I still suck at StarCraft II so far. Got a little experience losing as a Zerg. It's just amazing how quickly most players can build up their armies.
I had a game in 2v2, we quickly killed his partner, then I decided I wanted to try to mass reapers, got 17 barracks because they took soooo long to build (expanded to 4 bases), it was pretty fun to just run past his cannon wall and blow up his nexus in 2 seconds.
Ha! I actually won once last night. It was 1vs1, I was Protoss, he was Zerg. He gave me far too much time to build up my base without harassing me. Then I started mass-producing stalkers and walked all over him.
Yeah haha that thing started out as an April Fool's joke and now its actually a serious deal. Pretty tough to get it though, the keys disappear in less than a second...
What speed is your connection now? 1 Mbps / 512 kbps, entry level DSL would suffice. I think even 512 / 512 would be enough.

It's weird though. My friend told me earlier that he got into the beta, so I checked my battle.net account out of curiosity. It said I had a license for Scarcraft 2 beta and gave me the download link and everything. I never received an email in spam or otherwise though.
Check your battle.net accounts to see if maybe you have a beta key sitting in there that you didn't know about!
I only opted in 2 weeks ago, so it probably wasn't sitting for long, but imagine if I had never checked!
Hey ZacD, what's the word on the Mod tool release for the Beta? I know it's probably not a priority for you Blizzard boys. But I would probably have a lot more fun with that than I am with the multiplayer. This isn't due to any major flaw with the multiplayer. I just suck at/ am a complete newb at it. And everything I've heard about the Mod tools / Level Editor has me salivating.
Oh yeah, I played way too much SCII last night. I discovered a new early-game rush strategy. If you're playing Protoss, and your oponent isn't quick enough on his feet, you can Proton-Cannon-rush him. I built a pylon just inside his initial base, and then just assembled proton cannons. I was able to destroy all of his early attacking units, and then just assembled pylons and proton cannons until his entire base was choked off.
Are the beta keys being sent out at random or are they focusing on a certain PC spec if you know what I mean?
I'm guessing they want to get feedback on a good range of systems rather than just those with high-end machines, but I'm paranoid that updating my beta profile with my new setup is preventing me from getting a key. Up until about a month ago my profile had a really crappy system on which they probably would've laughed at, but now with my new PC, it's more in line with the higher end of the scale but still no key!
I'm probably just searching for excuses though as I'm one of the 3 left on the planet without a key.
Oh man, I played way too much Starcraft II last week. I'm going to have to cut myself off this week so I can actually get some work done on my website. Multiplayer for this game is pretty addictive. They still have a lot of work to do on the match-making. I would think that ideal match-making would line the teams up to be as even as possible. I suppose part of it could just be that there hasn't been enough time for people to develop measurable records. But every game seems to be a complete blow-out one way or the other.
I was actually able to win a match as the Zerg. (who were my weakest species) Part of the secret to handling the Zerg is that you have to use the Queen's new abilities. The Queen unit in the first game was largely useless. In SCII, she is the difference between victory and defeat. Properly using her abilities allows you to produce units faster, without having to build a ton of hatcheries. This saves on resources, and lets you focus on the Zerg's real strength, which is overwhelming your opponent with lots of units.

It might not be a problem with you. They just yesterday reset the ladders and databases, which gets rid of all of your friends, your standing and your profile info; for everyone. Although, not being your account sounds kind of strange.
Extremely excited for this upcoming patch with the map editor.:)
I only made Bronze league in 1v1 but I wasn't in a bad division and I wasn't placed too far down. I was 3-2 after my placement matches but now I have to do them over again. Continually getting better so hopefully I can move up. Got to silver in 2v2 with a good partner.
A friend of mine who is a platinum 2v2 player purposefully sabotaged his 1v1 placement matches so that he can play in copper and steamroll noobs, lol.
BTW, sc2mapster.com is a great site for getting a jump on all this editor stuff.
If you look at the SC1 map editor you will see no difference, except its in 2d and this one is in 3d.
Its the same concept. I cant find that part anywhere, where they said that they are going to allow people to import the custom buildings and characters and so on. =\
Some dude imported WOW models and textures into the game without any in-house tools. True, all blizzard assets but still kinda cool. Think of the near limitless ammount of resources fantasy mods will have once all these assets and animations from WoW are ported over:
Also the main site has a few videos being updated regularly throughout the night. Right now they all kinda blow though, just some dude poppin' stuff down on the ground.
Well, only way to find out...believe Crazyfinger with this image as a proof or wait for collectors edition....
Actually I do believe you guys that you can import the models in to the SC2 mapeditor because there is also a wow model viewer and editor and I see many mods online for wow modeling and all...
Blizzard has actually directly stated recently that premium content will almost require custom assets. At this point it's just a given that importing assets will be possible. Though i can see why they wouldn't want to host tons and tons of trash models and assets for the thousands of free mods that are sure to pop up. We'll see how they handle it, but custom assets are a given at this point to some degree.
Its only Beta, when the game releases, obviously lots of content will be added to the Galaxy Editor as well most probably a GUI update.
Also, for anyone who doesn't have a key yet and still wants one, you can get one automatically with a pre-order at GameStop. Some GameStop locations may have run out so you might want to call in advance and make sure they have some left!
As far as that bug I previously mentioned goes, me and a few of my friends can't even log in anymore... so its pretty bad, can't wait for the patch and REAL reset :P

I'm not sure that they are releasing the map editor with the new patch either. Did you actually read that anywhere?
