One month later and im burnt out on Torchlight and Modern Warfare 2 so I guess that leaves Painting and anime/manga to keep me out of bed! Oh how I love and hate my borderline obsessive compulsive disorder haaaaar.
Hell, I had my card details stolen and the tiny amount in my bank emptied so I cant even be tempted by the steam sales so yea, maybe its karma or something hahaha.
Cool man!! I really like those monster thumbs you have going there They're all looking pretty sick.
The screenshot mock-up isn't bad either, but the effects aren't really doing it for me... namely the car lights streak, and the explosion at the end of the road.
Good stuff man, I can definately see some improvements in your work!! Good luck with the art test!
Mezz, bounch - Yea, id love the fucking job... it'd be an amazing xmas present! Agreed on the screenshot and as pleased as I am with it i know it has a hell of a lot of problems, I wasnt really sure what to aim for with a mockup screenshot so I went for mood over detail. I think i would of fallen a bit short if i tried to make it super detailed although yes, it could do with some more loving in some places - It was nice to do mind you... taxing haha.
Cheers dudes!
Some quickish studies - realised that i had problems with forms while doing those trolls so wanted to go do some greyscale stuff to hopefully clear up some shit. Next up Leyendecker studies!
More doodles! Tryin to do a nice portal sorta thing for the DWV Mini over on GA! It probably needs some glowy sparklez to portalify it, that or a total reshuffle... Might do another but I doubt ill have that done prior to the deadline.
Finished up minicomp concept (which is gunna get redone to Emil's ironfist specifications) - And a few studys... which i need to finish up. Emil said to make it even better, and hes a tough man to please so I need to get my game face on.
Also some shitty thumbs for the Divinity2 competition over on moddb - Need to design the price of darkness and I'm really not sure of what route to take. I'm thinking puppet master/homunculus type things - or a demon forced into a human body OR a weird ass entity thing that doesnt resemble humanity (prefered). I might just remix what i have and try and make something up of the amalgamation they become, im not good enough at letting go for thumbnailing yet.
Thanks to acapulco for recommeding more awesome artists to study.
nice! i'm digging the last batch a lot, but disappointed that there's only four images. next time I want to see 10! I don't care if it's the same image!
Wow. I don't have anything to add that hasn't already been said (and said better), but your colours and atmosphere are amazing. The way you handle temperature is crazy-good.
Keep it up Not crits, except that the lava(?) kinda makes me think more of streams of blood actaully... not sure why. I think it's cause it's not indented into the rock surface enough?
I disappoint with THE SAME AMOUNT OF IMAGES. Sorry. Although its more due to wanting to update now rather than... tomorow. Least that means the space between now and updating next will be less - maybe? who knows?!
Cheers mezz, i think im improving with environments and its nice cuz im realising my shortcomings really quickly - especially when it comes to view point. I think im getting at handling floor planes and getting my fore/mid/background better.
Now I just need to do some more confined spaces - and stop ripping off Tom Scholes!
Emil T_T It wasnt meant to be wang... it needs dewangifying.
Sneeky, cheers dude!
Probably shouldn't post these art tests up so soon but the email is sent so any (welcome) potential crits will be benefit my brainbox only!
Was nice to invest a decent amount of time on these 2 images from supplied 3dbases and i've definately learnt what I find hard, dunno if i learnt anything else... oh, aside how fucking helpful the transform > distort tool is for complex things.
cool concepts, yeah not sure what the brief was but these are really minor things I noticed - how sharp most of the edges look and how flat some of the big surfaces are would be good if there was more detail in the edges of stuff and the surfaces had some large noticable texture/pattern
I dont see no bevels jack.. whats up with that.. i told you man, go with bevel.
Maybe, some real intense light+shadows, the highest you have is still pretty soft,
and rendering in some highlighted spots on edges/materials could really increase alot of hmm factor.
You did great man, lots of work wich might ask stuff from you that you are less familiar with, and all that in a small window of time,
i would not have stand my ground at that on. highfive!
Mezz Cheers! But no luck this time... got the interview which was a first, cool experience so next time I know what to expect, time to floor them, right?
Ged, rens - yeah, i definately struggle with manmade objects, especially in the texture/detailing area - Still need to fix that shit up.
acapulco thankies dude!
Right, after a fucking long absence due to a borked PC I now has working components so I can paint again! (touch wood)
Some older doodles and this mornings warm up studies and doodles to get back into the swing of things. If anyone wants to do some daily studies/exercises (like on previous pages) add me to msn or something and we can crank some shit out, yes?
(adding stuff on flickr now seeing as photobucket is recompressing images)
It's about time you started painting again, you slack piece of turd! :P
If you say your computer was out of action... I'm going to call bullshit. Haha.
Sounds like fighting talk to me Emil... ya wanna go do you?
Devin dear~ my technique is no mystery it basically revolves around ripping off tom scholes - http://www.youtube.com/user/idiotapathy84 - haha but im always up for chatting shit on msn!
Saya, wait... what? I'm no exhibitionist!
Cheers dudes!
I've no idea what i was thinkin of while doodling these, the 2nd one was close to a weirdass Dinosaur Ambassador at somepoint, which is a topic totally worth revisiting.
It seems to me like all your own concept ideas keep getting more interesting and are showing off your style more and more. Awesome. Keep going, the improvment is showing!
Some quick doodles and studies from me, tryin to think abit more about technique and workflow, I want to find something im comfortable with that yields good results
Heh TwoListen - Ya, i also use a mixture of other peoples brushsets and for the last few paintings ive been using other peoples entirely, just to get out of my routine and be forced to experiment a bit more.
SupRore thanks man, hopefully it gets more awesome soon, gotta break this fucking wall down, right.
Dang, cheers dude!
More doodling, been looking at paintings a lot and trying to deconstruct them so.. WE CAN REBUILD THEM.

Turtles redux?
Some work I did for an Art test! Had to design a dungeon troll and a mockup screenshot for a contempory battle racing game.
The screenshot mock-up isn't bad either, but the effects aren't really doing it for me... namely the car lights streak, and the explosion at the end of the road.

The art test images look good. Dunno what the images you were working off looked like, but these look great, and quite nicely cleaned and rendered!

What types of brushes are you using? They seem to give you really good results.
Two listen, look in his signature
Oh snap, I don't have signatures turned on. Didn't see that until I checked his profile. Thanks.
