I went home last weekend to visit my family and took a bunch of pictures. My parents have a large koi pond in there front yard and they live within a neighborhood inside of a state park so there is always a lot of interesting wildlife around and things to photograph.
So I went to the zoo the other day, and of course, had to bring my camera. Here are a few of the pics that I think turned out the best
Monkey!! (It's actually a bottle cap it's reaching for and is about to start playing with)
Some mountain goats I guess... they even get some manmade hills to look majestic on
And finally... the jellyfish tank. o.o Which was so hypnotic and cool and awesome and..and... so not having the full effect in photo form :P But well, here's an idea!
Dan, it's a mix of various things. Level adjustments, sharpening and saturation tweaks are the most common. Lightroom has nice features where you can edit the blacks and fill lights and these help restore a lot of the depth to the image.
I am an exchange student in Kauhajoki, Finland, the town where the school shooting happened on tuesday. Being that I aspire to be a professional photographer myself, I shot about 600 frames covering the site and people's reactions as well as the memorial service in town.
This portrait is of the saddest man I've ever seen.
Nice Danr, its funny that at the other side of the water, the frence coast looks exectly the same. (first thought it was france, but then i read that its near york, england)
there's a photo of my mum, in a philadelphia flat in 1965, doing the *exact same thing, same composition, everything except the colour. And the paws. And the wet nose. It's quite creepy really.
I was flipping through some old photobooks today and came past this photo my parents took around 10 years ago. The photo was so funky and inspireing that i just had to give him its spot. (ill replace it with a propper scanned version in a bit)
I took a photo of these prints. I tried scanning them but that didn't turn out well.
These photos are also around 10 years old, so the quality is not perfect in the first place
( just to be clear, those shots are made by my parents, but they looked so cool i wanted to give them a spot )
i can only get shots like that using my 450D and an HSM lens, and the only HSM lens i have will only take from 16-50mm so it's not ideal for getting that close.
Thanks! I use a Nikon D40 and three lenses. The stock 18-55 for anything from 0-10ft, a Nikkor AF-S 55-200VR for 10-20ft, and a Sigma 70-300mm for 25ft+, usually. The D40 sadly has no AF motor though, so unless the lens has a built-in motor, it's manual focus only (which isn't so bad once you get used to it, actually).
The leopard was really close though. The fence was about 1ft from the railing, and the cats were about 3ft further. Glad you like the pics! Saturday was a great day at the zoo. We're getting a huge penguin exhibit next summer, which is going to rock.
i love manual focus, gives me a lot of creative freedom!
sigma lenses i can use obviously, but i've found myself sometimes regretting the decision to go Canon, due to their lenses being sub-par to Nikkon. thing is i really love the interface, the grip, and overall feel of the 450D.
i actually have a Sigma 70-200mm lens, is yours HSM or standard?

Gotta agree with notman on climbing strangefate's tower; Assasins Creed is an awesome game
Notman - that's in barcelona, spain.
Lava Lamps got NOTHIN' on it.
HULK SMASH PUNY SEPIA!
one day i'll get bored with york minster ... but not today. Got myself a new super-wide angle lens, they may as well have built it afresh
Rick - what is it you're doing to your photos? Looks a bit more than the midtone contrast slider ... is it?

Oh and Rick, I love the "Spence and DJ" shot. You should do more people.
Here's an oldie from me:

I was shooting at a higher ISO at night, and some shots were so noisy they were unusable, so I just bought myself a new DSLR. Now I need another trip!
From my vacation in London
are those scanned? they look strangely blurry
