This model is my first real low-poly model. If I was to call this done, Id give myself a C- personally. I just started with the maps tho, hopefully I can fix up some of it with some good old photoshop lovin. Screen shots from Max with 2048 maps (diff, norm and spec) Would love to hear any crits.
You should definately make the front wheel rounder, with the yellow 'background' theyre a real eyecatcher. With 32 polies you could make the wheels twice as round, I cant do a paintover right now tho . Also, somethinbg doesnt really feel right with the scale of the seat and/or the steering wheel. Either make the seat bigger or the wheel smaller(or a little bit of both). Looks pretty damn good for a first low poly

thanks for the crit! I agree the wheels are WAY too low poly - I actually think the wheels are the worst part of the model at this point. You might be right about the seat scale... I think its close, but Ive been staring at it for so long I cant really tell anymore. This is what I used as a reference image:
It would be amazing if you could do a paintover at some point - Id love to see what you come up with!

Your steering wheel has more subdivisions than your big wheels, you should change this Make your steering wheel and the bolts on the wheel caps a bit smaller, that will help fit it the scale of the seat and make it look larger. You could also add a warning/instructional sticker to the side for scale - those things are usually about 6" or so, so it'll help sell the scale a bit more. Ad some more wear at the top of the little step on the body, where people would be kicking it each time. move the steering wheel a bit closer, too, that and scaling it will help fit the seat better. The proportions look a bit goofy in your ref, so you kind of need to correct for that in your model and provide internal scale references so it reads better.
Overall your texture is looking a little muddy, not sure if thats a resolution, WIP, unwrap, or other issue. sharpen filter it a bit and see if it pops.
@ renaud - that is awesome man, Can't wait to see it finished!
Here is a model I started a day or two ago, the concept for the char was done by a good friend of mine, Shaun Bryant. Still a bunch of sculpting left to do, and one of his arms is also interchangeable for a mini gun :poly124:
Been anticipating DW, so did some quick modeling in max for practice.
some speed crates based off some some good old Paul Richards concepts. Good estimate of time would be around 12hrs, Give or take.
alright, there's still a ton I want to do with this, so it's not going to P&P just yet, and it's certainly not something for the sketchbook, so here goes:
been sitting around that state for a couple weeks, haven't had time to return to it, and will probably wait until after DW to finish, but I wanted to show it off a little.
