The following requires suspension of disbelief for all who understand how a gun works. The design is from an anime. I did it on a whim to practice speed and technique, and it took about 15 hours. I did the high poly, low, uv-mapping and texturing. 1539 Tris, and 512^2 Diffuse + Normal maps.
Looks real nice dude, the one thing i would say is that your lighter metal should be darker in the diffuse, so you can push the reflection contrast more than the diffuse contrast. As that is why that material would be brighter, because it is more reflective right? A brighter diffuse there would tend to describe another section of painted metal, but just painted with a brighter colored paint, moreso than a more reflective material.
To me here, this exposed material is much brighter because it reflects a lot more light, and the painted black metal is a matte surface. So doing more work in the spec not only makes sense, but you'll get a more dynamic material out of it, as the contrast range in the exposed metal is higher.

The engravings were textured in, using a basic brush with the fill set to invisible and a stroke effect applied, then run through height2normals and composited onto the baked normal map.

Go the the motion tab, expand the Assign Controller rollout. Click Position, and then the add controller button. Pick path constraint. Add your path to the target box, and animate the '% Along Path' value.

No, you are thinking of the caster. That gun has a longer barrel. This particular firearm is from My Hime. It is used as a pair by one of the protagonists.

Ahah, the sadder thing is that I respect you for this knowledge. I was pretty sure it wasn't, but I was also unsure. I remember the caster, but I guess I remembered him obtaining another weapon later on. Suppose I was wrong. Thanks for clarifying.

A guy named Arbuz did a exporter. It creates physics files, .gmf and all other stuff which is needed right out of 3dmax.
Only every LoD has to be exported by hand.
I think material creation is a bit tricky and you have to be a coder to get all the features. But its nice for the stuff I do with the Engine like viz stuff.
ghost in a shell, ninja scroll, akira, fist of the north star, wings of honneamise, flcl, mindgame, all the other miyazaki movies except this moving castle thing that looked nice but sucked somehow and earthsea, terrible. and maybe something funny like.. i don't know shinchan or golden boy.

I think you should darken his back left leg, because at the moment it all seems about the same shade and my eyes get kind of confused looking at him.
