Congrats to all you guys at Irrational Games at what appears to be a successful game. I broke in the end and preordered it. Cannot wait for it to unlock and spend a few hours with a new adventure in a city in the sky.
I hope it sells well, bacause it costed a lot, or that is what the press is saying, it's true that it costed around 200 million of dollars? Ken Levine joked in twitter about it.
That can't be right, $200mil would probably make it one of the top 10 most expensive games ever made, there's just no way to recoup those kinds of costs without an industry-defining hit. I mean it looks good, but not 5+ million sales good.
Pre-load is half-way, arrgh!
Any wordon m+k vs conroller? Steam Big Picture craps out when I move my keyboard to from my pc. I prefer m+k precision but if there's not a huge difference than I'd rather play on the big screen.
It'd be interesting to dig back through all of the blogs and find out where the $200 milion rumour started. Levine has refuted it several times on Twitter but it refuses to die.
I'm SO impressed with the style and lighting, the events, how Elisabeth behaves and looks, her skirt, the lighting of the environments, the cool enemies, the combat mechanics work perfectly, did I say that the lighting was impressive?
I'm a mess at work, I played for 4 hours straight last night after it unlocked on Steam but it was so worth it. Too bad I can't play tonight.
A massive congrats to the team that made this masterpiece. 10/10
I haven't bought a new game since Arkham City in order to save money for a new PC but who could pass up on this game? Decided to get it on console since it'd run better on there than on my current PC.
Annoyingly some git spoiled the ending on a comments section for a review though it's my own fault for reading those, I just like to see how people react to the game. Good job guys and Mr Vivi.

Tried both, but went with mouse and keyboard for the speed and precision, there's a million different keys to bind though. Didn't try bumping the sensitivity of controller up, might help.
Loving the game, vibrant colors and a cool atmosphere. Something that bothered me was to find the same people all over the place lol, repeated groups of the same guys.

Thanks Marine, I played about two last night with my 360 controller and didn't like it all. Maybe it's just mine but I found looking around really jerky and imprecise if the sensitivity was too low or absurdly fast if it's even one setting higher. Ended up dying a lot during that first big fight:(
That being said, this game is freaking fantastic! The lighting in particular is really quite striking but the life in the chracters is just something else. Especially the little kids playing when you first get there. I think I just stopped to watch and smile a good 5 times:)
This games beautiful, and on PC shines so much... I can't use another word to describe it, it really is just beautiful.
But is it just me, or are the PC mouse controls... Borked? Mouse accel feels odd both on/ off, the x/y possibly feels different levels, and the lowest setting for sensitivity is too slow, but the next one up spins me around the room.
Thankfully this is my only issue, everything else is amazing. I just cant understand how they made such as amazing piece of media like this, so well polished... But then maybe screwed up here?
everyone at irrational is a dick... I'm sitting at my desk like death warmed up cos they made a game I couldn't stop playing till 4am on a work night......dicks, the lot of them.
I got some issue with the graphic, please redo, or I ll put bad review

just kidding guys, its a minor stuff. the game and the graphic look absolutely stunning, probably one of the best looking game in both aesthetic and quality I ve seen for this gen. ! congratz!!!
I've only played 3 or so hours so far but I'm really enjoying it, cranked up all the settings and it looks + sounds great. I'm really enjoying taking my time looking at everything, reading all the text on every little thing and exploring every nook and cranny. It all feels super well crafted.
Only a couple things bug me, like the huge difference in mouse speed in menus and in gameplay; and some odd animation/art stuff
Maybe I'm the odd one out here, but aside from the strong art direction... I am not impressed at all with the quality of art assets in the game.
There is way too many mirrored textures, creating horrible patterns all over the place, and many locations are a bit too low poly with often badly implemented tiled textures. At one point I am noticing shadows from leaves along and in front of a building... yet the sun is in the wrong spot for there to be shadows there... and there are no trees!!! Makes me think the shadow was baked into the asset group itself.
In short, visually I was completely alienated.
Gameplay however is fun so far and it seems well thought out. I liked the slow pacing in the beginning in which to reveal the setting and little details about the man characters personality.
I am surprised however, and I dont know if this is intentional or not... that the setting avoided making use of fabian socialist as part of the driving force behind columbia as opposed to some how implying a more federalist approach. I hope its not an attempt to sway historical perception. I think I would have preferred they use fictional figure heads entirely. The result is more alienation as certain subject matter, names and political terms with current relevance causes alienation, the act of breaking immersion in order start questioning or viewing the subject matter. I dont think thats healthy for good game design.
I noticed some weird things with the shadows from watching gameplay footage, but it hasn't been distracting enough to bother most players. I wanted to watch and see if bobbing buildings cast proper shadows, but haven't seen it yet. I think overall the art direction and the amount of story telling done through the art and level design is amazing.
The society is based around jingoism movement and the nationalist movement.

