Lina is a popular hero and the sets are well-made? How many items they've made previously shouldn't affect too much unless they have a huge number of followers.
I still haven't figured out exactly how the most popular tab sorts items, but I do know a lot of it is based on how rapidly it's "rising." If you get 30 upvotes out of 50 viewers and no downvotes in the first couple hours I'm pretty sure you're guaranteed to shoot past items that have 100 upvotes and 10 downvotes out of 500 viewers over 3-4 days.
Valve has picked stuff from the top, and also ignored stuff from the top and picked things that only made it to page 2. Just focus on making as many quality items as you can with a quality presentation.
There are two new similar workshop contributors who submitted Lina set and teleported to 1st page; how did they manage to go so high at first try and day one without any kind of promotion or reputation (30-10 followers)?! This is so absurd and unbalanced!
I believe the maker of the high ranking Lina set has done so using the Chinese client as you can see from the video. While I don't believe that on the "technical side" that the hair piece is in the 3000+ vote category as it currently is but there is possibly a huge Chinese community behind its upvoting. Chinese Polycount perhaps?
@hopgood Yea I have to agree with you, it has the mad scientist look, I like it tough. @Hawt Koffee Have you considered making a mad scientist hair to complement it?
@marul Did valve made the customized pose of your juggernaut set or it was your idea?
Sorry for my bad english guys
Cheers
Awesome drow set, I think it's your best set yet. I've actually been following your workshop for awhile, been wondering why so few of your items have been selected because a lot of them are very good.
You might want to try sprucing up your preview images for each item a bit more to get more clicks. More clicks = more upvotes.
sadies: hah.thx man.lookforward your set.
beetrootChan : hum,i think the hairpin is more important than haircut .because you can't find out what is different in game view.actually there are two different haircut i have do. one with braid one without.but finally i have choice this.thx you for pointed this out.
@ benhenry I don't think those dangly bits in front of his eyes are doing it any favors. I dunno bout the stripe of blue On the neck either..seems Too convenient A pattern...the colors in general seem to evenly distributes to be any kind of natural...maybe shifting the hue a bit here or there would help. Or letting some blue into the back half. Maybe a nice mottled mixture. I'd get some horse coloration ref - specifically "paints"

I have looked at Vladimir the Implyers Items and tried to find a pattern. I believe making multiple versions is a good way to have the items accepted. I could see how valve accepted items from different sets to form one they wanted. So perhaps if we make many versions with different influences then the most "Valvy" may be accepted.

There is no pattern. One day it's the top sets, the other day it's the stuff from months ago (which we need implemented more, all those Jug pants just lying around, when will you guys get in the game!)

Yeah the Chinese Lina set's amount of unique viewers within 24 hours was crazy. We're definitely missing out on a huge portion of the community just by being English speakers.
Anyone want to be my Russian and Chinese PR representative?
Here's an update to an old set. I created a new shoulder slot alternate and added alpha to the wings.
I'm having a small problem with weight painting in Maya 2012. I can't see the color feedback of the weights. I'm in "default quality rendering" and "use default material" is off. I think it might be the faceless void rig. Anyone know how i can fix this?
It could be. We've already had a precedent of Ruskies inflating the votes, good thing common sense won in that one
Now you've said it, i remember, does the dota 2 workshop have rating mercs like in TF2?
Users paid in hats using their own armies to upvotes and downvotes items.
hey guys im almost done with this thing.what do you think about it?
You need to add some fiery sculpt on the gold bands on the back.
Once you finished your item wait a couple of days, the WS is actually stormy in the ratings.
@vertical:
Looks cool, but the cloth at the bottom is looking too undefined. I'd suggest getting some more contrast in there and turning down the saturation/lightness quite a bit so it's not overpowering the other parts.
@ vertical:
I'm with spud - the saturation on that green is eye-bleeding high - and you could really control those folds more the cloth isn't really falling in a realistic it looks painted on
Okay I see what you guys mean. I need more darkness, am I right?
@reverendK
I agree, I think the folds would look better if there is less light. Also to note I work with 2048x2048 px maps, the folds' detail would almost disappear in that regard.
I also have a problem when I import my cape, when I shift between low res and high res, I think it's the low res that makes black triangles when viewing the item in-game. Anyone had similar issues?
Agree with vlad on that. You could try to color it with a gradient or something, from the color of your mount to the color of the neckhair/mane so there is not such a harsh edge between the colors.
The rest looks great!
too fast Zalakzik! you hurt me deep inside.
question: is that glowing pink effect supposed to be up on his back? it's down at his origin or something in your workshop shots.
Mine's gonna take another week. ..stupid work getting in the way of my dota funs.

This man speaks the truth. :P
Maybe that's part of their plan, if they keep us on our toes and never let us get comfortable we'll work harder

Time to try out new AM styles i believe.
Keep in mind that it matches his theme and is pretty lore firendly

Love this, definitely a big improvement over the knight helmet you were concepting up before. Still has that very mad scientist feel to it
I really like the hood. Goodwork.
So true. What in the world could explain why Valve keeps accepting items like this into the game: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=132401425&searchtext=
Aghanim's Scepter

I suggest dropping the balls and making them painted on the texture. This will save you a lot of polys.

How so, it appears they haven't even done the workshop video series in 6 motnhs.

fix: Turn off bind poses!
I'm sorry to point this out, but actually in Concept Art of Abaddon, he rides an eagle-horse thing. Maybe you should wait for abaddon to released

*It's a very great work though.
This is just the shoulders.
I'll just slip this down here:
Sculpt: Front-side view
Sculpt: Back-side view
Sculpt and Color: Front-side view

Feedback will be most welcome.

Thx a lot Bronto!
@Vertical: Maybe post pics together with the character, it will give a better idea of how the item will look on it.
@BenHenry: I like the model, but I would lose or tone down the blue colors a bit
Did a quick paintover what the end result should look like, not completely sure about the color sheme but those can be changed..
Sorry wrong name

Good job mate, but the hair coming out of his neck that comes with the default armor is looking out of place.
The rest looks great!
Oh, I must have been looking at the wrong youtube playlist or something. Good to know they do still do it.
Now I'm sort of torn with what color these blades will be. Right now I have a self-ilium mask on the waves and center.
I'm partial to A since it was my original concept but I'm afraid that it might be straying too far from BS's color scheme.
CRITS? SUGGESTIONS?
Thanks,
