Small, startup VR studio looking to hire a freelance, 3D artist to create and finalize a character for real-time end-use. Concept and reference exists, although full ortho does not. You would be working from an early-stage, WIP sculpt that we would provide. Character is stylized and is hard surface + rock based (no soft,…
So this is probably semi-advanced. I'm working on a sci-fi piece but I can't seem to get the detail I want on a curved surface without distorting the actual surface. Example: I want to cut out a portion of a conical cylinder and extrude it inwards but when I do that it starts to change the shape of the cone when i…
Yeah UV seams are a common problem with displacement systems. One solution would be to model the low-resolution surface to include a lip, keeping the UVs continuous from the top to the underside of the lip. Then without a UV seam, there should be no displacement cracks.
Hi I have tried all possible solutions I know of but I can't get rid of that annoying pinching effect . The surface is a varying curved one , Its a wing of a airvehicle and I want to have a clean cut of a rectangular shape on that curved surface wing, but no matters how I try to arrange vertices , turbosmooth always makes…
Hi! That's more about designing rarther than technical talk. How do you manage to detail hard surface models to achieve the level when it has a sense? You have some alphas for Zbrush etc. but I don't think that solves the problem, because you have to know what you're doing. I watched some gameplays of Marvel's Guardian of…
I know about detaching faces, or changing the smoothing angle (in maya) but ive tried detaching the faces when baking normal maps in modo as a test, changing the smoothing angles, no matter what i still get wrong restults when baking normal maps. in maya, i can just change the normal angle and have no problem. ive looked…
An alpha is used to mask something, sometimes a full material. The hard-surface stamp are individual normal map that can also be stamped on your mesh, often providing more information. You can imagine combining both : an alpha that will mask the hard surface when painting on your mesh. We separated them because it makes…
I'm working on a mesh with several pieces that doesn't seem to import correctly. I've had no trouble with numerous other meshes along the way and haven't adjusted my export settings at all. The meshes naturally require their original surface normals to display correctly, yet I'm unable to bring the full mesh in without…
Hi. Maybe this is a little weird asking. Im having a hard time being creative with hard surface sci fi stuff that doesent exist. I love hard surface moddeling and i love sci fi stuff. I can have a cool general idea of a weapon, a mini scene or a vehicle, but i cant figure out how i will have the details, joints etc look…
Hi everyone, I m looking at different techniques to be able to create lines and surfaces following terrains. Please take a quick look at the video I created using Google Earth, the idea is to be able to do exactly the same thing.https://vimeo.com/346339209 Select between 2 buttons to create lines or surface, "unlimited…
