edit to the edit: I just checked Wikipedia and apparently it's dead in the water and sent to development hell for now, but the other movies in the trilogy are being remade. Sympathy for Mr. Vengence is being remade by the people who produced Paranormal Activity.

While Will Smith's Oldboy has been canned, Cowboy Bebop starring Keanu Reeves has at time of writing completely failed to die.
God, that movie looks dreadful! Not just cause it's a remake, either. Will Smith's son CAN NOT ACT!!! God that kid is the worst! It looks just plain stupid, and mildly insulting.
Yes this movie looks like a horrible idea. Plus, the kid is like 5 years old. Daniel was at least 13. Oh yeah and Black kids can't be called Daniel in Movies, they have to have names like Dre, or Tre, or Keshawn.

To be fair (but who wants to be fair with lame movies) the name in the new movie comes from Jackie Chan calling Daniel-san (who I suppose isn't Daniel-san any more) "The Karate Kid" because when he begins to train him he only knows a few crappy moves who learnt in a karate class back in the US.
Because knowing is half the battle. I imagine the other half involves avoiding this movie like the plague.
