It's from life. She does have a big nose yeah. I want to exaggerate things at this stage so as I shave away at it for a closer likeness I've got enough clay there. For an old biddy she does have remarkably tiny ears, but I'm really only going to be hinting at them anyway, since her imminent hairdo almost completely covers them up.
Yeah I am having an absolute blast with it.
good work daz, are you planning on sculpting the hair? I always like to see the different solutions people come up with for hair on busts, it really is the part that shows the sculpter's style.
awesome daz it makes me go to a sculpting class too ahahah ! will you use wire to make hair strands ? i know a friend who did hair in that way and it turned quite cool since he then painted the wire and it really seemed like hair!
Looking Neat Daz, but Im wondering how your going to work around that stick coming out of her head? Does the hairdo cover that? Are you going to saw it off? Its part of your armature, no doubt, but...just wondering what your plans are there.
I wish everyone would stop asking me bloody questions! As said in my last post (why is it folks dont actually read what people say anymore? Thats kinda beginning to irk me around here), yeah Im gonna make hair. Beyond that, I dunno! I havent done this shit since school, and that was eons ago. Im at a class, and hence, Im learning. Im the student, not the tutor. I dont have all the answers. YET!
Daz i was wandering what brand of sgrafitto you uare using, and if you used it to make the hole where the eye goes? also why are you using clay? what color is her hair going to be? is she a white lady? where would i go about finding an old white lady to sculpt? how man minutes did it take you to do the eyelid? how do you get the unfinished clay look? what city were you born in? and most importantly what kind of pants where you wearing when you did this?

50/50 on this one. Great model and great texture. Bad feet (pigeon toe'd?) and american white male living in feudal japan? also the pattern on the swords blade needs to be toned down a little, it's not ridged but a design caused by the heating and cooling of metal
hey hawken thanks for the critics theres a reason why i went for a non japanese samurai ( seem awkward doesnt it ? ) in this textured characters the only one i intend to make truly japanese like is JIn, mugen will be brazilian like because of his fighting style and manners . Kariya is more "america" like since he states in a sentence "im a man who was born in the wrong country in the wrong time" .
enough chit chat back to texturing, and i will fix all that people have been telling me !
Using splines to make edge looped/dense enough facial mesh for zbrush. (Thanks arsh for letting me see your model to see how the edge loops go). Subd/box modeling just isnt my thing for this. This way I can tweak with edit poly, and have the benefit of making a more or less dense mesh that conforms more to my specs via bezier curves.
oxy, how do you get that technique to work? I tried once but it seemed to just randomly connect polygons between all the spline points like a borked zbrush import.. dunno what I was doing wrong
Head's looking a tad wide there, Fuse, and also the body is looking a bit thick in general.
Ian McKellen is a pretty slim guy. He's also 5'11" tall, this guy looks shorter than that. I'm fairly sure it's the width of him making it look that way, but also it could be the arms are too short.

Nice work so far though. Keep it up!
A little more on this guy. I'm having second thoughts about the angler-esque torch.
