Broken for sure. That was really my only big problem with Oblivion. From what I've read though, they've done their best to fix that issue with Skyrim.
Yep, which is why I'm so looking forward to play tomorrow.
While Oblivion was a good game it was fundamentally damaged at the core due to that, once I had seen the monster leveling take place I couldn't unsee it.
i feel its all really hard to explain, so ill have to check it out omrrow. but from the sounds of it, im super excited.
ive ALWAYS been a fan of "use it to level it" type games. I dont know if anyone here played the game dragon ball GT for playstation, but it was a dragon ball FIGHTING game, and you would level up, but your actual level meant nothing. the only things that would become more powerful were the skills / combos you used in your fights. so, if you punched a guy to death, your punch could be more powerful than someones biggest combo. it was fantastic. I miss those days.
But ya, i did hear alot of complaints about oblivion, but i never played it, so i dont really know why people were complaining. I just hope this game is actually difficult. I think part of the complaint about monster scaling was that people could run in and crush everything, no matter where they were int he world? so you could go to the end of the game at early levels. But alot of people wanted it so that some places would be too hard for you, so you had to come back at a later level? i think that was the gist of it?
In my experience, and this may just be a result of how I personally played the game, but as I leveled up, it became increasingly more annoying to battle enemies. For example, since the enemies leveled up with you, even though I maxed out my main combat skills (blade, strength, endurance, etc.) it would still take me a good 5 minutes hacking away at a simple goblin to kill it. I never really felt that I was becoming more powerful. As eld mentioned, I know people that would purposely postpone leveling up their character, as that was the only way to have more powerful skills than the enemies.
yeah the whole monsters leveing with you did remove all sense of "becoming more powerful" a feature I never liked in Oblivion. I did like it in the sense that you can pretty much go anywhere you want from the get go and there are never places of oh those are the easy areas, but still miss the feeling of POWER!

And bridgands in glass armour.
The problem was that you never actually progressed in any way, you were in a stalemate with the world, while in morrowind you would often find yourself in dungeons that were way too hard and later come back when you had become stronger, there were always challenging places that you had as these goals in the back of your head.
slipsius, yeah that's about it- some places are hard and some easier, and you work up to the hard places. Scaling bad guys also had the unfortunate effect that later in the game, when you came back to an area previously filled with low level bandits, they are now all sporting some of the rarest armour in the game. This rare armour that you strived to discover and wear with pride suddenly is like junk, even the lowest scum puts it on in the morning for a day of thieving
woah, read the wiki on the happenings between oblivion and skyrim, with 200 years passing, some crazy stuff going on, including the destruction of vvardenfell :x
is the elder scrolls a book or anything? like, i dont know anything about the story. is there a series of books about it like diablo and starcraft, or?
Six hours in and I'm loving it. Spent most that time on the main quest, and I don't feel all that close to being done. Over all the game feels like a huge step up from Oblivion in terms of gameplay.

Every game has always had massive amounts of book in them, tons of lore spanning now 5 games (not counting any of the spinoffs in the sam world)
There's bound to be quite some backstory and lore on the world :P
But like any peasant born in tamriel, you can just as well jump in without too much knowledge about the world, and it still works!

Can we still steal stuff while they're basketed in? Or have sex? What about dragons? Can we blind them with a barrage of baskets? Can our character wear a basket?
I've been saving up money just in case the situation arises that someone forgets to use spoiler tags in this thread over the next few weeks. That way I can fly to their respective location and beat their dragonborn ass.
Sadly some people think it will ruin the game. I just want to be in the same world as my friend while both of us work on our separate campaigns. And if we start from the beginning together we can do all quests together, simple as.
I'm wondering, will the people with physical copies need to install it on steam? I can't remember where, but I thought I read that somewhere. I'm hoping I can just install and go, and not have to download the entire thing like I did with Dawn of War 2.
So apparently there's some glaring design issues with the pc port of the game, mainly to due with the UI.
from what I'm reading mouse-support is irregular and most of the time players seem to have to scroll through menues with the arrow keys.
what the....? if you`re going to port something... especially something as big as this... the FIRST thing you should do is focus on controls. the reason people play on PC is for the mouse. why would they not fully support it? wtf

The only thing more epic would be a mod so that when I put a metal cauldron on someone's head, your hear the reverb and vibrations from the item and voice.
Soo found a little glitch... When on your horse, hold run, get off the horse while holding down your weapon strike button (I had a bow on) and you seem to run forever...
Ah finally got to play for a couple hours. Pretty fucking epic. The world feels immense and I've barely seen any of it.
This isn't my usual type of game, so I'm enjoying the experience. Gotta broaden those horizons every now and then.
I've decided to be an orc, and surprisingly, people haven't been particularly racist towards me yet. I mean, when an orc walks into a woman's house while she's chilling with her 10 year old daughter, and all she says is "sup dude, need anything?" you know you're not nearly scary enough. Fear me! We shall see though.
The other day I read something about copying the content from the DVD and then installing is faster than Steam installing it from the DVD.
It actualy seems to download it instead, I mean "Update 0%...", huh?
great game, first game in a while that just straight up worked without having dick around with drivers and .ini's/etc.
although just had a CTD when I entered "a place" (dont know how to do the spoiler thing). quick forum search indicates its place specific/possibly sound card related.

REALLY!?
So... No Silt Strider DLC?
edit: I think the events between oblivion and skyrim are in the two books published.

You've been warned.

OH GOD YES, OH LORDY, MY JOLLIES! YES, YES, YES!

I play PC for the mods and control of my content, but I use a controller for everything. Extreme CTS prevents me from using mice for gaming anymore.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, HERE WE GO!!!!
yea, pretty much
Even after the stamina depletes completely!
Find weapon/armor store,
Bring barrel.
Profit.
I can't resist temptation to steal everything if its possible!

The only thing that I really dislike are the menus. Either Bethesda has no QA for the PC version or noone bothered to play the game with a mouse.
edit: Oh, and I bought the game retail. It still downloaded almost six GB.
Ok, menus are weird, according to neolith. What else?
Well ain't that a big fuck you to us lefty's.
Been playing with the controller but that's just gimped. Let the waiting game for corrective mods commence. :P
haha yea i know what you mean
Oblivion, Fallout etc. all did that to me..
