Tully (Laurel Austin) has been doing a great job creating some fantastic concepts for the characters so she has had a very big hand in them.
We have a very solid team here and the character art is turning out to be a lot of fun to work on.
also is anyone else getting a mirrors edge vibe somewhat from the environments in the screens? i loved mirrors edge!
It's like a post-utopian apocalypse vibe, which seems to be in line with that initial teaser. Very cool look. The characters have a youthful style that reminds me of certain European illustrators/comic books.
virtual texturing is like a cross between hardware texture compression and streaming. It's been around for a while, and one up and coming implementation is id software's 'Megatexture'
Since they're not calling it Megatexture, i'm guessing it's a homegrown implementation, cuz they've got some smart dudes there with a lot of hands on experience with early versions of Megatexture.
The 'SMART' button technology reminds me of those Staples commercials... but it could be awesome if it makes the game more intuitive while simultaneously pulling off all those Mirror's Edge moves i gave up on.
On one side, the whole, click somewhere and your character runs to it and dodges and jumps over stuff on it's own sounds lame because I'd rather do all that myself, however, I can see it being kinda cool since it lets you concentrate on shooting as you run out a difficult path. I guess it's similar to turning it into a rail shoot temporarily? I might like it? dunno
Well, one of the things about COD4/5 was they way the playerview animated when you hopped over obstacles. It's a little thing, but it struck me as really neat and immersive when it happened. Climbing up ladders in most FPS's is really awkward and i would trade control at that moment for stylized animation.
anyone at SD know if you'll be releasing any gameplay footage? i know theres alot of previews up of the game and you guys were demoing it. so theres gotta be some gameplay footage coming right?
I like everything you guys are doing with color and lighting, I love the style and it looks like its going to be fun. But please don't release it just yet, continue to tease me with amazing art.
Do you know who did the concept art for stuff like the train station on the first page? I'd love to see more of their stuff.
I'm not sure if its the same guy but http://caladerart.com/ has worked on Brink as a concept artist. Even if its not he has some amazing stuff worth checking out.
who was the voice actor doing the narration? He sounds insanely familiar...I want to say he may have been in Doomsday or 28 Days/Weeks later or something?
Fearian: Yeah, the train station from the first page was Georgi's, Vig posted the link to his site, www.caladerart.com . He does most of our vehicles and environment concepts, although a couple of the environments on the first page were Laurel's.

is that like fake textures that emulate real textures??
oh yeah... it looks awesomely amazing
PS, are you guys using some kind of skin shader? cause the skin on the characters looks top notch!

Congrats dude. This is hands down the best looking game of the show. (Splinter Cell, Trico and AC2 were nice runner-ups).
btw, the anatomy of the arms and hands on the screenshot above looks wierd.

E: This stuff about the garbage texture creation is great! It's like an IRL version of this:
