Davision: While I generally like your stuff, oftentimes that comes from cool shaders moreso than the actual sculpt, as your raw sculpts always strike me as being quite 'pillow-shady', which comes from your shapes all being quite round and non-overlapping. They strike me as being 'rubbery', rather than skin pulled taut over bone and muscles that go over and under eachother, and slack at other places.
well that "pillow shady"/round result is because of my workflow, i usually work from a very low sdiv and build up the main shapes and then work my way down with higher sdivs and smaller "shapes". This way i can work very focused and the result might be very clean but also has a lot of that more round smooth shapes, if i dont define them more in the higher sdivs afterwards.
With this model its clear that I would need to define and polish it a lot more, the neck for example is only something I made in a low sdiv and then not worked on it more.
I guess I gave also the wrong impression with the GI lights and mats rendering that it should be a finished polished piece.
Just a suggestion, that's all. And working from low subdivisions on is something that a lot of people do, as far as I'm aware. if this is something you'd like to improve, maybe you could look into flatten/trim brushes, and use more reference for skin-tension?
hmm yea, im thinking about doing a very slim skinny head with reference and then exaggerateing the skin tension over bones and mucsles.
Now this thread needs more art!
Blarg, might as well come out of lurker mode and finally post something here :P. Hi guys :poly142:
Nothing special, but...
A rock [hopefully] ~40 mins from a Sphere.
Compared to all of the rest of the work in here, my post is going to seem like trash, but its time to come out of the woods and start posting more regularly.
Here's a 1 hour sculpt I did starting from a cube. This is my second sculpt ever, so any crits would be greatly appreciated
Expect to see more sculpts from me over the next few weeks until GDC
@Ravenslayer - Love that skull, you've tempted me to try making one.
@Mike Yevin - Everyone has to start somewhere. I'd really recommend you use good front and side references in your modelling and keep at the lower subdivision levels until you have the basic forms correct. Remember: Dont worry about smoothing too much at this stage, and 'clay tubes' is your ally
@mminnitt - Yeah, of course, I can't ever get anything to look as it should without references :poly136:
For these first few speed sculpts I'm trying to focus more on getting used to moving around within the program and comfortable with sculpting in general. As for my workflow, I start with a cube and work my way up in subdivision levels, getting the shape as far as I can until I subdivide again.
Currently I am working my way through the Eat 3d Zbrush 3.5 tutorial videos, so as I get deeper into that I will begin to use more versatile tools (I am only using the standard, move and clay brushes for now). I'll try and get a more "proper" sculpt up here this afternoon after class
Quick question; How many of you use a tablet for sculpting?
I'm saving up to buy a Intuos 4 M at the moment, and am annoyed by the amount of things I run into that I could do easily with a tablet. Quick paintovers, annotations, anything...
mminnitt// How to rendering?
It looks variation colors of outline
It's 'chromatic aberration,' if you try to give it a go, please be gentle with it.
In photoshop you can go to "Filter>Distort>Lens Correction..."
Too many people over do it and it just ends up hurting people's eyes.

Anyhow.. it is somehow your style and it will develop over time!

20 mins with mouse (ick)
Spent 2 hours on this from a sphere.
Not sure if 3 hours counts as speed-modelling but it was quick for me.

Anyway todays offering - 90mins from a sphere.

But it partially disguises my failures!
Both the neck and the back are a huge mess, and the other parts aren't that good either, but this is the only Zbrush speed modelling I had around.
@Mik2121 Ace Aztec detailing.
Here's my first go at Speed Sculpting (Neat thread btw!)
-Woog:)
o and now i love you forever too...

Man, I want one. :P
Oh well, I'll just stick to poly-modelling hard surfaces for a while longer then.
another rough one
Speed sculpt of some 'stonewashed moleskin pants' this time... with no chromatic aberration
