Here is a sketch I'm working on right now. I hope to model this guy at some point.

I love the silhouette of the the warrior guy in the top left, would love to see a color version of this guy, he seems cool.
The sketch thread imo feels more for casual training stuff or life drawing or idea sketches. Stuff that didn't take that much time, but you still want feedback on.
I like the pallette and atmosphere you're going for. There are a few things that bother me though.
- lack of focal point: You have a few points of interest in your scene, but they are distributed unevenly across the image. Either remove those you don't need or emphasize the one you want to focus on. This will also help you to convey your story better.
Also, move the thing with the red and green light more towards the center, it's taking up a lot of attention for something which doesn't seem to be the main focus of your image (because it's placed all the way to the right).
- Perspective: your vanishing points don't line up. Horizons are at different heights.
- Composition: Overall composition needs work. Try working with a fore, mid and farplane. This will give more depth to your scene. Also, use Golden ratio diagrams to help you find a good composition http://emptyeasel.com/2009/01/20/a-guide-to-the-golden-ratio-aka-golden-section-or-golden-mean-for-artists/

A sketch is just a sketch, it's a piece of raw quality whose creator has no intention of polishing any further. It's not the same thing as a WIP. Although most WIPs passed through the sketch phase once in their lifetime, they became more. That's the difference between them. You can say all WIPs were sketches once, but not all sketches are WIPs. (:

@Highelf Those studies look good; I can see your attention on some subtle color shifts and reflections. That's the way to go in colors, keep rocking!

@fabio brasilien That vintage palette is lovely. I'm not good when it comes to sci-fi designs, so I won't comment on it for it looks simply great for me. The rendering is good too, and that's why I want give you a tip:
Avoid same-intensity highlighted edges on both sides. You're using a fairly limited value range already, in these cases highlighting the whole outline has the undesired side-effect of flattening the shape. We can see that effect on his helmet/neck and thighs in particular.

It's not a WIP anymore, it was finished some time ago, yet this contribution might interest some people there who like to gather knowledge from other artists' processeseven if it's the "don'ts". I hope it's helpful. I became lazy and I've not created a timelapse in ages, tsc tsc.
I have that tendency of focusing only in the parts that are fun and getting lazy when it comes to the most uncomfortable ones. I've found some balance in following that process: Working on the key pointsthe ones that sell the workuntil they get promising, then elect the worst part of the piece and work on that until any more work makes it get worse instead of better. Then move to the next worst part, and the next, until the piece is finished. I try to follow that logic... sometimes. Mostly commissions, hah!
On the process itself I can say I start with something in mind, some colors and design options, and I go experimenting along the way. I do a half assed sketch, put it in multiply and lay the base colors underneath. I often render the whole body naked before moving ahead because I'm simply terrible in anatomy. I like to do a more serious cloth design straight on colors, it's less confusing than my dirty sketches. I don't wait much time to merge everything and work mostly on a single layer (excluding the background). I had that bad habit of working in 2892397283 layers in the past for fear of messing something, solved it nowadays by duplicating only my current working layer.

More GoT portraits incoming
It's a bit hard to explain what I did here, because most of the time I kind of go with the flow and try not to think too hard. I mainly focus on getting volumes and color right.
I started from ref but wanted to do something completely different concerning colors. What was important to me was to nail his expression, I wanted to potrait Tyrion at his most vulnerable and have the colors amplify that emotion.
Vielmond, your character looks great! But there's something about the face that's bothering me... perhaps it's too flat? Anyway, great stuff!
