Obama has some Big shoes to fill and a lagacy to live up to. Bush did a great job. I hope Obama lives up to the same expectations Bush lived up to so well.
Are we allowed to say 'Barack Hussein Obama' now? And when will it enter the firefox spell checker dictionary (hussein is the only word of his name it doesn't error on).

why? why not just refer to him the way we do almost every other president? [Obama will do, yes?]
Obama has some Big shoes to fill and a lagacy to live up to. Bush did a great job. I hope Obama lives up to the same expectations Bush lived up to so well.
Cody: We say 'William Jefferson Clinton' and 'George W. Bush'... I just asked if we're allowed to say it, that's all.
Word, I'm just saying in usual day to day people usually just use the last name. I see no reason why we can't say Barack Hussein Obama, it's his name after all.
Wow, according to CNN's latest it's Obama 58 million vs McCain's 52 and a half [popular vote]. Obama took a lot of previously red states. But 100 million voters in a country of 300 million people is still freakin disgusting. There aren't 200 million people in the US under 18 years old. What the hell is wrong with Americans?
Yeah Rob, Bush's speech was embarassing compared to Obama's. I must admit I got a bit choked up listening to Obama's acceptance speech, truly inspirational and thoughtful . Whereas Bush seemed more into himself than anything else...

dude that's pretty amazing. 169 million registered voters in the u.s. 110 million turned up. that's like a 65% turnout rate, i dont think it's ever been that high ever
Watching the coverage on TV and seeing everyone celebrate when they called it was pretty moving. It's amazing to think that one person inspired such a reaction. He's a born leader.
good stuff!
some funny comments in this thread lol.
here in the uk the american elections were so publicised it was probably more impressive than our own elections with all the 3D graphics and stats and correspondance on tv, wow.
finnaly decent people were able to outnumber hicks , hillbillys and religious nutjobs , i even thought it would be impossible in america , but finnally a president that breaks the pattern !
Obama has some Big shoes to fill and a lagacy to live up to.
He really couldn't do any worse than Bush, but that's the problem: Bush has fucked our nation so forcefully that Obama is going to inherit a broken nation with an impending recession and two mishandled wars. I feel bad for the dude.
Bush did a great job. I hope Obama lives up to the same expectations Bush lived up to so well.
Yeah, you're right, Becuase our country, economy, and standing in the world are in such great shape after 8 years of his presidency. I think you're trolling this thread.
Yipeee!!
It's great that we got such a huge voter turnout. I guess as the country gets in worse shape folks start thinking more about how the country is run.
I love it. Im so glade he won. It pissed me off so much how religious fanatics were coming out of the wood works scr3eaming shit about a muslim taking over and the antichrist close behind. Even the bug spraying man came to the house one day and ranted the whole time about muslims being the enemys, and were all stupid for allowing the terrorist to take over. God just boils me, how ignorant people can be. Seriously he won, that means a TON of people felt he was the right guy for the job. This is karma on those red neck fucks. Obama, you da man!
finnaly decent people were able to outnumber hicks , hillbillys and religious nutjobs , i even thought it would be impossible in america , but finnally a president that breaks the pattern !
I know hahaha! Finally rational thinking out weighed fear mongering! Now all we have to worry about is what those nut jobs will do now that he's in.
I think whoever got in we where in for a presidential upgrade. Bush blew a lot of calls and he had a lot of crap laid on his door step, hopefully some of it will go with him but I don't see that happening...
I liked that Obama won the votes of people making more then 250k per year, even though those are the people he's going to tax.
I liked what McCain said in his speech.
I liked that its a clean election with a clear winner.
Obama got my vote not because it was historic but because he talked a good game, ran a cleaner campaign and wasn't GOP.
I am a little worried that while America is cleaning house we're going to lose a lot of good decent republicans who if party politics where taken out of it, should have kept their job.
I have to ask - why are you democrats such horribly SORE winners/losers? When Bush won either term, nobody was gloating, poking or saying "eat it dems!" or anything of the kind. The board republicans were simply happy. Why do you guys have to be such dicks?
My girlfriend and her mother (as is mine) are republicans through and through. They're not insane, religious nuts, hillbillies or morons. Calling them such is ignorant and assinine. They're not happy Obama won, but they are going to give him 100% of their support, which is more than you guys ever did for Bush in either term. Both parties have extremes that are completely insane. Be civil.
But really, Obama won, so stfu and BE HAPPY. We finally have some good change going on, dems control house and senate now. Without rampant presidential veto's, the dems can finally pass some legislation.
**8ftSpider - Sorry man, but Bush didn't cause this economic issue, Clinton did. He passed legislation before leaving office that not only allowed but encouraged banks to offer those new fancy ARM/SubPrime loans. Bush didn't help it, no doubt about it. He made it worse. But be sure you're pointing your finger in the right direction before you sling accusations around.
One more thing - McCain had a very graceful speech for conceding the election. Very nice words were spoken about Obama. What urked me a little was that Obama's speech never once mentioned McCain as a good person or opponent. Not a big thing, but it did put a slight hamper on my mood. I'd have thought Obama would've been more courteous.
What bothered me when McCain conceded was the constant booing. I thought it was very classy/respectful the way McCain bowed out, yet while he talked about how they need to change current perspectives and work together, the crowd booed each time he mentioned Obama. wtf is wrong with his supporters?
I swear they are bitter angry people, and I felt that before the election. My wife was treated like shit by one of the republican party call centers when she said she was voting Obama. They hung up on her when she asked where to get our number removed from the call list. They call center was actually about 2 miles from my house, so my wife went there and confronted the guy, who then proceded to claim my kids looked embarassed to be there. Then as my wife left, yelled out the door "SOCIALIST!".

