wow so many great photos all in one thread, really enjoyed all 19 pages of this.
Here is my contribution, i have my slr about a month ago and trying to get better all the time.
Some nice photos in here for sure, really plan on having quite a bit as my desktop. Jordan, really like the tree branches shot, what kinda tree is that?
Jordan those tunnel pics you took look cool, they remind me of these walkways that go under street in London that let you go form one side of the street to another.
This was taken with my cellphone 2/22/08, only just pulled it out... empty lot owned by my old workplacethe manager peppered boulders over it to stop people tearing it up in their trucks, so they just started taking the stones home with them. Skies were always gorgeous out there; smuggled hundreds of photos over the months whenever taking out the trash.
Edit... for some madrones, my favourite tree. In an absurdly beautiful madrone-dense wood of southern Oregon:
Woke up this morning and wandered around the city on a cold and dreary day to see if i could find anything interesting to shoot. In a little alley i found this lonely memorial to sailors lost at sea with one boquet of roses put on top. Snapped this pic and afterwards desaturated the background for effect. Colors i have not touched.
onlything i would do, is crop those cokhee collaz crates away.
they kinda dont fit into the composition. maybe even go wild and try some more things, like cropping off the phone aswell, see what it does.

Thats one thing i am weak at now is composition,i need to plan my shots a little better i think.
But i dont know i kinda like the coke crates, the crates and the space in the left kinda frame the album in the center.
Hopefully ill be able to snap some this weekend but its been a balance of photography and Scanadanavian women lately, tonight a woman will be getting my attention.
best way to learn composition is to just do weird shit, crop things in 5 different ways wich you normaly wouldnt dare. i used to keep the size of the photo to its original, i just scaled it down.
but now i scale it down and then crop just the part that i want, dont care what shape the photo will be.
I crop a bit as well but what i mean is where the focus of a shot will be when i snap the picture, thats the part i need to work on and maybe even be more daring when it comes to how i see a shot. Also learning to use my camera a little better will help as well,i should probably read the manual again.
But i probably will have to cut my time i devote to photography as well,i need a nice portfolio piece to be a centerpiece in my portfolio if i have to look for work sometime soon. Been doing that these last few nights as well.
focus is pure for highlighting out the center of attention.
playing with it manualy is a great way to find what looks best.
though it all depends on the type of photography,
you can use the focus to blur out the actual attention point, to let someones mind fill in the rest, like i did with the fairytale road
you can use multiple focus points, or the whole thing, or center.
i use center, with a constant autofocus most, or
set it to auto, single focus in center, focus on the object, and after that you start to move your camera around playing with composition.
