Erik: Thanks for the quick reply, and well, i think of making 1 and 3 together, were the 3 are service and repair droids, while 1 are the more fighting and normal droid. In a robot world, what ya think?
Erik, tbh I don't really know how to approach environment drawings. I'm thinking about the back, mid and foreground while I'm drawing, but basically I'm just been mashing colors together on one and the same layers. What you were talking about, did you mean that I need to work more on having "hazier" bg's and mg's since theyre further away?
For all you doing thumbnails! Remember that they are called thumbnails since they are suposed to be small. Try working zoomed out in a 800x800 px document. Working zoomed out is awesome, not getting hindered by pesky details
frell: Nice!
S_ource: cool, number 4 and 5!
Pumpkinpatch: welcome! Good to see you here!
2 and 4 are really cool! Might wanna show that they are robots by doing some paneling or somehting.
Here is my Day 138 :
kinekun: Well you need to blend the picture more together so that you get a smoother transition. Like this -
I would sugest that you watch Sinix Design vids about environment on youtube. Also there was a great vid that I posted a few pages back from FZDSchool.
Erik: Yeah, I agree, my robots look very... round and smooth. You mean paneling as in metal plating positioning?
I did this one this morning around 6 am before school.
Wanted him to look like a scavenger, picking up stuff as he goes but time ran out and had to leave!
I think my biggest disadvantage is not to know how to work with black and white in photoshop. Paint tool Sai did that for me.
aiconx: I like his design, reminds me of a kitchen robot. Make awesome pancakes.
Aiconx: 3 and or 1
Source: 3 and 5
Pumpkin: 1 and 4 :poly121:
Just my opinion on it.
And Erik, i really love that hat on that thing, maybe you could do some kind of solar panels on top or something?
EDIT: I updated the picture, had some issues on it, and I also added the thumbnails. So Erik, what is up now? Make an painting were I put the concept together in a suiting world?
Started on refining the robot.
Aiconx like that you get alot of character into your drawing. And also just so you know you need to have a side propeller in reality to stabilize, otherwise it would just spin out of controll. And i like number 3 the most.
Aleon i really like number 2 also like 3.
Erik: Tried your advice and worked on grayscale a bit more, turned out much better. I like the thumbnail's legs much more, should have kept the dislocated angle of it, would have made it more wicked.
Erik: Thanks! I really understand what you mean now, the gradual changes really added to the depth. I took a reference photo and did this
frell: That brush you talked about in your tutorial is really nice! It seems much more pencil-ish than my other brushes and is something I've missed sorely. Thanks mate!
NA: Next week will also be a character concept, but it will be quite different, wink* wink* ^______________^
But there is still a few days left on this week, why dont you play around with it? Do some more robots and some more thumbs or try putting them in a setting!
Filling a page with small siluette thumbnails is great practice and also really fun! And it wont take much of your time!
Made two this morning and put a limit on myself for 30 minutes and doodled the thumbnails as quickly as possible (as instructed, lol), I was going to do all four but my hand just seized up and begun hurting so I stopped.
1: I like the thumbnail better, the arch to the back is cooler. The legs look a bit better in the finished doodle but the could also have been bent.
2: I forgot it's hands... but I guess it could beat someone up with it's stumps if it wants too!
Nr 1 has a really cool design! Liking that pose but yeah, the back and the legs look cooler in the thumb. Think you can show of more technical stuff on it, would be nice to see the joints between the lower and upper arms. And maybe the body could be sliced upp in segments so it could bend the body?
Nr 2 has a really cool material defenition, I also like that it is sliced upp more, more panels and stuff that makes it look more robotic!
Aicon: I tried using my other hand after you said so, I think my left hand is stuck in my weeabo days. 5 years ago....
Used a ref from then too! HA
guess which one is which?
So here is my AI concept in a setting, it is a real quick one, that i will finish before the week ends. But I put it all together now and made a concept of these two robot designs living on some sort of scrap/swamp planet.Just tried to get the mood down, but above you have the first sketch up!
And everyone seems to be doing great! Keep it up guys! (To much to comment right now, tired!) But hey, it looks awesome! =D
But Erik, damn i am interested in next week xD!
Aleon: Do one with your non-dominant hand then! (then you will amaze us all with being Ambidextrous(?)) Nitewalker: I like the musclestudy, looks nice Kinekun: That means that you have to produce twice as much! Nuclear: I am looking forward to the finished concept of this! Looks like one of the larger robots are petting one another! XD
Source: awesome metal texture there!
Aleon: looking good there, nice layout
Kinekun: Nice shapes on the cliff! I think you could make it pop more by picking more colours that are different for the objects themselves. Like some reds in the cliff or something
NA: cool to put it all in a picture, like the whole swam/scrap thing
Nice colours there pumpkin!
The metal texture is from photos. . Did feel like trying to make an enviornment for the robot. And did also clean it up a bit with smother shading. (I need to start make spedpainting/concept and not try to render it out so much:poly122:)

And Erik: Go 1 or 5, preferably 1
Erik I like 1 and 4 best out of yours, 5 also shows promise

aiconx - Thanks man! 1 and 3 are cool!
NA: Sounds like a cool id
Aiconx: i really like number 3, but 1 and 5 are good as well.

I am not so good with Photoshop and quickdesign, this might be good practice.
They are supposed to be service bots.
Will probably only do one but you can still rate it in order. Might render it out later today.
Erik: 1,5,4
NA: 1,2,3
aiconx: 3,4,6
Pumpkinpatch 5,1,4

welcome pumpkin! Like 1 and 3

like the crazy hat there erik!
I went with a kind of little signal bot that has rotating arms and is generally mascoty and cute. Some thoughts on it

Day something - Just a few robots. Didn't have time for much.

Tomorrow, robots and thumbnails!
Now I just need to up my game too ;D
PumpkinPatch: Think you need to practice more on hard surfaces, make them less organic
You have a lot of cool joint details already, think you just need to refine it, show it off more.
Tip to all:
Skeletons and bugs are cool to look at when designing robots.
Go ahead and add some wires, cogs, hard surfaces or whatever floats your boat. How does it bend its arms? how does the joints in its legs work?
But there is still a few days left on this week, why dont you play around with it? Do some more robots and some more thumbs or try putting them in a setting!

Good good, keep em comming!
except if your hand hurts
Looking good everyone!
So tired today, put some quick colour on the bot.
about the hand pain, that is why I practice with my left hand
Used a ref from then too! HA
guess which one is which?
Still preparing for my exams, not much time... Just a 20 min sketchy. I'm not sure what day I'm at now...
Took me 15 mins to do this. I hope these studies pay off soon.
Was gonna make so much today! Just managed this and some random studies, haha. Tomorrow's another day...
This one based on a photograph as well

For today's leftie, a racoon fox thing
p.s. Pumpkinpatch, you're so right! Really need to get my speed up while drawing!
p.s.s. Aicon, seems like good adice. The cliff is kinda flat. Oh well, always learning!
kinekun: nr 6, 7, 5 :P
aiconx: Cool stuff! An Android! I like!
Pumpkinpatch: Coolio! Liking that snake thingey! Looks very metalic!
Nitewalker: Welcome dude! Nice stuff!
NA: Awesome colors! Cool composition!
Cant do nr 2 today since its in school, but here is an android instead.
Day 140! -
Kinekun: 1,9,2
Day 141, Since my recording program crapped out on me there wont be any speedpaint vid for this, makes me sad
Daily something, something. Not gonna keep track of that anymore, always forget what number I am at, haha
Looking good everyone!
