Light mapping with pixel art could yield some interesting results. It's been years and years since I've done any light baking. I'm currently using a trial version of maya 2018, and I couldn't find Bake Sets anywhere, so I tried baking through the Hypershade using "convert to file texture" in the edit menu. after fixing…
if your using max lonewolf try this. Add a skylight casting shadows, set its intensity to about 0.8 and make it the colour of your sky. Add a target directional light casting shadows, set its intensity to around 0.5 and up the res on the shadow map. Turn the shadow density down to around .9 and take the shadow colour away…
Thanks Ruz! This is very helpful! Feedback is always welcome! I've been trying to figure out a solution to make the hair more unkempt without altering the volume. The challenge I'm having is the hair cards clipping which causes shading artifacts. I will add a randomised twist to the upper layers and see if that helps, for…
Hi, I've made a post at the autodesk forums as well but maybe somebody here has some experience too: im using maya 2018 problem is after adding blendshape nodes (created from shape editor) to an animation layer, whenever I select the associated mesh or animation layer I have a freeze up of several minutes. Same on…
(reposting from game-artist) Hey everyone, Upon importing an .ase static mesh into UDK, I'm getting the following message: Trying to troubleshoot the issue, I found this thread over at UDN: Generated/Imported vertex count ratio message - Epic Games Forums Post #7 lists potential causes as: 1. UVs - no UV map at all, or as…
Working in Maya LT 2018 (no wrap deformer, no Node editor) I've got a game character that must switch outfits and heads. Rather than have a separate mesh for each head attached to a body, I thought I might save some memory by rigging the "floating" head so match the body without a break in the seam. The only way that I…

It took me 3 months working in the evening after my full time job and at this point i can certainly say that i learned a lot in every department from modeling to texturing and rendering, a great experience. Some refinements! 99% of the way there I think. Instead of 'floating' plating patterns on a solid background, I've given the impression of plates fitting together to form the weapon. I came up with a few names and numbers. '058' - reference to one of my favourite sci-fi shows in the mid 90s: 'the 58th' from Space above and…
