BTW unless you are a SC/war3 pro player, have a weird system spec, or know someone at blizzard your odds are quite low. These are the people that will give them the best results from the beta. The pros to give us something to watch(free marketing) and will notice the gameplay balance issues the fastest. The weird system specs give them a base for how it will handle on those machines. The friends of employees playing increase the odds that the employees will play outside of work.

I think they're going a bit with the inviteroute now too, they let people invite people who they are likely to play with, so that more people test out the other modes and not just 1vs1, so becoming best friends with people who are already in the beta might ensure you a spot the next time they give everyone a friends-key.
Yeah I doubt I will get any beta without an invite. The crappy thing about invites is people who do have keys seems to be selling them, its beta come on..
I fit in non of the weird system spec, pro or have an inside hook up and i got in like in the second wave or something. I actually didnt even have SC1 on my blizzard account thing, just my non active wow account lol.
Im sure there is a lot of inviting like that but they also do random people too.
On serious note: Ya I havent got a beta key yet, nor I think they'll send an invite. Its 1 month left till the official release of the game so I might as well reserve a copy.
PS: I havent finished the StarCraft1 Broodwar so I doubt I'll enjoy anything for the first hour. =\

woot? release date set? nah, april 1st was a while ago man! I think Ive had abbout 70 games by now and Im digging it. :P
Still says 1st of May. It may be delayed but within May...I think.
PS: If anyone have gotten the friends invite for SC2 beta. Pass it on to me. It is my humble request. <.<
They still are doing some drastic balancing in the beta and they hope to release the editor and other ladders before the end of April, I don't think It'll launch may 1st. I'm just curious how they are making sure the campaign is still balanced with all these changes.
Yeah its region locked, I don't know if its just for the beta but they've talked about letting your play with friends from different region, I hope its just a issue with the beta servers.
I think its so you can get your name displayed the way you want instead of being dfacto4352 or some random crap added.
So there can be like dfacto.dfacto and someone else can have dfacto.someothername
May as well add my name Danastarim.moonkin US altho I do admit im a complete Starcraft noob. Got my ass kicked from being baited, when I should have known better from playing WC3.
Also to back up what SideEffect said. the double name is so that multiple people can choose the same name ie: "Bob.whatever" and not have to be Bob1 because someone already took the name Bob first.
So you could use the same account on every blizzard game without having to use the same name in every game. Oh well. What do i know. Haven't been allowed to fiddle around with the beta yet
Yes, but aren't you shown by the first name? So then you can have a game with two guys with the same name?
Oddly it just asked me to recreate my character and it says when you type the second name "this name is used as an identifer to distinguish your name from other players" So yes you are only shown by the first name to people who are not on your friends list. When adding a friend usin the Starcraft II name it asks you to enter the name AND the identifier name.
Looks awesome, Blizzard CE's are always amazing. I picked up the WotLK CE and it was worth it for the artbook and behind the scenes DVD alone I think.
Definitely excited about this one.
Particularly they bundle in a real artbook, none of this dvd size 20 page nonsense. I hope to get a pre-order, and not waiting for a midnight launch to get it -.-

Anyway... anyone wanna be my friend? :P

I've been playing the beta for a bit now, loving it. I was never really hardcore in SC1 but I had friends who were. I watched more SC1 than I played.
Yeah, really loving it. It's just great, the new additions are good and add a new dynamic to the game.:)
*punches the monitor screen!!!*

Snap son, I am in! Hit me up for an invite if your ego needs feeding. I suck at this game something awful.
What is the reason for the two name system btw, seems rather pointless.

No its whatever you want it to be.
