Hey everyone, I'm new to polycount but am a pretty large CSGO fan and I make skins for fun in my spare time. Can anyone tell me how to create my own WIP thread/topic or link me to somewhere that explains it? Thanks in advance!
Skins i plan on customizing- AK-47, AWP, Desert Eagle, and maybe the MP9. going for something like outer space or aliens, in order to fit the 1970-80's theme.
I would like to do this. I love to draw and paint. I also have come up with a couple ideas already, but I have never used computer programs to create artwork =/ Never even dabbled in it.
I would like to ask: if i make skins for the contest and they do not win - can they still be chosen for upcoming cases in the future?
Unlikely. Only new skins are eligible for this competition. Future comps are likely to ask the same.
Besides, if my skin didn't win, I would take that as a clear message to improve my skills and do better on the next one.
Ehhh, Valve's a bit of a wild-card when it comes to picking submissions when it comes to all of their games. In both the TF2 and Dota 2 polycount contests, they did pick submissions that didn't win at later dates, afterall. But CS:GO is such a feverishly competitive climate, you definitely have a point that they'd be unlikely to pick the actual runner ups, let alone skins that didn't make the top 8.
I'm in. I've pitched a collab idea to a friend i used to serve with. Hopefully he says yes to a 50-50 contract, as i'm terrible with design :] Anyone know of a knowledge database of which shader settings are available to which finish styles?

This is mostly false in the cs:go workshop though, Valve tends to chose specific skins for specific cases, there have been times where valve saved older (1-2 years old +) skins for future updates.

sorry, but thats not what we are talking about - we are not talking about future competitions but future csgo cases. because it seems logical to me that the skin can still be chosen in future because you had to work already on it and so. but i hope someone from valve could answer that, i think we can not be sure otherwise.
and btw, i dont think its clear message to improve your skills if you dont win. the competition will be really big and if you dont win it doesnt neccesarily mean you did bad job in my opinion. only 2 skins do really win but that doesnt mean others werent good aswell.

Well that's reassuring. I know they have an economy to maintain, but I wish they'd add workshop skins more often
A question concerning the contest rules: Is it OK to use the copyrighted works in the presentation of the skin if it's not part of the skin itself? I made this presentation picture and wasn't sure whether I should repaint a similar background myself.

Not a wise idea, IMHO. Your presentation image is technically a copyright infringement, since it uses someone else's art without their permission.
Note: I am not a Valve employee. I don't know how they'll vote. So I would just suggest you err on the side of caution.

Thanks for your reply, Eric! I think I'll take your advice and err on the side of caution.
Have been playing CS-GO for not that long now and I saw the skin entry contest which I am participating in from on now. Been graphic designing for years so let's see what I come up with! Stay clipped for updates. Going to watch ''A Space Odyssey (2001)'' now to obtain some inspiration.
Much love
I had an idea for a deagle Delorian (probably spelt wrong but i mean from back to the future) but i am not good at designing weapons, (just an idea i had)
Hi, I am using polycount for the first time. Why does my new topic get removed in few minutes after I post? Thank in advance for the help! EDIT: Nevermind, I got. I sould be approved by a moderator.
Welp, I tried to update my WIP thread with the link to my presentation thread but it says something that I don't have permissions to do that and apparently deleted the thread (Thread not found).
Hello ! good morning ! (from brasil) i have one question... can put all my project sources on github or others services like. For everyone see how i made it ??? or project its exclusive for Valve ?

Your content remains yours, to do with as you see fit. You created it.
It just has to fit within the rules of the competition... has to be new work, must show WIPs, etc.
But what you do with it beyond the competition, is completely up to you.

Google translated this as:
The first post has answers to both of these questions.

Looks like that's a yes.
Did Valve contact you guys about hosting this contest, or was this polycounts idea?
