When ever i try to add a generator to my layers, it bugs out and the material becomes black and white with really strange inverted normals (texture). does anyone know why this is happening? Here are some screenshots Simple setup; two fill layers, top one is cast iron bottom one is rust Add metal edge wear for testing…
Hi Guys. I've been developing plug-in for procedural 3D Terrains, Trees and Grass generation for a couple of years now. Hope You like it. Here is a youtube demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMZgxDl-WKo
I stumbled upon this today - a standalone normal map generator for the mac. Works a treat, it's very similar to the Nvidia filter, though it's obviously not embedded into Photoshop, so you lose the nice layering ability tht nvidia gives you. http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/8300945231/m/726000575831/p/2
Hey guys, I'm trying to get a general idea of when to use designer vs painter. It seems like they can both do similar things aside from the obvious substance creation. I guess what I'm really trying to ask is, what properties does a mesh need to have that you would choose designer over painter and vice versa. For instance,…
I have a procedurally generated landscape system for a strategy game I'm working on and would like some critique on how I can make it look more accurate and realistic. The set up consists of tiled 2d sprite textures that exist within a 3d environment. The mountains pop up out of the ground plane and cast shadows on to it.…

For now it looks like that: here are some exampeles what can be achived It's made fully in substance designer and base mesh is basic sphere with default uv's (apple…
Hi everyone! I made a tileable pattern generator with maxscript which can be used to create a base for creating textures. The script will soon be available on Gumroad! Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comment section below, cheers! :awesome: http://vimeo.com/181299789…
Does anyone know the average texture size for cube maps(per face) in current generation console games??? ie. I hear rumblings of 512 sq. each face. edit: I meant for Skyboxes....
what types of ( more or less obscure ) activities do you engage in to generate ideas ? eg : drawing upside down drawing with your opposite hand drawing in the dark exercises like : http://weirdblog.wordpress.com/2007/03/01/creative-squiggle-exercise-stimulates-your-imagination/ and certain practices in books such as :…
does anyone know if there are any free generic models out there that are good for prototyping a game? I don't care as much about textures, but having a bipedal character with a basic walk animation would be great. I was hoping to use a model like this to prototype a couple ideas i have for games in unity3d, xna, or UDK. so…
