Awesome stuff lately!!!! Seriously, all that studying is really paying off, there has been a great leap in your work lately! Amazing to see. Dare I say... you may even be rendering your pieces more?!
Gotta keep it up, it's really coming together now!
Also, I agree with Two Listen, if nothing else, you've really got your own style going now, and that's really amazing for any artist. As soon as I scroll up to your posts in WAYWO, right away I know it's your work. Awesome!
Cheers mezz! Cant say ive really been making a concious effort to render more haha, maybe im just getting quicker who knows?! Back in the day i used to want to have my own "look" and its really something else for people to know its me - as long as i dont get stuck in a rut and only have a shitty calling card then its all gooood! Thanks as always.
More studies/revamping old sketches. This geezer will be the 2nd of 3... still gotta finish off the girly character too.
So like. You need to make an image. A HUGE image, that you push really super far, into an awesome, finished masterpiece. You've got the talent, you've spent the time learning and studying. Now it is time for you to show everything that you've got!
...still with the studying alongside that, but you know what I mean, yeah?
Harr, Two Listen - It's definately something I should do more - that roman dude took about 8-10hours to finish with all the minor changes and things i ended up doing. I dunno if you mean an illustration as a whole, background and all haha.
Also im not really one for rendering the fuck out of something, not to say you cant spend time - but if its just adding detail that doesnt help the image as a whole then its probably not for me. I think Jaime Jones is where i wanna be at some day - http://www.artpad.org/
Still, i'll probably spend a good few hours on this masterstudy im doin at the moment, theyre always good to do.
Selrahc - practice practice practice! s'all it takes
This is such an amazing sketchbook so far, the level of improvement and quantity of work you have produced is very impressive. Well done! I look forward to seeing more of your work and i hope that you manage to get a job as a concept artist, you definately derserve it!
Cheers dudes! Dunno about the quantity of work as I often ive end up procrastinating for months at a time but hey, im slowly gettin there so maybe ill get something good at some point.
Calling both of these finished. Need to sort out the female partner to go with the geezer but ill get to that soon.
The study of the woman is gorgeous, her skin looks so REAL in some areas. Amazing attention to the shading.
Your em... shark man? is looking great too. Love the glossy detail around the mouth.
Lovely landscape studies as usual
I also recall seeing some thumbs in the WAYWO thread. Those were looking very interesting too!
Great to see you keeping busy! Looking forward to more!
Cheers mezz and yea... figured i needed to do some anatomy studies after doin that weird mouth dude as i've done that pose with that look so many fucking times... so bad. Trying to get a nice workflow for painting landscapes and the like, still not finding something im comfortable with.
Wanted to design a league of legends character again so the thumbs are with that in mind!
Just what I needed to see, as always your environments especially help some things click for me.
One thing I'd like to see, not that what you paint should in any way be governed by my recommendations, is some more architecture implemented into your landscapes. You've got some basic cityscape type buildings, and then you've got some various landscapes devoid of much if any architecture but the two aren't combined so often.
...I mostly recommend that because it's something I have a terrible difficult time with and it'd help to see how you'd handle painting some more complex buildings and architecture, might fill in some gaps for me. :P
But don't mind me, good seeing your stuff, thanks for your continued posting!
I really want to find a workflow that works for me in regards to architecture, theres people like thomas pringle/edouard (http://www.edouardcaplain.com/) and then the steambot crew and i think i need to try apeing their workflow a bit although it feels rather forced.
I think the main reason i enjoy the way Tom scholes paints is because how its so organic/abstract in its creation, you can make up little details from nothing and noise... its relaxing and probably a bit too close to masterbation in that its only making me feel good, im not really pushing myself haha.
I'm sure ill work something out thats less rigid than - make shape, lock transparency, make render.
I'm liking you doodles dude, but also that female on the top with a white background - some nice attitude there. And about that image with the two guys (viking?), you could work abut more with the full expression of the image. What are they doing? I belive some exaggeration in both pose and facial expressions would help to answer those questiongs. peaceOut
Dynamic poses are definately an issue with me as im generally thinking more about the design of something than just putting it into action within an illustration. I've been nagged before about breathing more life into my characters and I really agree that I should make them more interesting by giving them poses befitting to their character.
I dig the silhouettes! I think you should avoid having a shield as tall as a person though. Big enough to crouch behind, but still small enough that one could conceivably walk somewhere with it.
(that slight dark glow around your black silhouettes looks cool)
Im an effect whore, love using subtle glows/overlay shit haha.
I dont really want the shield to be realistic as such... more totally over the top jrpg stylised - im doin it as a mockup character for league of legends and me and a friend wanted the character to be a tank. I also wanted to make a character around a core "thing", which as she will be a meatshield warrior of sorts has ended up being the shield.
Still, any other ideas as to how to make her seem iconic and punchy without a massive shield would be appreciated haha - I just want her to really stand out and feel unique.
I do like that witchdoctor and those two roman guys up there. I really like looking into your sketchbook and wonder how good you have become since my last visit! Keep it up, keep it up!
Its a shame none of your following sketches had the potential like the one from 10.1.2011! That really has some power to it!

Keep it on !
A study prior to a mini challenge over on art order to design a lovecraft creature.
but really, I want to see you do like a 6+ hour finished piece. Come on Jack!
bounch, this piece should end up around that!

On a totally unrelated note, toradora is such a fucking good anime.
More doodles and more tinkering... also, panty and stocking with garterbelt = win.
Thanks a bunch people!
Some doodles and a quick study... same old same old!

stop avoiding hands and feet
Hands require as much love as faces to really do them justice! So i end up doing a study mainly focusing on colour and ignore finer anatomy shiznit.
Still, i need to do more studies so ive got all this in my head.

I should probably pop onto irc at some point, not that i have much to say
First off is a collab between me and a mate, he did the sick lineart and some touchups here and there!
Annnnd continuing with my character
Very good works. I love the light on the last one and on the girl on beach. I'll keep following your works.