I'm all out of cheeks to turn, now they get what they get.
As the GOP sought to polarize their base, they inadvertently polarized the Dems with their constant trash talk. If they hadn't played to so heavy handed we might not see the backlash.
If we don't like how ugly the mob is, maybe we shouldn't whip them up into a frenzy.
They can't cry party foul when the monster they created knocks over someones beer...
they inadvertently polarized the Dems with their constant trash talk
I've seen 8yrs of trash talk coming from the dems, not the reps. But everyone has their own opinion.
In any case, I'm glad Obama won. This was the first time I voted and it felt good to be on the winning side. Most of the local issues I voted for came out to my liking as well, so it was a good evening for me.
Vassago - McCains speech was good. If he had been talking like that the whole time I think he would have done better. It was like the old McCain.
Obama did mention both McCain and Palin acknowledging them for running a tough race and said he will be looking forward to working with them to solve the tough problems of the future. He didn't spend as much time talking about his opponent but he really did focus on the voters and the people of the US as a pres elect should I think.
I think we should not gloat. There may not have been gloating on these boards but there was plenty of gloating to go around when bush won. However that's in the past now and we should celebrate but not gloat.
It's truly time to heal the divides in the country and I am proud to support a soon to be pres that I feel will step up to tackle this task and lead us back into prosperity.
For the record a lot of my redneck friends that grew up in the woods of northern MN voted for Obama. Of course they were the skateboarding rednecks though. lol

"I just received a very gracious call from Senator McCain. He fought long and hard in this campaign, and hes fought even longer and harder for the country he loves. He has endured sacrifices for America that most of us cannot begin to imagine, and we are better off for the service rendered by this brave and selfless leader. I congratulate him and Governor Palin for all they have achieved, and I look forward to working with them to renew this nations promise in the months ahead."
Sadly kind of feels that way, Mezz; racism clearly still very apparent so it's a huge relief to see this happen. The progress at which any positive changes will happen is going to be extremely slow I'd imagine... there's just too much fuckin clean up work that needs to be done.
Definitely an exciting election to watch and be a part of!
Its funny that racism is being brought up when Obama had a much better campain and and more support than the last two white guys the democrats offered up. I really dont think it was as much of an issue as people like to think.
W000000T CONGRATS TO THE ALL MIGHTY NEGRO PRESIDENT
Great speaches from both of the candidates, was really good to see McCain go out on a good note, i think if he could have talked like that the entire election he would have had a much better chance of winning.

It is embarrassing to compare.

We haven't had a true Republican in office since Reagan, so I'm looking forward to see who runs against Obama in 2012.
It's funny, in some ways, it seems Bill Clinton is closer to being a Republican than the majority of those that ran for the office this time around.
You being a smartass puts a hamper on my mood. :P :P
