Hey thanks G, It used to be fully, heavy-handedly colored at first but I then decided to just keep the areas of interest colored, thankyou 'blending options'!
But yeah I find that painting light bounces is sooo relaxing and rewarding (kicks the shadows out if I may say). Anyways, not a single bouncelight in that next sketch, more like the opposite actually ie pitch black shadows. Done in Artrage2.5 Starter Edition. Free! woooo-ooo.
Wanted to post my sketchbook here for a while but I wasn't sure if it would be a good idea but then I saw this topic so I thought what the hell! But then today I noticed an actual sketchbook forum so I decided to just move this over to a post over there.
don't know if you guys remeber this one)it's from Day of the Tentacle(1993.LucasArts) - one hellofahillarious game%)
you should try it out some time...
i don't now if its sketchy enough, but i was just messing around in photoshop,so I guess it'll do)
cheers everyone,very nice concepts here
xysdf: Cool pirate pic, reminds me of the style from the mi3 soundtrack cover. Might i suggest pushing the values a little more in key areas to create focus and make the image more interesting?
A work in progress, working towards realism without reference. I still need to study hands more tho, i have real problems making them look convincing. I'll probably just use reference for these.
damn Slash thats really good for a realistic approach without reference!! hope you dont mind giving you some tips from my side. areas you might wanna check are the head: she has a slight tilt looking downwards so the back of her head might come a bit higher and the hair might start a bit lower on the forehead. for the hands: hands are always hard ! me too... they look a bit small to me (my general check is: from the bottom of the chin to the hairline should be equal the size from the end of the wrist to the tip of the middle finger...)
& thanks for some words on the pirate - your definately right! it was a rather quick sketch and i left it in that stage of "ideas down" ... looking now back on him i think i should take him a bit further... if i have the time ...
Slash why do you want to avoid references? I don't see the point...
Also I'd rather see her fully nude instead of giving her random fur+horns. Or maybe just a simple drapery?
Looking great so far tho!
(glad you guys like the drivers hehe :P reworked that pic a little for the sake of brush testing : )
Pior, I want to feel comfortable drawing the human figure (and a variety of materials) without having to resort to reference. It will make me more effective, since i won't have to spend time looking for/shooting ref. I'm not saying I'm opposed to, or don't use reference, I'm just challenging myself to be able to produce good stuff with AND without.
As for the clothes, didn't really think that one through.. :P The costume started out more elaborate, then turned more and more nude as i progressed. Funny how that works eh?
I like your changes, adds some dynamixxx to the scene.
Thanks for the tips xysdf, i'll keep them in mind.
again in college, i suck at anatomy. Somehow I fully transitioned from pencils to fineliners and markers and ink. Probably has something to do with my education.

I just finished this pic -
Its the basis of a flier for an outdoor psychedelic trance party. Just need to add some basic colour and the lineup..
And now I'm thinking it would look rather cool to have these infested peyote brains growing out of the ground in a game level.

"It's time to choose"
Because squids don't attack arrows surrounded by jello cubes enough
