We just thought we would load up a high resolution image from 3D World mentioning that the University of Hertfordshire is one of the best places to learn Animation in the world. It was a very nice surprise for us to be pitched next to such great schools.
I’ve had a look through the thread but I haven’t been able to find much information about the master / scholarship you mentioned. I’m a recent graduate from a games art course and I’m interested in continuing my education through to a masters. Would you be able to tell me a bit more about what you provide in these areas?

And here is some more news and awards for 2011-12:
• The course was listed as one of the 20 best Animation Colleges in the World by 3DWorld magazine (April 2012)
• Brush With a Bee shortlisted for the Virgin Media Shorts Award 2012 (fourth time for us, we are the only UK uni to achieve this, and it's the biggest prize for short films / animation in the UK - £30,000) only recently found out we didn't win, we'll try again next year.
• InaniMate selected by the British Council to be part of FILMCLUB; a selection of films that are sent to 7000 schools across the UK and abroad to be shown in school film clubs for 4 -11 year olds.
• Still Falls the Rain - shortlisted at Shnit International Short Film Fest
• Still Falls the Rain - shortlisted at Ruby Mountain Film Festival
• Still Falls the Rain - shortlisted at Phenom Film Fest
• Still Falls the Rain - Win at American International Film Festival, Student categories 'Best Film', 'Best Director', 'Best Cinematography', 'Best Score'.
• InaniMate shortlisted at British Film Institute - Future Film Festival
• Adrift shortlisted at British Film Institute - Future Film Festival
• InaniMate, Adrift, Evol, World War and Veni Vidi Vici screened at FestiWebTélé in Quebec in September
• Internships
• One of our students won a one year internship with Disney Interactive London.
• Three students had internships at Framestore in the Summer
• And another had an internship at MPC
Not bad for a course only a few years old I will load up the films soon.
You seriously need to do distance learning degrees/masters. I would LOVE to study with you guys to further my skills a bit but there's no way an old fart like me can afford to leave a full time job and be a student again.
yep. Hertfordshire ended up on my list of unis, until I discovered there's no online option, so I didn't look into it any further, even though I keep hearing good things (and I love that you guys seek out Polycount!).
I tried Academy of Art and SCAD - not only were they freakishly expensive, they also didn't like my nationally accredited US bachelor from AiFL (thank you fxxked up US education system!) and acted as if they really could care less about me.
Having a non-US online masters from a high quality school would be a great thing imho. Especially since there's tons of great artists out there who may have skills and work experience but not, from a US point of view, the right degree or not the gazillions of money places like SCAD ask for.
I'm now studying Software Engineering at Liverpool online though- good thing I'm a tech artist. But it's also great that compared to US unis it's ridiculously cheap.
Showreel for Alex Jerjomin, give him an email before he gets snapped up, this is his Pre Christmas hand in and with another month to add polish to it, well need I say any more...
This guy is ready for work, I will be posting lots more student work soon once all the marking is finished also trying to finish my own MA at the moment.
This was a level 2 Christmas project. Chose a building from around the Blackfriars area of London that is from the Victorian era 1837 to 1901 or earlier and import it into the UDK engine. The boundary location was set in the image below.
I also told them to use GOOGLE EARTH to do some field research and help them to find a building that they would like to create before they took the train down to London to do a little field trip
Examples of some of the buildings around the area I just found on GOOGLE EARTH
LittleClaude asked me to post up some of the modular asset work recently completed. Here are 2 shots. the scene uses 1 2k map and 2 1k's. Hope it's not too rough around the edges!
Quick Follow up for the texture maps i used. I use 1x 1024 Diffuse and 1 x 1024 Normal, 5 x 512 Diffuse Map, 5 x 512 Normal Map and 1 x 512 Specular map
You right the Canadian games scene is rocking. We would love to set something up with you guys. Didn't William Shatner study there?
Which University do Canadian's go to study 3D/Games Art?
Looks like a cool place to study!
Not many....quite a few have closed. All that's left is Centre Nad which charges an arm and a leg, also it's only available in French. There is Lasale College, I heard a lot of horror stories coming from there.
Dawson College did have Game and Game Art programs. It was great because it was linked to Ubisoft. I think they have stopped it because it's not on their site anymore.
What about Vancouver? that's another great hub of games activity. I would be happy to come over on research leave an set something up with an interested University.
With all the development kicking of due to the new games consoles coming out this year (maybe - wait for E3 ) there is going to be a huge surge of next gen literate creatives needed all over the world. We can't feed the London film and games scene quick enough with good quality graduates.

I don't know about Vancouver because I'm not from there. I'd prefer to have one in Montreal because I don't want to move. It would be awesome to have one in Montreal and for it to be a year or a year and a half.
Thank you UH Alumni Harry Geoghegan and Marcus White, glad to see you are doing so well. Maya users will like this tech video.
Blitz Games Studios recently demonstrated cutting edge 3D technology in Maya on behalf of Autodesk. They have made some great tools so I thought I would share the video.
On the University of Hertfordshires website it says an art related subject at A level is required, "280 points from GCE A Levels (or equivalent) including a qualification in an art related subject". What happens if they don't have an art related qualification? Is it still possible for them to enter the course?
I will have a look at the art work if you want to email it to me?
Yes we look to see if the students have at least done GCSE Art (preferably A-level or BTEC art of some kind too) - if they haven't studied any art related subjects at all they almost always cannot draw. We could interview them as they don't need an art qualification to get in, but they do need art skills... if you think about it, when was the last time a student had enough time to do art work without having it as a qualification.
A student might get rejected by our automatic filter if they don't have an art subject; in which case they get told to send me an email with their work if they think they are really good (this is rare, students usually send me a pile of mediocre art work and I politely tell them to join a foundation course for a year and come back). There is normally a little bit of to and to-and-fro at this point. The ones that go and do a foundation course normally 95% of the time come back with hard core portfolios, again there area few foundation courses that don't have life drawing so check before you go.
The filter is there to prevent us from having to interview thousands of applicants, this year we are at around 760, we are interviewing like crazy every Friday, 5-6 Lecturer staff 15 minutes each student. and there is 50 places and 20 places on top for exceptional students.
If you are a student that has not studied any art related subjects then please post on our student forum and PM me a link ASAP so we can give you feedback and maybe an interview, good luck. - www.3dhit.co.uk
@littleclaude: Not trying to hijack your thread at all, but I'm curious if you've received any of my emails. I havent heard back from you in a few weeks.
@littleclaude, not sure if you tried calling me yet or not, my phone situation is a little strange, might be easier to email me, chris_legasse( at ) yahoo.com
The University Of Hertfordshire has received full Skillset accreditation.
University Of Hertfordshire Ba(Hons) 3D Animation
University Of Hertfordshire Ba(Hons) 2D Animation
University Of Hertfordshire Ba(Hons) Games Art
To say that we are proud of this achievement is an understatement. To gain such a high recognition for all of our programmes is down to the hard work and dedication of the Staff, the enthusiasm and quality of our Students, and the support of our amazing Alumni.
Its worth mentioning the the Ba(Hons) Visual Effects was mentioned that if they were accrediting these types of courses yet, it would pass without a doubt and we are working with them to set it up for the future.
