But when it comes to business side - popularity shoes, what the people want (to buy or to have).
In my opinion the majority of ppl buying items don't vote on theme anyway, so popularity isn't so reliable. Most of DOTA2 players don't even know about store-workshop connections. Popularity and votes would matter only when system was based on something like kickstarter. Right now most voted items are ~10k upvotes, which is nothing compared to number of DOTA2 players which is counted in millions. Although I don't know, Valve probably has a system that tracks the % of ppl that upvoted and than bought that specific item.
Popularity is only good to draw attention, which is probably not necessary anyway. There are so many sets on the first few pages that still haven't made it into the game after several months, and so many items that didn't even see 150 votes (necessary for 5 stars i think) made it into the game. Just make something that Valve will accept and people will find interesting enough to get.
I don't know Razor's slots well but it would be better if you kept large shoulder pieces because he looks like a woman without them (not your fault, it's the model).

I have the student version of Maya, and I assume I can't use that if the item actually gets selected right? Do all the people making it have an official version of Maya?
Also if anyone has any tutorial on how to make some thing that could be added to the workshop I would love to see it. I'd love to add something eventually but just don't really know how to set it all up when its all in a folder and what kind of file it should be and / or how to submit.

Starting up some work on an idea I had for a Batrider mount. Might be a bit too outlandish, but I'm trying to at least keep the color hierarchy accurate. The fly's anatomy isn't 100% accurate to nature, but I think it looks cool, taking some gas mask inspiration for the head. I'll put up some of my basic geometry soon!

I am a bit skeptic about this downvoting. Even if they have unique accounts, they would not know if they were reported by author, random user, or just found by forum administrator. Those comments are added most likely by some kind of bot and I bet they don't even bother about downvoting.
Also there is no possibility to know if your message was removed by moderator or by author... or is it?
Anyway comments should be limited only to users with at least one bought game and more than a month membership on steam.
I notepadded the names of the scam linkers, and each time i get 5-10 chain downvotes, i checked their status (they are not that many). One of them got banned and i dl/reported him earlier! Now you said it i have to try it again to confirm the observation.

This guide by Lennyagony is great, because it takes you from start to finish on making a dota 2 item. He uses Max, but you can do the same things with Maya, you may just have to figure out the equivalent (I used Maya and followed this tute).

I almost finished my Brewmaster set, going to rework the texture of the offhand weapon model. The red color is a bit too dark and the dragon scales don't come out that good. Here's the progress so far!

Where are the texture locations or UV's stored? I want to adjust my texture so it fits like on Blender. I've unwrapped, made a texture with the unwrap, placed it in blender, now how do apply the coordinates when i put the texture in game?

about the harsh criticisms, could be a lot of factor, sometimes is just that first game made a bad comment and the rest followed

I think that part came from Valve if I remember correctly, especially since it has particle effects.
