mvelasquez, I'm glad to see your working on her. Lookin' pretty rad so far. Pretty pumped to see how it turns out!
heres a little something I'm working on. It my first next gen. character....that I'm actually close to finishing. Lots of trial and error with other models, but I'm getting there.
Anyway, this is pretty much just a lot base color and texture so far.....and I'm looking for some comments and feedback.
mvelasquez, awesome work so far, how many triangles is she so far?
ogle, thats a killer environment piece, can't wait to see more.
Here is about as far as Im going to go on this guy. I'll probably go back to it when Im putting my reel together. He will be rigged and given a weapon so to speak.
Ben: yar ill address the normals and give em another pass. My plan is to complete the diffuse then propagate the all that to the other maps. Spec is still temp on the new shot.
Enix: Looking awesome! I dont know if you can make out that level of detail from the trailers or if you're extrapolating the details based on what looks right. regardless, it looks great.
Robbiek1000: thanks, i didnt think anyone remembered
Are you putting her in a game? It looks to me that her eyes are a bit high on her head. Something about the boots strikes me as odd too. ah the insteps look a bit wide, thats it.
Kicker: Eeek it takes me too long to post. Thanks man, its just around 10k
So I just finished my summer term, and freshman/foundation year of art school, so next fall I get to go onto my major (Sculpture). Anyway, here's one of my pieces from my 3d class. We originally started with a fruit or vegetable, and then had to do stuff to it (like abstract it or exaggerate it or derive something from it's shape). I picked a pear and noticed it had a butt shape to it so I took it to the next level.
It's carved from foam, which was then covered in several coats of primer and sanded to a smooth finish, then I airbrushed and hand painted the texture on, finally coated with a clear polyurethane.
There's another piece from that class which was a kinetic sculpture made entirely out of basswood, but my teacher has yet to email me the photos of it.
Neo_God that pear sculpture is excellent, I love how feminine you've managed to make it and yet still appear very fruity. The cross section is an excellent touch and the texture is very well painted...I love airbrush painting.
My only critique would be perhaps the polyurethane coating added too much gloss to the surface, I think using airbrush matte coat paint would have toned it down a little bit, besides that it's wonderful. Maybe it's just the flash of the camera
Here is a piece I did for my sculpture final at the Art Institute
He's made from super sculpey, bondo, tissue paper, liquid latex and a pair of carousel horse eyes. I call him Gug, based on H.P. Lovecrafts works.
Cool character kicker. I think he needs a neck, it looks like the head is connected to chest. Im curious how you will make the fluffy hair, i expect you will go low poly with the character? I will try to make such fluffy hair for my squirrel in high poly.
Neo_God: Heh, that's awesome. Really good job on capturing the pear flesh colours and variation, although as someone else pointed out it does look a tad shiny. I really like it though
IronHawk: Could do with some more colour variation i think, some little stains from rain and where dirt got pushed up against the bottom etc. Not bad so far though.
Decided to Dust off this guy. He was originally for a cgchat comp like two years ago. He's uv'd and ready for some texture lovin. I'll post as it progresses.
thanks for the compliments all, I had a female teacher approach me and tell me that she thinks that I don't how profound of a piece I made, because this is essentially every womans nightmare.
I think it's coming off extra shiny due to the flash. But it was a very fun piece to make.
Slipstream: Nice stuff. Love that first girl's form from the side. Couple things...
The vest is looking a little too form-fitting around the chest. It looks like a fairly heavy material, so I don't think you'd need to make the shadows that harsh.
The folds on the jeans could use some work. Grab somereferenceimages and work from that. For instance, the knees look like the jeans are tacked into her skin. The middle of the pelvis is being pushed back because there are highlights all around it (in the pockets and that fold on the crotch).

self portrait. Trying to get some more realistic texturing down.

very good point, I think I will do some concepts of a bow later today
This was my first entirely hand painted texture, I had a lot of fun and hope to improve my skills very soon
Looks good, but her skin color is too white!
@ KICKER
Great texture work!
@ mvelasquez
I love the sharp slightly stylized look of it. I think some more saturated colors would be nice.
More work on my Pig:
And a new project:
Heres what I have its a normal map for a current character, base mesh is just under 3500 polys
It's carved from foam, which was then covered in several coats of primer and sanded to a smooth finish, then I airbrushed and hand painted the texture on, finally coated with a clear polyurethane.

I thought at first you somehow bonsai'd a pear.
Jersey Barrier.
Still going to add some looped cables on the sides for connecting them. I think im getting close on spec maps now. meh.
Anyway one more prop in my collection on my way to a scene.
thats cool shit Neo_God
loving that spiked armor mvelasquez
Would love any input before I begin modeling. Thanks!

Neo_God - I thought that was a real pear at first.. Great paint job.
Kicker, that sculpture made my weiner shrivel...
head break...
the last one is really awful but damn it's practice ...^^
A bit of a ways to go yet, but I had it in the clipboard so thought I may as well show off the ridiculousness.
I know its boring but i need some crits.
@ daghen
Very nice Heads, can i see your basehead wire?
@ Jackablade
Thats scary!
If you want do detail it you really should reconsider the pose, it looks very cramped.
You are a crazy mofo, I like that
so much to yet to learn
I think it's coming off extra shiny due to the flash. But it was a very fun piece to make.
300 !! THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
Before ppl start thinking I am trolling I better put a picture here.....

The second girl looks cool too, what's she for?
