Jaco thats awesome stuff. I'm really struggling with doing Hard Surfaces in Zbrush. Do you know of any good tutorials for doing HS? I've looked but can't turn up anything of substance.
Bones, that's is damn impressive. Don't get me wrong, but when I see "ingame" and then that picture, it doesn't feel right. I guess I'm not used to that kind of detail in a game
Oh, and I have to say it's really good to see more modo use around here
Trying something different to clear my mind. I normally do humans, and although this is humanoid, it's still an alien. I call it a flirx'naz. Still needs work, but that's why I'm posting it in this thread
Thanks Heart Murmer. I modeled that in 3dsmax I'm just going to use zbrush to scratch it up. As for tutorials, I don't know of any zbrush ones but if you do a search for hard surface modeling in the technical talk forum you'll find some good threads.
Bones: Really love the wizard-type guy, way more detailed then I'm used to seeing game models be. The one thing that seems sort of off though is the loin cloths folds. Their not 'bad', but they don't seem up to par with the quality and thought put into the rest of the model.

Did this for LPC #05. But apparently he isn't 3rd person enough. So I´ll just put him here instead.

AWESOME!!!! Your model deserves to be in that comp, a fighting is a perfect example of a 3rd person view, right? If so, then I think it is lame that other entries are still allowed, like the viva pinata elephant(wich is also a kickass model, dont get me wrong!). PS: I wanted to post this in de LPC05 topic but I cant seem to reply in that topic.
great work ivars! I thought the rules weren't clear at all that fighting games were not allowed. They are 3rd person after all, just not part of the genre '3rd person', which is where the distinction was lacking.

Absolutely within the bounds of the rules. Someone is mad with power!

Mad with power is the easy way of saying absolutely doesn't know how to define a parameter and or have an understanding of a camera's position within a set or environment. Tekken being on the PS3 kinda solidifies it as a next gen candidate and the camera being from the vantage point of a 3rd person observor (i.e. the damn player(s)) kinda puts the camera in the realm there of. Another case of bad judgement in closing those threads and therefore trying to nulify solid work that falls within the specs of the challenge...even if ever so greatly vague. Lame.

thats looks great. I promise we'll do a fighting game comp again soon. fps / 3rd person perspective really meant shooter/adventure games (most people got it by the examples and "fps" (first person shooter), weapon allocation), sorry if that wasn't clear enough as your model is truely great - always a hazard with running these challenges.
"Third person computer games cover games that are played from a third person's point of view. The majority of third person games have a the view slightly above and behind the main character, but can also include more 2D graphic adventure games. The third person games category is broken down in alphabetical order and but genre or theme. Also included are reviews and top picks."
From the site you posted above. Imo it confirms that fighting games is indeed a third person game?
Akimine - sweet, looks like he belongs in STALKER.
Eveyone else - while I completely agree that locking the thread was a bit overboard on hawken's part, can we please take that whole discussion to a GD thread? In fact: here
more fun maya scuplting.
NO they arent 100% dental accurate, and a number of them are cloned (only 5 separate tooth models), but this is headed for a toon rendered production for a buddy of mine, and I doubt the audience will notice.
EDIT: and what part of 1st or third person action-adventure shooter game was so hard to understand?
Fighting is a genre separate from action-adventure.

Except it didnt say that in the initial brief, its changed now. It said a character from any next gen FPS/3rd person game for example gears of war etc. Now its edited to be alot more specific. Anyway there is a separate thread for this in general.
something ive been working on and off when i got a bit of time, Weirdly enough i didnt work on the face much, Im used to finish that first on a model, but this time, Im still thinkin on it... all WIP crapola! To many people seem to be doing kid-teen lately tho, so i might not finish ahaha -1
cheers aesir
b1ll - face is spot on. lots of attitude
Vailias - looking good so far. teeth are a real pain at times.
alexk - love the atmos in that piece. the glass is a bit clean though maybe?
HEx - looking good so far man - barrels need to pop a bit more, looking a bit too difffuse IMHO
@Indecom
Good start, though the seam of the maps in the middle of the models is pretty visible. Try to remove it and add some color variation to the whole character!

that's really BS, some people can bend the rule sbut not others...the definition of third person is ubervague and nextgen is even worse.
!!!! Revoluci
What is the prize with these things? The prize is the fulfillment you gain from not accidentally upsetting hawken and getting your thread closed?
And these challenges were supposed to be fun?
Anyway, nice heihachi.
did the colour work in zbrush. still not 100 percent happy with zbrush texturing, but the shader kind fo makes it look nicer
A quick skull I whipped up for some mudbox recapping, 2.5 hours including low-poly + texturing.
indeed

Thank you all for the nice comments, but let's not turn this in to a discussion about genres.
Hope you enjoy it !
