MAXIMUS !!
i was in the colosseum one week ago hehe :poly124:
good job !
Well, early test for the coffe pot, not sure the way he should handle it (fingers aren't in position yet) Second one seems more natural to me, to throw it with force and dexterity.
Wow guys these are all coming out great. Scudz I really hope that the Gladiator Helmet gets accepted. The brain jar also looks amazing. Whats the poly count on that so far? Heres an update for my Robin Hood Hat. I cant seem to get the texture down. Also the alpha transparency inst work as well. Ive tried saving as png and targa in all the different sizes. Nothing works.

2 looks better fer sure, but wouldn't he burn his hand holding it that way?
also uploaded the Madman, and working on Cranial texturing
Firstly, I agree that holding it that way would imply that he is either burning himself, or the coffee is cold.
Secondly, I know this is probably too late but...
Do you think you could try your Madman hair in a gray/white color more similar to medic's original hair?
Perhaps just texture the bottom part of your madman hair to fit in with Medic's sideburns and gradually change to the white-ish color you have now?
How is it that making hats, of all things, can be so damn addictive?
because:
and thats really awesome!
Simski: I was thinking about that when I started it but I'm just so used to seeing mad scientists/doctors with all white Einstein hair that I didn't think it would work. If it doesn't get accepted I'll try it for Madman MKII.
new bolts, updated tex, its maya so it's all one smooth group (right?) but the bolts have hard edges, it just doesn't show up so well at that scale i think
That brain could use a little more geo and maybe push up the contrast on it's texture, it feels like it needs more substance, like it is an afterthought to the rest of the hat. The glass also seems somewhat tall for the amount of brain in there. Maybe if the brain was floating in the jar, like not anchored to his head?
I thought so too at first glance, it is after all known for it's usage by mischievous kids :O
Scudz: Could you make is so the substance around the brain is team colored?
I just like the idea of the substance being pink, like often portrayed in movies showing human body parts in jars.
i think the bolts are fine. The screw detail in your example would most likely get lost in game being so small. I'd say crank some more detail into the brain instead of the bolts. If you could include some animation for it to have the brain pulse a bit would be pretty spiffy.
New hats are out! Looks like a bunch of polycounter's hats got chosen again!
I instantly recognize the engineer's headset, soldier's drill sergeant hat, pyro's helmet, and the medic's goggles! The medic's goggles were from before the first batch of community hats, too, so I guess if anyone made one and it didn't get chosen (like me ), there's still a chance for future updates

How does one go about making a weapon? Do you have to think of the gameplay implications and everything or do you just make a random model to which they'll assign habilities of their own?

I think you can suggest what you want the weapon to be used for.
You can model something based on a gameplay idea, and as you submit it to Valve you suggest what it would do if Valve implements it.
You can also just model something random that you think would be cool in the game, submit it, and then let Valve decide what it will do.
Valve does however decide themselves what they think is a good usage for your contribution, so they will of course take your idea of how it should be as a "suggestion" and not a demand if they implement it.
You know, I wouldn't even know; I just wanted the pencil and blueprint, and struggled to find a hat until I realised that the Engineer's outfit is actually a bit like Mario's, so I went with that hat.
Oh, and congratulations to all of you who got their hats in; I'd love to find one of them .

It's an old Swedish kids show, so the language might confuse you quite a bit.
It was a pretty good show, but the artstyle scared the fuck out of a lot of kids such as myself at that age :P
Anyway, the guy in the blue Mechanic's outfit is wearing the cap I am referring to.
Oh my god! I loved Skrotnisse when I was a kid. The noir characters and depressing environments are so rad. They should totally make a game out of it. I'd buy the collectors' if they do! But yeah, I guess they messed up another generation with it just as they did with Vilse i Pannkakan.
Finally got the EX41 in-game.
And wow, lots of new great stuff since last I checked in. Beautiful work people!
Edit:// Oh, and not to forget; On the 2nd. screenshot, it looks like the weapon is huge. It's not, I just didn't bother resize the screenshot to fit the border and everything. It looks normal in-game!
I think I should really do a hat. It seems like a lot more hats are getting in, or that the weapons are taking longer due to animating and balancing. My time is limited but as soon as I get an idea I'll give it a try.
Swizzle: Love that rugby cap! looks great.
Zwebbie: That reminds me a lot of Mario's hat. Add a white circle with an R or B in it; maybe an E.
Didn't expect they would put another item ingame if you have allready had one made official :poly101:
I made the Sergeant's Drill Hat (and Physician's Procedure Mask from the first Community Update)
edit: finally found out how to get high res textures in hlmv (not this screen though)
Replies
Finished up the Hi for the gun, any c&c appreciated.
EDIT:
Went back and played with the proportions some to try and achieve a more tf feel.
Thanks for the enlightenment skudz.
(looks like I accidently warped the mag tube :poly141:.)
Finals for Grimm General submission

DKK: bugger.
Yeah, I was doing the same last night and I was kicking myself. Oh well.

Should be able to use the same animation for the bow.
i just started using Modo, and i have some noob questions
how can i make the glasses transparent, and how can i add jiggle bone in my hat?
Nice.

Oh LAWDY
I lack of coffee pot here
aaannnnd....
winnar !!
It has sparkles on it
Zwebbie: Is that a Mechanic's cap :O?
I'm not the best at recognicing everything so I wanted to make sure before I suggest a name for it.
I don't dare to look at ppl reactions though
Just avoid the Steam Forums and you should be able to avoid angry people spewing profanitites at you.
People there are always angry :shifty:
Other than that I don't think you have much to worry about :O
..just a few more touch ups..
Gonna do a weapon and hat for Pyro next.
Congrats to the latest round of hat entries that got in.
valve should just fund this thread for a month and come back later..=)
then find a weapon which can fit the animations and "grips"
the designers work out the stats... just give em something to "work with"

Oh and...
Ant, that slingshot is AWESOME.
They put mine in too, W00t!
I think I may make a Ze proton pack now...
Oh, and congratulations to all of you who got their hats in; I'd love to find one of them .
Been meaning to make one but i cant think of a single good idea xD might have a go at thinking of something tonight, possibly.
