They didn't just ask for festive items to be contributed. They asked for them to be contributed by the 1st of December! If we were to wait to work on festive items in December as this salty Banana would have us do then we would only have one day to complete them!
Before I switched to xmas items mode I wanted to finish this item Rada and I are working on... comments? or looks ready to submit? name suggestions?? :P
So I noticed this Christmas fever and found out Valve actually asked for some Christmas stuff so I'm doing the most cliche'd thing ever.
A Christmas Wraithe.
A Christmas wraith? Hmm...
Oh, you mean like one of those ghosts from A Christmas Carol. :poly142:
Seriously though, I'm impressed to see so much good stuff and ideas being thrown around here. So I figure, why not throw one of my own out there:
Toy Soldier Pauldrons for Soldier, to match the Stout Shako.
Textures not final, showing off in-game compilation with normal map applied. Thoughts? Any preference as far as the socks go?
I like it! Maybe you could bend that red thing with yellow bullets a little(or whatever it's called lol).. it just seems too sharp or linear atm..but looking great so far.
I had a similar idea doing this type of hat :poly136:(yeah, so original)
I think you could make the bow look a little nicer. Make the loops quite a bit larger and extend the loose parts down with a bit of an arc in them. giving them a slightly shiny satin finish would also be good.
I'd also make the holly leaves larger and make the berries red on both versions.
EDIT:Looks like they've updated workshop page. There's now a report button, an accepted in the game section and the latest submissions section appears to be actually showing the latest submissions instead of just being completely random.
Much better Ronin. I see you removed the spikes. Good call.
I'd make the back section of the hood slightly bigger to suggest it can fold over his head. Add some jiggle to the tassels and sort out the seam on the sleeves and you got yourself a strong item.

Yeah that's the intention too. Also make the how hood go over the solly's head as a style.
Anyway has anyone tried a picture frame hat? You know, like the guys head popping through a painting of a horse and his head has burst through the ass.

I think if there was a large enough one to show an actual image that'd make sense, it'd collide with the rest of the character's geometry in some poses/animations. (or weapon, as would be the case with Soldier)
I'd like to do this with an environment map but I'd like advice on the best way to approach this and keep it looking good AND TF2-ish. (It's supposed to be refined metal)
I'm totally dislexic so major QC or other text parsing is slow going for me, but I'm working on it. Any pointers to better and accurate tutorials would be much appreciated. (I've wasted a decent amount of time with dated tutorials that use old file structure and I'm not code-wise enough to just make it work)
Working on the wreath is taking its toll so I thought I'd do something simpler to keep me awake. I got the idea when I was messing with jiggle bones and saw the springy one.
Obviously it will have a white rim, but this is just a very basic blocking out and positioning to get a feel of the item itself. Planning to have two styles, "Naughty," filling it with coal, and "Nice," filling it with metal and a new wrench with a pretty bow or something.
I wish there was a bip_pouch bodygroup, because getting this to look right while covering the pouch itself and making sure it doesn't clip is gonna be a pain. But no pain no gain, right?
Me and Passerby sat down and did some work on the Hellhound. Which is to say, I sort of milled about while Passerby pimped out my model and made an awesome unwrap for it.
I did some texture for it, which we're still working on. No shaders applied yet and the smoothing glitched out when it was compiled, but here's some in-games of the texture and new model.
Also, on the reload animation, we have moving bullets (Yay! A gun that doesn't just swing its cylinder out and smack the Spy in the face!) and are planning to have the pivot and bolt swing out with it, like on a real revolver.
Nice job Ronin! It seems pretty well rigged but I get the feeling it should have white fur in the lower piece of the coat. A golden bucckle for the belt would look good too. It would be neat if you did a pair of fur boots too. (now I realize the opened space where you can see the t-shirt looks kind of weird)
You can even consider replacing the grenades (I don't know if you want a christmas look or an artic coat look)

I'll consider all these suggestions. Probably the belt buckle would be great. I know it would look terrific if it had fur on the middle of the coat and on the boots, but this would slightly make it less "all-season"-ie. I'll think about it.
I'm looking at doing an item that's effectively a retexture of the spy balaclava. I'm assuming that it'd be most efficient to do an entire head replacement. Is such a thing possible with the Spy or is that option currently only implemented on the Pyro?
EDIT: That's not going to work, is it, because of the morph target business. Hmm.
There will be an inevitable surge of cosmetic hat and misc slot submissions, but weapons will probably be largely ignored as in the Halloween update.
So as a challenge to myself, I'm going to design and make one new primary weapon, with a holiday theme incorporated into the design, for each class.
Similar to the Crusader's Crossbow, a candy-cane launching for the medic.
A Pyro flare-gun replacement for the Christmas season! This is part 1 or 3 items I'm making for Pyro, including a North Pole signpost as a melee weapon!
Still WIP .
Cork Gun Exploding Bauble Launcher... new name suggestions please

BUT IT'S THE COUNTDOWN TO THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS!
Eh, they asked for festive items to be contributed specifically, so I think all's fair.

I'm also working on a Crowder hat, but differently:
(horns are unfinished)
I'm thinking about making the koalarug as well, but I'm afraid it would clip badly with the arrows on his back
Awh yeah.

I was actually going to PM you for that guy's Workshop profile but thanks for posting it here. I've reported him good sir.

all class shot of my holiday hat
either jiggled like a crackhead or not enough, just past not enough is OH HEY I'M A MILE AWAY LOL
Here's my latest revision of the Gold MANN-Sax:
It's 878 polys.

Feedback is welcome too since it's still a WIP.
Best & TIA

You should keep trying. It can be done right with just enough messing with the settings and a decent bone rig.

A festive holiday delight. Or something like that.
First time submit/ please don't be too harsh lol

I love this especially hard.
The Winter Wrap Up
"Dear Mom,
Stop sending me sweaters, the other mercs are laughing at me.
Love
Scout
P.S - I have sent portions of the sweater back along with this letter"

I love it.
You can always look at how other items have their jigglebones with the jigglebone decompiler
@D-D-D-Demon! - it's looking good

Cork Gun Exploding Bauble Launcher... new name suggestions please
Hehe, I thought someone might beat me to it, so I got modelling on my lunch break at work yesterday!
I can always change it for exploding corks, don't want to tread on anyone's toes , theres enough ideas around for all!
Exploding cracker launcher?!
