gibson: im curious to see what you thought i look like haha
Bishop: my plugs are at 3/4 of an inch, so that may be just a tad bigger than they really are, but yes they are pretty close to that size :P ill probably show some reference pictures once i get a bit further
Lourve attendants were asked to draw their own representations of the Venus De Milo if she had an arm/arms. I've been asked to interpret these drawings into 3d sculpts. The whole project is for an exhibition in London, more info can be found on Pauls blog.
Gary Riley - a friend of mine is also helping me out with the sketches, one of his can also be seen on the blog. We've got 6 drawings to interpret, a replica of the Venus and our own interpretations to do. Crazy small deadline so we are powering through them. These 3 are all wips with cleaning and basic texturing to do. Mudbox shots:
@Massbot: that's a some great Venuses, my favourite is on the right ;D the armour/robot is very unique. The two stone women have strange looking upper arms though
Wow, unbelievable. That is all I can say about the stuff that I have seen in this thread. The whole bunch of you are very talented.
I myself.. not so much. Been trying 3DS Max for years on end and I still can not do anything proper. I tried ZBrush and Maya as well. I suppose I'm not an artsy person.. however I feel that it is necessary that I learn it, at least prop modeling. My main focus is bad programming at the moment but I aim to become an "Artistic programmer" so I can create my own assets. But.. that's rather far away.
At least I can enjoy viewing the pretty stuff that you fine ladies and gentlemen make.

Hello all, I thought I would put up my first gun assignment and get some feedback. It is still in the works but far enough along to get a good idea of the final direction. The gun was supposed to be low poly and mine came in around 900. It was based primarily on a NERF gun but I made some of my own aesthetic changes.

- - The diffuse and spec maps are only half finished and are currently giving me a hard time. Ive just blotched some white stuff in where I want to eventually add scratches. Anyone know where to go for a good base material for gun metal?

- - Ive had some fun with the normal map though it still needs to be cleaned up in spots and my high poly had problems. That said my favorite part so far is up near the front of the gun where I created extra planer geometry only using the normal map and thus avoiding a ton of extra polys.

- - Any suggestions for a better over-all color scheme, Im not sure my current green thing is working.

Thanks for any comments and great work to everyone else who has been posting here. I have been learning a lot just by looking at your work.

@ferg, I'm actually not so sure i like the colors, they seem too fun and playful for a dude that has shit growing out of his skin that is also screaming
I really like that thing moof... the proportions and weight of it are especially ace
snarg: thanks man, and thanks for the next-page-bump
gibson: heh, yeah, I guess I was aiming for a little bit of irony or something there... juxtaposition?
Got a little more cleanup to do, and I have to finish the hair and back side of the whole thing to enter it in the comp... but I think I've taken it as far as it can go for the most part.
edit: here's a somewhat different render... who wants a tshirt?
For some reason I thought the rocks were gemstones type rocks or something.
I know you said you're done with it, but maybe in the future, try some shaders that will make each color reflect like gemstones? cuz I think that may look AWESOME!!!

...next is rigging and skinning.
Imo his crotch looks a bit high to me. Did a quick warp to show my two cents. I maybe wrong, but it's just what stuck out to me.

Original, eye-catching and disturbing in equal measure. Couldn't stop looking at this.
Love the colour scheme and the rough quality of the sculpting looks great as is.

zack> thanks, I feel pretty happy with how this stuff is turning out, thanks for the encouraging words
jesse> I'd suggest starting with http://cgtextures.com/ when you need quick resources for textures.
