My second gripe is actually the whole down-leveling thing when you go back to a low level area. It has always been a great joy of mine to go back through low level areas with a high level character and get to places more easily, just one-shotting whatever I run across. I understand the free roaming aspect requires something in place to make sure I don't go steal every mob from low level characters, but it still kind of takes me out of the experience. It's like, "So...why am I suddenly puny, just because I went back to this town?"
I'm sure I'll get used to that, though.
I wouldn't worry about that too much. While you loose some stats when getting downleveled you keep your additional skills and gear quality apparently doesn't get reduced so you are pretty much +1 of the zone level with gear thats far better than anything that would be available to people normally progressing through that zone. Most normal mobs will be onehit, veterans should barely pose a challenge and just champions might require some help from others.
On the issue of people making that much money on the bwe - everyone wanted to try crafting without concern for saving money for later as it all gets wiped anyway and as such ridiculous prices were paid for crafting mats. That is something that will not very likely happen on release as people will/should be more concerned with saving their hard earned cash for higher lvl skillbooks and such and probably won't spend their money as easily.
Not to say that people won't be making money using the AH excessively, but knowing that stuff gets deleted anyway makes people much more likely to experiment and pay high prices for things they normally would not just to get those 2 extra crafting points to reach the next tier.
Going to go into leather working, make myself some bags and horde crafting materials during the head start. Then i'll sell em all during the official public release.
"We will be conducting a stress test on Thursday, August 2 from 12:00 Noon PACIFIC Time to 4:00 PM PACIFIC Time.
Unlike previous stress tests, we will be actively working on the game during the event, so you might experience connectivity problems or discover features that are not working as designed.
Any issues you experience are a result of the rigorous conditions of the stress test, and are in no way representative of the state of the game at launch. By participating in this stress test, you’re helping us make Guild Wars 2 a better game. Thanks for your cooperation—we’ll see you in-game! ~RB2"
With less than a week left until release, I figured people might want to figure out which servers to play on. Here's a poll site that's taking into account playstyles and whether you're going to be casual or hxc. Looks like right now Yak's Bend is going to be the most popular for US PvE. It'd suck to not be able to play with friends because of server population. CHOOSE WISELY!
from 5/30 to 18/30 and counting in less than a week got sorrows furnace final assault war in kryta final mission and then fssure of woe and im at 25 and done. damn HOM
I'm going to be on Fort Aspenwood with some of the CGTalk TF2 folks. Should be good fun; the regular TF2 games are host to some good shenanigans and so was the last beta weekend.
That sounds like a neat idea, although it will be a problem if multiple people want to do WvWvW, then it's a better idea if people are on the same server.
So, for those of you who have played this. How is it different than other MMOs? I would preferrably like an answer from someone who has played more than just WoW.
The public quests thing isnt exactly new. So im just wondering what is different in this one.
If you've played games like Warhammer: Online and Dark Age of Camelot you'll definitely feel at home. The endgame raids and pvp aren't gauged on gear, rather on how effectively you play your character. You only can have 10 skills active at a time, 5 of which are dependent on your active weapons. The other 5 you unlock slowly as you level up. There's also a trait system that allows you to further specialize your character build.
On the surface, the game is very easy to get in to, but there's a ton of depth so far; you just have to do a little digging.

Already mentioned it but just in case there's anyone who didn't know, am trying to start a PC guild with some friends on the server Piken Square EU (already have a few people coming along.) Feel free to join us Only one day left!
EDIT: Forgot to say my GW tag is Torch.3504, or just drop me a pm on here if interested. Cheers
im not really looking to actually play on the same server, but more for an official glorified polycount chat inside gw2
Im not really sure on this, because guildtags are not unique, but I believe that guildnames actually are so having the actual polycount guild with the proper name be the official one would be kinda neat.

You need to give them your character name I think. I tried adding a friend with their tag and it didn't work.
5 and 1/2 hours till irresponsibility kicks in. Its one of those things where you look forward to and dread at the same time. Excited to play a highly enjoyable game, dreading the time spent which equals out to neglecting other aspects in life...
Anyways...have to love those Asura walk/run/jump animations.
oh i'm not having a go or anything, even with this it's still a far smoother launch (in my opinion) than many other recent games, like SWTOR or Diablo 3.
servers seem to be completely down now, I hope they fix it soon... one might think they would have "prepared" for the launch by buying extra server space. 'parently blizzard's debacle didn't teach anyone anything

*Taps fingers on desk in wait*
I never really used any ingame money besides either buy stuff off the AH or buying crafting kits from NPCs
For Thursday August 2.
