So a big part of this project has been actively assisting Joe and Lee in the asset production pipeline. Taking Joe's in game asset (top right, based on my original concept) and tweaking the look is it's own form of iterative design. I guess this isn't technically concept art as it's part of an active production. Timeline on this is so tight that I've had to adapt to a more dynamic workflow, which has been great fun
Taking a scanned 3D model of #skeleton and warping it to wraith design concept. Gives a good base to sculpt on top of, and will enable me to do some nice lighting effects (inner glow) in post production - now we move onto the muscular anatomy! Original model (and credit to him, as this is a fantastic work of art) from 'carver' on zbrush forums - link to thread can be found here.
Flesh layers done on wraith, there are some tweaks I might make looking at this now, but the character will have a cloak on so most of this will be hidden. I'm just a sucker for the details. Did a quick test render and paintover
Just going back in and tweaking some elements of this today - hands needed to look a little more expressive like my concept (top left). Can't quite get them how I want in 3D (which I'll probably just put down to experience), but a lot closer then the flat, boring pose they were in before (bottom left). Still, onwards and upwards - feathers next!
Working on feathers... followed this tut, and used Pablo's feather model, with some minor tweaks. In the end I took the lazy route, butt that's cuz I'm a concept artist, and all we do is just bash stuff together, innit.
"And through the mist cleared, she saw a lean figure standing tall but not quite solid, it's form obscured by the swirling fog. As she got closer the cloaked figure breathed with an ominous rasping, spores of dust rattling out of it's wheezing lungs. A masked visage turned slowly and fixated upon her with dead, milky eyes - the tight leather cracked and squeaked as the beak opened up and a horrible, wet proboscis uncoiled itself and began lapping at the rancid air, tasting the air for her scent"
Calling this one done for now - pushed myself pretty far with it and have to say I'm happy with the results. Learnt an absolute tonne, and lots of hair pulling moments with some of the technical aspects of it, but got there in the end. May have some more minor tweaks (open to cc if anyone has any suggestions), and will be working on the full breakdowns and turnarounds in the next few days.
I've just finished my MA just had some bad news about losing out on a job because I "didn't have enough sci-fi" in my portfolio. Rather than moan, I've decided to do some mechs! The irony here is obviously I wouldn't even be able to get a job at McDonalds thanks to this guy...
I really like your work, nice attention to details and nice line work, very clean, you deserve more views and comments! I know it's an older post but thanks for the squid ink information, I didn't know!
I am sorry to bring back an older post but I do have a comment for your female elven warrior legs, they seem quite short which is I guess possible (I am really no anatomy expert, just a personal opinion) but mostly they look kind of thin compared to her upper musculature. I feel she could look a bit more heroic with a 7.5 heads height.
Again don't mind my comment too much, I am no expert and your work is way better than anything I can do haha Looking forward to see more from you!
Monster heads done at Industry Workshops in London using Procreate on an iPad pro. After using that I may have to re-consider my mobile setup and buy one...

"WOULD YOU LIKE FRIES WITH THAT?"
