I'm trying to plan out how I'm gonna design levels in a game I'm working on. I'm currently using small terrain chunks bridged together by mesh sections. Each terrain chunk is basically a level which contains various challenges, encounters, puzzles, etc. Some of the puzzles include navigation through dark areas where you…
I have a lamp with a lampshade in my scene. The lampshade has an emissive texture applied, and Im using a bit of the emissive to cast a bit of light around the lamp. My issue is, if I put a pointlight in the lamp, the light gets blocked by the lampshade mesh. If I place the pointlight outside of the lamp, the shadows are…
I am not very experienced or knowledgeable when it comes lighting in 3dsMax. Recently however I am becoming more interested in creating 2D textures by baking geometry inside of Max rather than using photo sources. When trying to bake a blend map of 3D geometry onto a 2D plane I came across the following issue: I used one…
I'm looking to finish up a portfolio piece and I'm trying to make a Marmoset Viewer Export. I seem to be having 2 issues. 1. The Marmoset Viewer file/render comes out as very shiny. 2. The resulting file/render seems to lack most of the look of the lighting I've set up in Marmoset. I got a warning that Omni lights would…
Having used Unity extensively for baked lighting for standalone VR and mobile games, I wanted to push Unreal light baking further for AEC / VR use but for PC specs. Goal was also to get as much clean result as possible without 10 hour wait and within 2-4 lightmaps. (Bake times 45mins - 1 hour) All lights are set to Static.…
Is there a way to simulate(create),inside 3dsmax, those laser beams? those rays of light emitted from the plasma cutter(or line gun). i apologize if my question sounds a bit off topic or silly and i know that the "subject"(the result) from my attach is a result of a special graphic engine developed by a professional team.…
You can't really judge the light intensity by whether or not it looks correct in the viewport until you expose for it. It being white is expected because you're using a much wider range of intensities that need to be accounted for. You can increase max exposure value to something really high like 10,000 or just enabled…
The lighting is too flat, imo. Particularly in the night scenes, there is too much ambient and very few darker areas. Very little variation in color either. Still, educational nonetheless. We don't have people specifically designated at lighting artists, but do have some folks that are much better at it. A lot of time our…
Hello everyone. I am a junior artist and terrible doing lighting. I would like some tips to improve the light in unreal, Maybe different light colors or postprocessing options. Lighting is a very important step as an artist I am looking for feedback to do it right. The more I look to my project the more lost I get. I am…
Hello everyone, Inspired by the Halloween atmosphere, for this project I wanted to try and make a combination of cuteness and spookiness. In addition, throughout these projects I wanted to experiment with different kind of shapes and bodies and I thought it was time to try and make an animal like creature. As the main…
