Probably the most cinematic trailer I've ever seen for a game, I really need to give Metal Gear Solid a shot, haven't played any of the game yet.
You missed one of the best videogame series.
If you want to play them chronologically:
MGS 3: Snake Eater (PS2)
MGS: Portable Ops (PSP)
MGS: Peace Walker (PSP)
MGS V
Metal Gear (MSX2)
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (MSX2)
Metal Gear Solid (PSX)
MGS 2: Sons of Liberty (PS2)
MGS 4: Guns of The Patriot (PS3).
There is a HD Collection for PS3/X360 featuring:
Metal Gear
Metal Gear 2
MGS 2
MGS 3
MGS Peace Walker
But I think it's fine to start with MGS on the PSX, as the Cinematic starts with that, from a certain point of view, MGS is a 3D readaptation of the first two games on the MSX2.
As a matter of fact ... I orignally played the first MGS on a PC emulator, from the actual PS1 game discs. It was a great introduction to the series, and playing it for the first time years after the initial release didn't seem to affect the experience much. I'd recommend it ! And I believe there is also a PC version available, but that's probably less likely to run properly now.
I also bought and played MGS4 without owning a PS3 - I ended up staying late at the office just to play it
Hmm, I don't know. I heard his Japanese VA first, when they showed the original Ground Zeroes trailer and it stuck with me. His Japanese voice seems deeper, slower and has a bit of a slur. Obviously I don't speak Japanese, so I can't really judge, but the way he sounds reflects his burnt and deformed looks.
For me, his English voice just doesn't match his face. He sounds younger, speaks very clearly and has somewhat cartoony mannerisms that remind me a bit of Bane. I recall reading that Kojima wanted a more serious VA direction this time around, so this particular choice stands out to me. Especially when contrasted with Kiefers, raw and mumbling style.
Not sure how I feel about this at all. I've finished all the games, even the PSP ones, but that was a long time ago.
I recently tried to get up to speed with the story by starting with mgs2, then mgs3, then was going to to Peace Walker.
While I loved MGS2 when it came out - and finished it like 5 times - I couldn't get past how rough it is now. Graphics are fine, but the controls, camera and all the dramatic elements are a total mess by today's standards. It's clear why Kojima recommends newbies to start with mgs3 as it features more modern design.
So I just read a summary and watched some vids after a few hours of mgs2. Started mgs3, which I remember thinking was the best game on PS2, and it was the same experience. The gameplay just doesn't do it anymore for me and the cutscenes are way too long and full of pointless exposition.
So I skipped that and just went on to Ground Zeroes after watching some story synopsis videos. Ground Zeroes plays amazing. I really love all the systems, but the many dramatic elements - story, premise, characters - just did nothing for me. I didn't give a shit about these two kids I'm trying to save or why. Unless Kojima has taken some serious measures to make the story more accessible, I can't see how I'm going to stay engaged enough through a much longer game.
The story in Metal Gear Solid has always been pretty rough and all over the place, but I think it's a terrible idea to make your penultimate game a direct sequel to a PSP title of all things.

Awesome news! for PC gamers ,MGSV:The Phantom Pain will launch on September 1st alongside its console versions!
..........But sadly Metal Gear Online 3 has been delayed to Oct. 6 for consoles and Jan. 2016 for PC.
Hayden: have to admit I'm with you there. The story in the entire MGS series has never struck a chord with me. MGS 4 was a horribly awkward experience, and I eventually ended up skipping cutscenes I'd never seen because I Just. Didn't. Care.
Maybe MGS5 will be different. I doubt it. But the gameplay for this one will be as fantastic as ever, and more. That is a certainty.

AUGH that means i need the money for it sooner X(
The online thing is kind of a shame but i can deal with it.
Who knows i might have a ps4 by then.
On a side note i have no idea what to say to people who don't love the story, i can only imagine it's style just doesn't jibe well with them XD
Yeah the last trailer was his last trailer for the game, I assume development is beyond compete and it's just waiting for launch at this point. So maybe he's already left?
According to Snake's Japanese VA, Kojima Productions has disbanded last month. What does it mean exactly is tough to say. Surely, there must be people still working on ironing out the final kinks, but whether that includes Kojima and his closest team is anyone's guess.
As much as I look forward to playing the game, this whole fiasco is leaving a really sour taste in my mouth. Not to mention the latest revelations about working conditions at Konami.
The worst thing about this is that the Metal Gear Solid franchise is KONAMI's property, even if this was the last MGS for Kojima, we probably won't see another MGS from his team.
So with the release date a week away, anybody else pretty hyped to finally play it? I've started to avoid a lot of social media because spoilers are apparently pretty rampant right now, and the last thing I want is for something to be spoiled for me in this game.
Also, as much as I'd like to play it on PS4, I haven't been able to get one yet, so I'll be playing it on PS3. But from what I've seen, it's not that much of a downgrade at all.
Pre-ordered it for PC. Didn't think I cared about MGS anymore, but i'm pretty hyped about it. It seems more focused on gameplay this time which is what I've always wanted. Also avoiding any articles/reviews.
This trailer is such a fitting conclusion to this whole Konami debacle.
Couldn't agree more. It makes me sad to think if Konami made more Metal Gear games without Kojima. I sure hope they don't, but if there's $$$ to be made..
But really, I can't think of another game series that is tied so closely to it's creator.

Borrow the consoles and the games.
Emulators (ALL the games except MGS4)
YouTube game play videos.
are those two kid are liquid and solid?
That said, I really am not a fan of Skullface's voice. His Japanese VA has so much more character.

Gamescom 2015 trailer has arrived!!
This is the first thing that came to my mind. This trailer just feels so out of place. I guess it really is the end of an era.

"Here is MGSV TPP's Gamescom 2015 Mother Base gameplay video! It's like an expansive game of its own, truly incredible" from yongyea.
I'm really worried about the multiplayer too, i'm surprised it's still coming at all.
It could be any game, with the way it was cut.

YES YES YES
Last kojima trailer.
Hopefully i'll have money to buy it on PC at launch :<
