend to anybody to get a Volca keys if you want a polyphonic analog synth for only $150.
Hey folks, let me be the first one to post in 2014
I have been into house music lately, its nice as background for working, so i decided to try it myself. This is my yt channel: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHLdBPzNBmMqpu2FP-JOLDw
nice one makkon, awesome chart! I spent last night and this afternoon diving into ableton and decided to try my hand at remixing an old song i used to dig in highschool. Dirty Vegas - days go by. check it out and let me know what you think