I dont think most players would be cg artist, so it wouldnt be a surprise if many didnt notice these details or at least be conscious of why they exist or how they could be avoided.
Not sure Jingoism is or ever was a movement, rather than a description to explain certain policy and behavior. The nationalist movement is odd since Columbia seems to be more of a city than a nation. We can see nationalism in many countries which are aware of and take pride in their national identity. NAZI in germany was actually the short name for a political party and movement known as the national socialist workers party. In many ways I think that would tie more into the theme as it exists now. Its also tied to the early era progressive and prior fabian socialist movements.
If I am also not mistaken, Columbia as it exists in the game is pulling from the Chicago World Fair which also celebrating Christopher Columbus...which would give make sense considering the city's name is Columbia.
One final gripe... Because I'm in love with this game ATM too much to moan about it haha...
Whoever thought this save system was "ok" needs to really re-evaluate their role. This isn't even "ok" for a console. Why should I have to wait for half an hour before I can turn the game off? Some of us have lifes away from the game ffs... I was up waaay to late last night, not because I was glued to the game (Well, a bit) but because I was at a section where there was no save point for over 40 mins... That's not acceptable. Plus, one save game? ONE? This sort of shit shouldn't be an issue these days, its basic "Dos/donts".
Anybody figure out a way to turn off the lower mouse sensitivity when sprinting? I can see why that would work on a console but on PC it just feels odd can't wait to get home and put some more hours in, four days off... Bliss...
Finished it last night. It kept me up till 3am and I never stay up that late @_@ I found a pretty major glitch though, I was doing the final battle and I died just after destroying all the ships and the game teleported me to a section of the level where none of my controls would respond. Reloading the save kept putting me back there so thankfully there was a chapter select or I would have been angry :P
The ending was well written! My eyes literally opened wide when that slow-mo bit happened with the portal. Suddenly everything made sense
Stunning art, great combat, brilliant game. There's definitely some gaps I think need filling in the DLC but yeah clever writing.
P.S. : F**k the guy who thought it was amusing to put the "doctor appears behind you scare" from Bioshock 1 back in Infinite, caused me to yell out loud at 2am
Elizabeth just opened the tear so we could go find the living Mr Ling
and so far this game is absolutley fantastic. The cohesiveness of the world both in terms of art design and functionality is really something else, and the way the shear sense of volume to the light and fog/clouds just sucks you in is spectacular. I'm actually preferring it on my smaller 19" monitor than my 47" tv since being closer feels more "inside" the game.
I have noticed a few niggles that stand out and remind me I'm just playing a game though. Aside from some pretty obvious texture sems on mirrored objects - The big "work" clock on the elevator ride to Fink is awesome just as a concept, but then there's a huge seam down the middle of the hour hand. - I'm wondering though if this is due to having graphics set to Very High and not Ultra? There's A Lot of repeating npc faces, but I tend to only notice those if I remember. And the last thing that really gets me the most is constantly getting stuck on static objects that just should be static. I know adding physics adds to overhead, but can bottles and chairs really not be movable? Didn't we stop doing that in 2006?
Those things aside this is truly a fantastic game and anybody who doesn't have it already should get it. And now. Do Irrational favor and don't wait for a steam sale;)
The only reason it really bugs me is because I end up getting stuck on them. The chairs are only really a problem when Elizabeth is trying to move around me and we both get stuck for a moment (she can get into some pretty crazy-ass-janky-teleporting when she's standing in the wrong place for something as well. Yikes), but I find I'm constantly getting randomly stuck in place, only to look down and a find a bottle or other small debris:(
Aside from my autosave not loading the correct checkpoint upon Continue several times, it was a fantastic game. I spent a good deal of time just wondering off to every nook and cranny to take in the gorgeous art. Combat started feeling a little old after a while, but that's more of a nitpick as the story and wanting to explore more of the world kept me interested.
The part where you
had to defend the Command Deck from the Vox Populi zepplins with the aid of Songbird was a big pain in the ass though. Could have done without that bit.
Ending was sure interesting!
Loved the Rapture tie in!
Art direction-wise, the Bioshock games have always been some of my favorites. The way it draws you in to this lovingly crafted world certainly makes it an experience.

Sadly, I don't think this statement is true. There are too many games whose budget exploded far and beyond any ability to ever recoup it.

The retail copy comes on 3 dual layer DVDs, so the game is going to be over 18GB installed.
Hefty.
Negative spin skillz? hummm, sound good to me, bu i would call it Real Spin Powah
How are you able to finish so quickly? Is the game that short and easy to beat? I do hope that it's not short because it looks like a very good game.

Steam cloud also seems to be fucked with the PC version
Well done guys, it was worth the wait.
