Nah I didn't create a high polygon mesh for it, I just created the normal from a heightmap as you said. Ok I will go back and create a high poly mesh and bake down some details for it..I guess.
Easiest way to create a textured finish like your concept is to... Create a texture map. you could probably create a kind of textured surface like that with procedural maps, but it won't end up as good, and will be more hassle than it's worth.
Ok im an idiot, there is literally a mask by alpha button, However: When i hit the create alpha button it doesnt seem to be creating an alpha map that mimics my mask... it creates an alpha that appears to be just a few miniscule dots
Handplane repeatedly fails to create a tangent space normal map from an object space normal map created in Zbrush. The created file is correctly blue mostly in parts at the "beaches" of the UV island, but "inland" it mostly remains object space. :-/ ???
When you created the racetrack with a spline you can enable the 3d display mode and set it to a rectangular shape. Then turn on the "generate mapping coordinates" checkbox. The created UVs will create a good base and you wont have to adjust it much.
