I'm in the same boat, arsh. It was tons of fun regardless of the outcome. And this contest gave me a great opportunity to attempt my first character model. I cant say I'm not at least a little , but I'd much rather lose to my friends here at polycount than someone elsewhere. I'm so tickled for you guys (ghost, zip, neox, norit, and forever!) Awesome work!

I am interested in seeing the best character art for the diablo category. Mostly because that's what I entered. And I'd like to see what Trumped Arsh's Diablo, Struve's assasin, Pior's Cow Knight and my Necromancer.

In the spirit of thread necromancy I thought I'd post up some newer renders I did. Below are some smaller versions, and paired with each of those is a thumbnail to the full resolution versions. They're pretty big, about 3000x2500 pixels.
I really like what you have done. But I have to crit, I Think, The design is a mish mash of Different things. You have a few tribal things going on, then you have lots of magical swirly armor incorporated with a bits of Sea creature accessories, and the actual creature looks like a beast you would find in a jungle or cave, not really a sea creature.
Texuring, modeling, detail is all top notch man. It just feels like the design isn't very unified. Just something to keep in mind for next time around.
Josh, I totally agree with what you said man. I think part of the problem was just the length of time I've been working on him. The idea changed and evolved so many times, because it was so hard to stay locked in to the original concept I drew (which he looks absolutely nothing like now).
Well, there's that and also I'm not a great concept artist. I'm trying to work at it.
I'd like to think that if I was working more hours on something, over a shorter period of time, I could stay more focused on the design and not wander off in areas. No clue really though.
Although, I think whatever I do next will be a smaller scale project, one that I can finish in a more realistic timetable. And hopefully the design will be stronger as a result of that
wow tha concept art stuff is inspiring to say the least... i wish that i stopped playing wow and entered into it... hmmmmmmmm oh well maybe next time...
edit: I will say that I think that the Diablo 3D Character was a robbery of cosmic proportions. Struve, Neo_God, Pior, and Arshlevon, I liked yours better!!

alright...so the next time they do this, I guess it would be good to keep in mind not to do any normal mapping. Seems like blizzard doesn't like it too much.
wtf the diablo character winner looks weird ! arsh to us you have won , not just because your polycount, but yours was by far the best. The rest is very koolio , the starcraft environment is win ehehe...

One thing I do regret is that I didn't put my contact information on my image. Woops, that probably would have been a good idea (I realized a lot of people did that while I was viewing the winners).

Was really fun to do some low poly models and handpainted textures again after all the highpoly/normal mapping things i did in the past months.
I think it would be cool if Blizzard adds a honorable mentions category or something, to show off all great artworks that didn't get a price.
