Let's say I'm modelling a shoe. The shoe has holes where the shoelaces go through. I have a choice between modelling the holes in, or just painting the alpha transparency of the holes right? What is the difference and which method is preferable?

im new to ToolBag, im working withe this model and her eyelashes came with this map. Where do i add the map on the right to make her lashes appear correctly. Do i even have the right map?
Is there a way to bake cavity maps in marmoset? I've read somewhere you can get a cavity map with the ambient occlusion baker with the right settings, as its the same thing essentially, but I can't figure out the right settings.
So this goes out for everyone. How does one go around and figuring out the right color palette? For eg. you're building a scene and you want everything to acctually blend in well together? Any tips?
That test what actually kinda, acurate may be the appropriate word? My left eye has an astigmatism, while my right is near perfect. My left eye sees warmer than my right, and to my knowledge it doesn't really affect me since my left eye's vision isn't as strong as my right, so my vision is mostly based in my right.

i think that the shapes and proportions are pretty good but its largely let down by the surfacing. Everything has a kind of plastic feeling to it regardless of the material it is (e.g. leather versus skin versus fur versus fabric) agree with ashervisialis take as well, presentation is worth a lot.
