@Fred2303
The huge size and sharpness of your images is making it really hard to get a good idea of what the model looks like. some cleaner renders would help.
Started working on this guy's armour, he'll be wearing a cuirass over what he's got now, also changed his ears and legs a bit. I agree that the Conan O'brien hair isn't brilliant but I'm not really sure what to do with it, so I'll leave it for now.
I noticed every single time I create a thread for my own projects I end up too busy to actually update it with anything and they end up dying, so I'll be posting just here from now on and then create a thread whenever I finish something.
What I'm working on right now is this giant scarab beetle (not 100% scarab beetle, I took parts from other beetles but that's the main one, anyway). A person is supposed to be able to ride it, so it's about 1.5m wide, over 4m tall and about 1.2m tall, all without counting the legs.
Here are some sketches and the 3D sculpt I started to work on:
I still need to add more details, define certain areas and whatnot. But before that I will finish the head, then retopo it and then add the finer details, as that will be easier with the cleaner mesh.
I made some paint over to show some of the things 'missing':
Hey SirCalalot thanks!. If you see the first sketch, the beetle is holding some equipment and whatnot on it's back. It would need to have some ropes around and probably going inside each shell, and out, or around the body. If I put the ropes/belts around the body, it wouldn't be able to open the wings at all, and if I put the ropes just around each side of the shell, it could potentially open it to release the wings, but it would look quite awkward.
Other thing that bothers me is that probably a beetle this size would be too heavy to fly with those wings, even if the scale is the same as in a small beetle (then again dragons are huge too and they fly as well...). I've done some research and some kind of beetles have evolved (devolved?) in a way to become so heavy and their wings so weak that they can't fly at all, even if they still got the wings behind the shells.
And yeah, animating the thing just makes my head hurt :P I don't animate all that much stuff, so doing this would require quite a bit. I wanna add some bones to the legs and head, claws (dunno their names) and all those tentacles near the head and move them on a repeating 'standing' animation.
Edit: vvv Thanks urgaffel!. I dunno how I forgot that word.. (I'm from Spain and in Spanish it's called 'mandibulas'...) Glad you're liking it!
I think your container looks pretty sweet, but one of the ends is really dirty and looks nice and the other looks like plastic, and perfect, maybe if you were to damage up that side a little bit, it would look nicer! Overall it looks really well done!
I love your Pandaren tea garden, I think it looks awesome! I know the POINT of it is to look a little dark with the little house to be a focal point, but I think the fog is just a little too thick, but I might be a crazy person!
I really think you guys are doing some awesome stuff!

Thanks for the feedback, and yes I see that now and will fix it!
Question: Do the images need to be so wide when the character is only taking up 1/4 of it? Maybe go for three portrait style images instead of landscape? Just feels like a lot of dead space... Character looks pretty cool, would like to see a close up of the face since it looks like he's got crazy eyes (in a good way).
Any chance of a wire? With 15k tris it feels like the knees and boots could be a little bit rounder (segments only really visible from the side).
One last thing, purely presentational: the arm in the backpack doesn't come into its own in the angles you've chosen. Maybe move the camera in the front view a bit to the left so you can show off the arm? You only really see what it is in the first picture but there the hand is in front of the arm so it's hard to make out. In the middle picture it just looks like a skin coloured lump sticking up and in the last one you don't see it at all except for a tiny bit next to the head, making the neck look a bit odd on the right (our right) side. Feels a bit like a missed opportunity.
*edit*
After looking at the images for about 5 minutes I realised it's actually a leg and a foot. Oops.
Yeah, maximise your canvas. Three wide images when one could show off several angles is just wasteful. Or one beauty shot and one wire shot plus texture flats in a wide image.
But yeah, let's see some flats and wires! It's a pretty cool character overall, and you've got a nice set of props for him.
Been reworking an old character to make him look more videogame hero esque. got the bust pretty much done. workin on the body now. uvs are all good to go. im going to through this guy in messiah and learn how to rig/ animate in that. my plan is to make an animation that simulates a game, but it wont be an actual game... because im not a programmer.
i also plan on doing the music myself. here is a test track i made with some 8but plugins and fruity loops
Great stuff BetelGeist. I have been waiting a while to see some new stuff from you. I am looking forward to seeing where this guy goes. It might just be the length in the hair but he is looking a little bit feminine at the moment. Can't wait to see some more.
hey duncan! thanks dood. by the way i fricken loved how you changed that hulk sculpt to what it is now. huge improvement. you are right about the slight feminine ness. ive gotten that alot from friends. but not too sure what to do. theres a girl that goes along with him that is much more girly and curvey. so i was hopign they would contrast each other well enough. i like his long hair and windwaker esque face. so im not really sure what to do to make it so people dont mistake him for a girl
jims: very nice so far, i think she could use a little more contrast/color variation in the skin especially in the redder parts like the lips and ears. also that shaved hair looks way too undefined atm and the stretched tattoos on the neck could also use a little more definition
jimsvanberg: Cool! Are you going to give her dyed hair any roots to go along with the regrown shaved parts?
I'm workin' on a hydraulic lift table. My high poly is almost done, I'm just noodling about with the weld seams.
They look really dumb so far though. I think I need to smooth them out or something because right now they feel like they're just adding a bunch of noise. :I

Thats possibly the sharpest character I've ever seen.

Are there any plans to have the beast winged? Or are you not animating it?

Face-claws = mandibles.
Looking good, will be fun to see how it progresses!

@Mik2121:
Oh god Bugs! they look creepy! I like the idea of riding giant bugs, I especially like the horned head.
can they fly?

i especially love the guy on the right!
so heres the not so big and no so sharp version hahaha

I think you left your UV snapshot showing in your diffuse texture. I can see wires on the little cloth in his hand.

This is a head of a girl I have been working on, for the fun of it, 2232 tris, a duffuse of 512x512 with an alpha. Yeah that's it :P
Comment are cool, so add them

Great work this far! Looking forward for an update!
